Just skip to 3:10. The entire body language of those 'actors' scream ''yup we've really hit rock bottom here.'' You'd probably see happier faces on people who tried to make it big in Hollywood then ended on the set of Ass Invaders #37 :p
They look like it's 8:30, and the Resident Evil parody porno they're contractually obligated to make in addition to the trailer starts filming at 8:45.

They could've taken a few cues from Until Dawn. But no, let's just go for indie horror. Because why infuse some character or camp in horror games anymore? That would require effort, I suppose.
Ehmm..the camp in Resident Evil was never intentional. It was a serious attempt at a story scrambled together from half-assed ideas from American B-movies. American culture through the eyes of '90s Japanese videogame developers who never left their island.
Yeah, that's what made the narrative framing deliciously stupid and the characters so much fun. Whether or not it was intentional is besides the point -- it worked, and it made most fans fall in love with the silly soap opera nonsense set against a very atmospheric spook house.

I...

I mean, it could work, but those games are about facing a slow and eroding horror that leads you into a descent into the very depths of the human heart.

Somehow I don't think that a franchise with this:

Can really mesh well with that. But oh well, we'll see.

But how am i supposed to be scared if i'm floating 3ft above the player character, seeing them hobble about like a post-marathon asthmatic with questionable animations? First person is really the best viewpoint to put fear into the player, it doesn't mean that all of them are the same. Maybe trudging through Steam's cheap imitations is not a good idea, hence why i avoid it and am finally happy that Capcom may be putting some actual thought and effort in to their work. Whether original or not, still a vast improvement. But i can see it dividing the fan community more than ever before, change always does.

Actually there is a stand alone expansion for that IP available for pre-order on the PSN store which looks clown/funfair themed. That's all i know so far, sorry! You may already be aware anyhow.

I don't mean to be the odd duck of the thread, but is resident evil really the place for good writing? Don't get me wrong, I love the series, from it's camp b-movie, zombie mansion origin, to it's ironic-camp, midget-napoleon fighting, series rejig, right up to the recent games like 6, that most people hate (for very good reason, to be fair, I just have bad taste). I'm not saying it'd be impossible for the series to delve into straight up modern horror, it'd just be a massive tonal shift for the series that'd take it away from the garbled nonsense I've come to love, and it's attachment to that garbled nonsense can only negatively impact a game put together aiming for serious horror by such a talented writer (for the record, I don't only like trash. Spec Ops: The line is one of my favourite games ever, and had a superb emotional impact on me, but variety is the spice of life, and there's room on my shelf for both Dynasty Warriors and Valiant Hearts).

Series have gone through massive tonal shifts before, Lara Croft went from 'hey, check dese tits, buy my game', to a more serious, reasonably well respected, gritty series with the recent reboot, but that was a reboot. It's not necessarily the same canon. Whereas whatever serious horror and psychological manipulation there is in 7 will immediately follow the game where I fought a guy who mutated into a giant zombie T.Rex.

It's just weird is all, in the same way it'd be hard to take the film Unforgiven seriously if it were a direct sequel to Blazing Saddles. I'd be much more interested if the game were in a new series, or in an IP where serious psychological horror fits more naturally, like if it were co-directed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro, and starred some Walking Dead bloke. Then you'd have my interest.

Yeah, but that's just going to be some on-rails, lightgun type deal.

Hopefully they let him inject a real dose of trauma into Resident Evil.

Because damn was Spec Ops a little traumatizing, and that could REALLY be a jar of steroids for the series.

Oh damn, having checked it, you're right. Well that's disappointing. It's also a VR tech demo, doubly disappointing. :(
