mac 10 on cs, pure classic, everyone crys when they get done by that, because they can't do the whole, omg awp whore, or call you a camping slutfuck, cos its easier to use a mac on the move. Plus long range headshots are stupidly funny.

As for the sniper argument, yes it does take a degree of skill, and its useful if you're eating, or you've got something better to do, cos its just plain boring, only time i ever enjoy killing people with a sniper is when you're running round a corner, and smack someone at point blank range. when i sit waiting for people, i might as well be playing darts or something, it just makes the game to much point click, as apposed to, point, click, compensate for recoil, manouevre... like i said, just feels like theres more to the other guns than point, click, hide, point, click, hide... drones on really

I prefer the medium to long range rifles in games, they usually sport lower rates of fire (often semi-automatic), the Garand being a prime example in almost any game it appears in.

They're usually a mix between an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, I don't like the claustrophobic combat that most assault rifles require, but I also don't like sitting back with a sniper rifle, I prefer somewhere in between, with a weapon that can come along. Not really sure why I like these weapons, I guess because they make me feel safest and they often have great sounds effects.

Examples of this would be the G3 in Call of Duty 4, and the Garand in Battlefield 1942. Sadly they're not in all games, since they're not a staple weapon like the Shotgun or the Sniper Rifle.

The grenade launcher attatchement on any smg such as the ones in COD4 because it is very satisfying to use it on that guy who has been ruling a map with seemingly instant headshots, even if you have the drop on him. The satisfaction comes when he types something like "lame ass noobtuber" to you in chat and you get to think smugly to yourself, "yes I am wanker, but you are still dead"

anything that can staple a guy to the wall/floor/cieling/other guy
things like the stake gun from painkiller and of course the penetrator from fear
fun thing with the penetrator is you can staple someone to the wall without killing him thus he gets all angry trying to atack you but he cant get his gun hand off the wall

In order:

| semi-automatic pistol; simple, portable and reliable.
| SMG (like an UMP45 or a MP5SD, not machine pistols like Uzi or MAC-10); accurate, burst-fire, relatively silent
| Combat shotgun; large damage, easy to hit, flexible with right ammunition

A single compact assault rifle with a shotgun under the barrel will do in many games, but I don't want to have to use the greater range. Close, narrow and limited ammo, that's how I like FPS. Long range sniper battles don't do much for me, I'd rather do beyond-visual-range combat in a vehicle.

Armoured targets usually give me problems in most (realistic) games due to my preferences ....

EDIT: But if there's a believable plasma weapon, everything else is relegated to relative ignomy.

He knows that already. It's one of the reasons he enjoys it so much. Pay attention in future.

I like pistols. I'm something of a hoarder, so I never feel right using a more powerful rifle or shotgun unless I've drained my handgun.

Pistols, and shotguns. Headshots with either are immensely satisfying, and just as deadly as with a sniper rifle, but you actually have to get near your opponent. I hate sniper rifles because they enable camping in multiplayer, and we all know campers suck.

I loved using the machine gun in Day of Defeat for that. Pissed the owner of my local LAN centre right off.

"It must take a lot of wit and skill to be able to camp there all the time!"
"Only as much as it does to keep coming down the same route towards me."

It depends on the game- Ill talk about the two I'm playing most right now.

In COD:4, I like to start most matches off with a bang- either a Grenade launcher or RPG. Luckily both of these weapons are available in a format that allows you to carry a really effective medium-long range assault rifle as well. Even if I dont get any kills, the explosions and dust thrown out by these weapons are usually enough to slow the enemy and keep them from rushing, which allows me time to set up with the rifle and lay down some fire, especially in corridors.

In TF2, it depends heavily on the map. In a CTF situation, I usually go scout- meaning I use the shotgun like crazy along with the bat. Up close and personal. But my best weapons are my legs- That heavy or soldier is useless as soon as I double jump around the nearest corner.

On capture maps, Ill usually start as a spy (note the avatar :-D)- again, up close and personal. The knife is my choice there.

Overall, in any game, I'm a huge fan of pistols. I cannot tell you how many times my ass has been saved by a quick tap of the switch weapon button after I empty my clip. Applied to COD:4, they're really most useful when using the SMG's, since it's so easy to burn through a clip with one of those (especially the scorpion!). All of them are good, but I'm partial to the colt and the Deagle (of course). You usually have to go for broke with it to get the kill, and you usually take a hit or two before the opponent goes down, but if you're good, you can usually pull it off. I also use pistols as a primary weapon when I snipe. If I'm moving from place to place, the silenced colt is my best friend.

The shooter that I've spent the most time in overall would have to be Day of Defeat, and thats where my love of pistols as both a life-saving last ditch effort and a handy friend when your primary isnt ideal for whatever terrain you're traversing was born. That game treated pistols right. There's a lot of recoil, the sights aren't good enough, and accuracy rapidly degrades at longer distances(though they're really deadly and accurate up to about 30 feet). Juts like real life.

It was always a comfort to know that I had nine second chances just a flick of the "Q" key away.

Screw you guys!

RPGs all the time, every time.

Because I can shoot down helicopters with them in BF2.

I mean, you might have 'leet sniping skills' and the bunny hopping abilities of a cat with a jetpack; but I have a fucking rocket.

SMG's as long as they "feel" right, like they do in RS3: Vegas.

But for the weapons I love the most, the weapons that I'll keep losing even if I'm getting pwn3d, I'd have to go for the Flamethrower. Or anything that shoots fire and leaves a charred corpse.

SMGs shoot like staplers strapped to flapping dildos anywhere but in FPS games; RS3 almost gets it right.

I'll go with a magnum, for the manly factor.

The bow and arrow (or possibly crossbow). I like the challege provided by the slow "reload" and need to predict the arrows trajectory, not to mention the tactile feel and stealthy silence.
That was original. Anyway thanks for your replies, have had a great time reading them all.

i've got to say shotguns are fun, it seems sometimes though, they're underpowered or over-powered, rarely just right. I realise in saying that I should really have a background knowledge of shotguns but still... seeing someone get blown a mile away by a spas 12 when the person using it was a mile away to begin with is quite confusing to see.

I had a random thought while going through this thread too... Duke Nukem 3D. I don't ever remember it having a multiplayer, I've not played it in years afterall, but I just like to think those trip lasers and pipebombs would be a very fun couple of weapons to use on a deathmatch map.

I don't know anything about weapons but the Raging Bull in Rainbow Six:Vegas is a hilarious weapon. The sound it makes is seemingly way over the top but you'll walk into a room and someone will shoot you in the head with one... you don't care because you're laughing at the way you got killed at point blank range with a beastly gun and that's the last thing you heard.

Good stuff
