Star Wars The Old Republic lacks a lot of the simple conveniences of Roleplaying that its clone template WoW had, like speech bubbles for Say and Party chat, the ability to make your character lie down, and the ability to sit in most chairs you find around the game world.

Just... How come that stuff isn't in yet, a full year after release? They -have- useable chairs (just most of the chairs in the game are parts of the static scenery, not usable items) and they used to have functional speech bubbles in the open Beta... so wth, eh?

an items system in Pokemon.

seriously, everyone hates HMs. They ad fuck all to the gameplay but frustration. Just give us a pair of gardening shears rather than Cut, an inflatable boat instead of Surf, etc.

In FIFA specifically: The freaking creation centre on PC is broken and I'm amazed they haven't fixed it yet. MAYBE they should just implement creation stuff IN THE ACTUAL GAME? Also, the lack of female leagues. People have been asking for that for years, and they keep saying they're going to do it, but they don't.

In other games: First Person games where you can see your body. It's been done in a few games, but most just go for the floating camera style of thing, and it's really not even that hard to do, especially if it's a game like Skyrim, where there are already 3rd person models.

An inventory that cares both about size and weight. Systems exist that care about an object's size (ie, RE4) and its weight (Elder Scrolls) but not both. Why not implement a system where each object has both a size and a weight quality. You can carry objects until your size limit is reached, and then you receive bonuses/penalties for being under/over your weight limit.

If memory serves Hidden and Dangerous 2 had that, with the added complication of seperating your inventory in two: pouches for easy access ie. ammo and grenades for the next fight, and your backpack for everything else. Had to stop and use the full inventory screen to access the backpack, problematic when under fire and trying to remember where you stashed your spare bazooka shell.

So this got me thinking:
How in the hell haven't any of the sport games implemented a way to change your uniform during the match? At a glance, you could not tell the two teams apart and as anyone who plays soccer knows, all it takes is a second for your opportunity to close.
I may be wrong, but most FIFA games allow you to choose your uniform before the match.

As for other games, you realize how awesome and simple feature is once someone actually implements it. For example, it blew my mind when first Torchlight allowed you to pick up coins just by walking over them. WHY THE HELL NO ONE CAME UP WITH THAT IDEA BEFORE?!
Actually, pretty much all roguelikes have that. Why it isn't implemented in everything ever still baffles me.

Champions Online type customization.

Seriously light-years ahead of other things. Sure the game itself was not particularly good, but the character creation engine was almost good enough to justify that. Being a game without gear, your appearance was entirely open to what you wanted it to be. Every single part of your body had hundreds of options for physical design and coloring. You could literally be just about anything you wanted - and if the game had actually been good and survived, they just would have kept adding MORE designs over time.

On top of that, it had my favorite open-ended skill system ever created. I should preface this by saying it was horribly imbalanced and did not end up working well, but the concept itself was solid. There were classes with skill sets, but you did not have a choose a class. You could pick any skill from any class and make your own totally unique build.

Telekinetic auto attacks, summon lightning bolts, have a Shoulder Cannon, use super strength to throw rocks, all on one character. It was awesome on a level I have never seen since.

.... What? There was, City of heros, and they did it WAY before champions did. Champions basically copy and pasted CoH, except in a way that was actually worse than the original. Which is one of the reasons the game flubbed as hard and as fast as it did, they made a game that was a subpar clone of a game that had already been on the market for years and had a loyal user base.

Arcanum had that. You had a limited number of inventory slots and each item had a varying inventory size - a potion only took up a single slot, a sword maybe four slots, a suit of armor a -lot- of slots, and they all also had weight which contributed to encumbrance. Neverwinter Nights also has weight and space, with varying sizes on items.

I was under the impression that Champions was created by the same people who made City of Heroes/Villains, but perhaps I was wrong?

Also, didn't City of Heroes/Villains still restrict you into the skills of your archtype, where Champions allowed you to freeform your skill set? It's been awhile, but I am quite sure my Brute had nothing but Brute skills. If I had been able to take other skills on him, I am sure I would have.

I'm playing ultimate team literally right now, on the ps3. I pick my team colours alongside my opponent every match, I didn't even think there was another way to do it.

I didn't do anything special to do it.

No cookies for me...
Ah...that's why.

I've determined that the game allows you to see your opponents kits before the game only when the team you are playing doesn't matter. So un-ranked like Exhibition games allow you to see your opponents kit beforehand. With that, Ultimate Team does because the team isn't the original team; it's your personally built team with the cards. So you could be playing as Man U but you are not actually Man U...

That make sense what I'm saying?

Anyway, I still want them to let me change my kit color during the match :)

Unlimited inventories in RPGs.

Been having another go at Kingdoms of Amular recently, and I gotta say, having to zip back to town every now and again just to sell off my crap adds precisely fuck all to the game.
In the old Final Fantasy games (probably going up to the present day) you'd end the game with every random object you ever picked up and hung on to - just in case - still packed and unused somewhere in the depths of your inventory.

I think limited inventories are kind of misused. The purpose of limiting the inventory is supposed to be to make the player make tough choices. "I found something that might be useful. What, if anything, should I drop so that I can take it?" But when you can sell a nigh-unlimited amount of junk to the shops, it only creates drudgery. Maybe there should be an option to have the shopkeeper send his assistant out to the battlefield with a pack mule to haul away the random stuff for you so that you, the player, can get back to taking on fresh foes.

On the other hand, if the game took seriously the idea that you are the world's Last Hope and the shopkeepers would give you whatever you want, then a limited inventory means that you're choosing your load-out before taking on the latest threat. Money has no meaning, so you can ignore junk without feeling penalized.

Why can't a be Squid Girl in every game!? Or any game!?

OT: Why can't people try to keep controls similar to other games in the same genre. There's some ley-way in this depending on the game, but I shouldn't be throwing a grenade everytime I want to crouch. On the other hand, they could alway give the option to change the controls, which is rare in console game--at least the ones with terrible controls.

In addition to that: the right thumb stick is camera and only camera. Every game from Modern Warefare to Viva fucking Pinata gets it, but there's always someone you messes it up.

Other than control, why can't I get katanas and yakuza tatoos in every game? I don't consider a game to have "customability" without those.

A proper space age in a Civilization game. It would be absolutely insane if you were able to colonise other worlds in the galaxy and compete with other civilizations, and the technological gap would likely be even greater (which is the most interesting thing about Civ).
