My fear of wasps is gone due to having to deal with them flying around me at school. Being around friends does wonders for phobias...

I HATE deep bodies of water. Any water where you can't see the bottom/what's in it or water as far as the eye can see I just will not go anywhere near it.

I'm a real joy on boats obviously. The vast emptiness just really scares me.
This, particularly with pictures of animals in them. I don't get it at all, I used to love deep sea monsters.

Cockroaches, due to catching one trying to crawl in my ear at age 8.

I can deal with Scarier bugs like nothing but as soon as a cockroach pops up i'm like a 1950's cartoon woman.

Ever since the Tohoku earthquake, I've been extremely uncomfortable in situations where the ground shakes, say like when at a dance club where the floor wobbles with the weight of the patrons on it. I'm getting better with it. I wonder though if there's more to that than just a fear- I used to be uncomfortable on bridges and I've had moments of vertigo outside elevators when I could feel the floor shake with the movement of the car (prior to any earthquake experience). I may just be extremely sensitive to floor vibrations.
Me too...
i thought I was totally ok, but one day in the train I felt panicky from the vibration of the train moving, and realized that i was in fact quite traumatized from the event.
Now I would never want to work in a skyscraper.

i used to have a fear of needles, to be more specific, getting vaccinated against diseases/blood test involving needles in the arm.

That was until I needed a local anaesthetic. in my eyelid.

fear conquered. everything else is a walk in the park compared.

I have two main fears: a fear of man-made heights and a fear of projectiles.

The first is comlpetely nonsensical. I'm perfectly comfortable in a tree or on a cliff. I've stood at the edge of a sandstone cliff with no safety rails and looked down fifty feet to the top of the pine trees below me without worrying. I've also clung to crumbling gniesse over brush infested with Mojave green rattlers (neuro- AND hemotoxin in their venom). Basically, if I'd sneezed I'd have been killed by the fall, the brush impailing me, or the snakes. Didn't even slow me down. But put me on a ladder or high enough to feel the building sway and I start to sweat. I never let it interfere with my work, but I really, really don't like it.

As for projectiles, I think it's fair to be afraid of them after you've dodged bullets and had a few knives thrown at you. Of course, last time someone shot at me I sort of snapped...Apparently I had a k-bar in my hand and was going to cut their throats. I don't remember any of that, or any of the trip to the first aid station (no bullet wounds, just a few cactus spines that needed removed--when you hear the bullets zing by your head you really don't care what's in your way).

I don't know of any fears that stop me in my tracks. I was raised to do my work no matter what. Emotions, including fear, simply are not relevant considerations. If I don't HAVE to be on a ladder I won't be, and I've come up with some creative solutions to get around using them (bleeding has never bothered me), but if a ladder is required I go up the ladder.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I AM afraid of a blade in my wife's hands. I've seen what she can do with one, and I know that dagger she keeps next to the bed (I've been stabbed by it twice, by my sister). When I wake her up suddenly and she pulls the dagger, I stop where I am until she puts it away. Doing otherwise is just suicidal when the person holding the blade can call her shots with a knife (I've seen her do it). I don't consider that to be a fear, so much as common sense. I mean, I'm not afraid she'll do it randomly; it's just that in that situation I had to stop or get killed. It IS rather hard to go to sleep after that, however.

I have a fear of falling. I'm perfectly fine with heights as long as I can't fall from them, but even a foot high drop scares me.

Conquered: Heights (to a certain degree); Large Dogs; The FBI kicking down my door (as a kid I didn't realise the FBI were only in America, not sure why I thought they'd kick down my door though, some film must have done a number on me);

Current: Loneliness; Rejection; Being homeless; Chelsea fucking Tractors... I was nearly wiped out by a Range Rover Sport within the first week of getting my motorcycle. See also: BMWs, Audis and Mercs. All driven by dickheads who don't pay enough attention to the road. If I had a gun I'd shoot out the tires of every one I saw.

Though I have oddly embraced my fear of death. When that adrenaline kicks in, I hit the throttle much harder than I would otherwise and it's just exhilarating. A nice country road with twists and turns flying past makes me feel so unbelievably alive.

I have a phobia that I will break all of my teeth. In a series of horrific ways. I stopped riding a bicycle because whenever I went downhill, I was convinced that I would go flying over the handlebars and smash my teeth on the ground.

They're all very much after that.
I know what you mean. Doesn't help that the other day, someone put up a picture on Facebook of their mate who'd had his front teeth punched out in a bar fight the previous night.

They were just... gone. :I

OT: Dispose alls. Seen too many horror/cringe movies where someone forgets to turn it off, sticks their hand down to retrieve a dropped ring or something and BZZZZZZT!!!!

After my most recent proper relationship (I haven't had the courage to get into anything serious for a year now) I fear that I'm a bad boyfriend.

Being around a mass of drunk people. I wouldn't really call it a fear though, just an apprehension. I'm more than capable of defending myself but all too often people are not themselves when they drink. I've had some very poor experiences that I will go to great lengths to make sure they never happen again. Usually I just avoid situations where lots of people are drinking and that solves the issue.

I suppose I was a bit fearful of flying until I took a from the east coast of the US out to Montana. Now I rather enjoy flying, so I suppose that could be called a conquered fear.

When I was a kid I got attacked by a big dog and ever since then I've been afraid of being near big dogs. My fear has subsided a bit, but when a big dog comes near me I still recoil back in fear.
Hmmm... I once got chased around a children's play park by a poodle (I was probably two or three). I've never liked the things since, but I'm not afraid of them- just overcome by the desire to kick them whenever I see them.

I've always been terrified of heights, although I've got significantly better with that in recent years. Oh yes, and death. But there's not really much I can do about that, so I just tend to ignore it.

Fears that I've conquered.. rollercosters or any big park ride that flings you around at high speeds, planes, heights (see previous two), driving on expressways, being alone.

Currently I'm still scared of roaches and will never get over it (seriously fuck those things), abandoned buildings, walking in cities alone at night, dying in a horrifically brutal way (final destination shit).

Needles (injections), rending veins, and broken/snapped bones.

They still creep me the f*** out and make me cringe.

That is all.

I used to have a moderate form of arachnophobia when I was younger. When I was four, there was an instance where my ?girlfriend? came round my house and, when we found a spider in my bed, I literally shrieked and she had to throw it out for me. And when I was about three, I used to be scared of Churchill the dog from those car insurance adverts, because his eyes were big and I found them scary.

However, I?ve had ophidiophobia for as long as I can remember. I can?t even stand to look at the damn serpents (and it didn?t help when I decided to watch Snakes on a Plane with my brother in a half-assed attempt to conquer my fear ? although it was more because he just had it on in the room and I was too tired to leave). I have slight social fear, especially in crowded situations, due to my generalized anxiety. And while I?m not necessarily scared of the dark, I still sleep with a lamp on because I feel more secure when I don?t feel ?lost?, per se, in the darkness where I can?t see anything and my eyes take a while to adjust to the blackness.

Then there?s failure and death, which both seem to be pretty universal fears.

My biggest fear is heights. As a kid I would be on the swings and look up...seeing that huge sky, I'd eventually picture myself falling, and get so scared I'd wind up looking down at the ground for several minutes to reassure myself I was safe.
That whole face you fears works to a degree. Finally got the courage to go skydiving, and it helped somewhat, now I just feel anxious approaching railing/edges, ass opposed to refusing to go anywhere near them.

Interacting with people
When I was younger I was really shy and had quite a bit of social anxiety. I couldn't talk to strangers, or even make eye contact. But now I'm fine with social situations, and can even give a presentation in front of a crowd (inconceivable back then).

What fears can you deal with and overcome but still bother you?
Apeirophobia: The fear of infinity. mainly two things, how the universe is infinite (or there are infinite universes or infinite nothingness), and how that when I die, im dead forever (or reincarnate forever). It used to just shut me down and almost bring me to tears, but now i've mostly gotten over it.

What fears stop you in your tracks?
Needles, they are proof Satan exists. I can handle pain, blood, and seeing inside at things normally not seen, but a small needle? nope, I become a wussy school-child.

Paranoia
I wasnt sure which one this would fit into... but I have a think about walking barefoot where things might be hidden, such as in grass, sand, or in the water. I stepped on some glass when I was 16 and I'm a little paranoid of the 'hidden dangers' that i may step on

Used to be terrified of spiders, now they dont even phase me.. woke up with a spider on my neck like 3weeks ago and i gingerly picked it off and placed it on the floor, then informed it if it ever woke me again i would destroy it. I did nothing to try and overcome the fear, just outgrew it like my fear of the dark and the fear of looking under my bed at night... irrational fears seem to go away with brain development :D

Still terrified of insects, and heights. Currently conqering my fear of heights. The reason I fear insects was due to a damn beatle on my room when I was 10 years old...
