Oh gosh, I'm really truly sorry to have introduced you to that unfortunate piece of reality. Well "reality" anyway, it being reality television.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Watching Graham try to save the ending cracked me up pretty good.

So let me get this straight
When Graham says that there may be better sources of news but they don't have this hat, it is actually "you can't step twice in the same river" thing?
And things were this way all this time?
O_O
Shine on, you crazy philosoraptor ;)

Tally and Kathleen! Christmas has come early this year!

By the way, Kathleen, those impact diamonds where actually declassified in the 90s and are porous, which makes them unsuitable for use in jewellery. However, you are still correct in that diamonds are abundant. De Beers and Alrosa pace their diamond extraction in such a way as to maintain high prices. Additionally, Alrosa has a huge diamond reserve.

Thanks for this info! But yeah... anybody who doesn't know this should do some homework. It's kind of an eye opener on Capitalism.

And idk if this practice is wrong... but it sure does FEEL wrong/shady. I mean... how did these companies get to a point where they control enough diamonds to affect its global price? Why hasn't another group of people jumped in to undercut these clowns?
De Beers and Beyond: The History of the International Diamond Cartel [http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~lcabral/teaching/debeers3.pdf]

Large-scale diamond mining appeared only recently, mid-19th century. DeBeers was one of the first players in this market and it managed to create a huge international monopoly. Its stockpiles allowed it to manipulate diamond prices, so that if you tried to set up your own business, DeBeers could temporarily decrease prices for your type of product and force you to either leave the market or fall into line. In the past few decades, several other large government-backed players emerged anyway, but they don't try to compete on price.

Well, Diamonds couldn't be a girl's best friend if they weren't around much.

Also, artificial scarcity. BOOOO!

The Russian diamond mine is so large you can't fly a helicopter over it safely. It generates it's own micro climate.

Do people still not know that the price of Diamonds was just artificial scarcity? I thought that since people were able synthesize diamonds but later found out there are large untapped deposits of diamonds that the controlling family only releases a few of per year. Also if you are like my dumb ass friend, no you can't alter the carbon pyramid structure of a diamond the two compounds are chemically and structurally the same.

In fact if members of this diamond controlling "group" the De Beers or something set foot inside the states they will likely be arrested. No doubt they have bought the local government of where they currently reside so that the same does not happen there.

Then again I never understood the insane value that people attach to what amounts to merely shiny rocks. Sapphires, ruby and emeralds all amount to the same basic compound corundum with maybe an fe ion here or a zinc ion there. Apparently it's due to a reflection instinct meant for finding sources of water but to me the whole argument for a useless trinket being valuable because it's "rare" will never hold water. Cut glass and colored metal is the same thing according to our hind brain.

Boy will I be pissed when I have to buy some dumb shiny rock when I get married.

The monkey shit bit made me bust a gut laughing. That's the hardest I've laughed since your nightflight to Venus episode.

Its good the Honey Boo Boo thing was for the intro only.....because that bit got old FAST.

Honey Boo Boo proves that the movie Idiocracy may be horribly prophetic.

Honey Boo Boo is an example of why eugenics is a GOOD THING when applied properly ie not Hitlers way.

Honey Boo Boo is proof that while many of us Americans may be poor and have boring lives, there is always something to make fun of.

But overall a good episode guys.

[HEADING=1]LYRI'S FUN FACT OF "UNTIL HE HAS SOMETHING USEFUL TO SHARE AGAIN"[/HEADING]

The diamond crater in Russia won't actually have any effect on the jewelery industry at all as the diamonds from the impact aren't the right grade.
They will however keep the cutting and drilling tools well stocked for a very long time to come.

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I heard that the price in diamonds wouldn't drop because whoever is in control of the diamonds only distributes small amounts infrequently.

I'm not into diamonds either. I lose jewelry, so I like getting a bunch of duplicates of $5 pieces. My grandma gave me a $150 sweater necklace make of crystal & onyx that to me looks like a bunch of plastic beads strung together with gold plated paperclip wire. & diamonds? Just rockhard chunks of carbon that can be easily replicated in labs.

My boyfriend (who is an attorney) was talking to a representative of a seller of fabricated diamonds recently on behalf of a client, and to try and put my boyfriend at ease, the dude said, "Hey, are you Jewish? I've got an Irish joke for you." And then proceeded to tell a racist joke.

I believe I'm now more leery of the guys in the Diamond District than anyone from DeBeers.

Also, I'm happy to report that this episode of Feed Dump passes the Bechdel Test [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/TheBechdelTest]! I wonder if any of your sketches have ever done so...

I loved this just for Graham's "Is there a disgusting gender?" line. Oh and Tally's over-enthusiastic Trés bien.

Hell, it's just nice to see Tally back. Unless I'm an idiot and completely forgotten something, she hasn't been in a LRR vid for a while.
