Free speech is dangerous in the hands of an idiot, they should take that billboard down ASAP. On the other hand, I'm curious of what PETA would do if the city's child obesity problem goes away, and a child malnourishment epidemic takes its place.
Blame it on the evil manipulations of 'Big Pharma & the Industrial Farming Cabal' (whatever that means) and some politicians, no doubt.

As I've stated before, I think PETA is kind of a nutcase organization though I *am* vegan myself, for health reasons. My cholesterol is 120 or less every time I get it measured and I'd prefer to live a life free from heart disease and having to take cholesterol lowering drugs.

That having been said, people do MANY things for THOUSANDS of years that are bad for them. Like, drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco. These things cause more deaths combined than every other illegal drug out there, but people still keep doing them - even I enjoy a few beers on occasion.

Just because people have been drinking milk for thousands of years doesn't mean it's good for you. Though, every individual's biochemistry is different. Asians, for example, are mostly lactose intolerant and can't drink milk - they lack enzymes to digest it. (You don't find much dairy products in traditional Japanese diets, and the Japanese are some of the healthiest people in the world - at least, the ones eating traditionally are.)

Milk has actually been linked to causing type 1 diabetes and a host of other health problems; I certainly wouldn't feed it to my kids.

But, it has nothing to do with animal cruelty. I don't view eating animals as cruel - I have five cats; they all eat meat because cats need meat. Humans do not.
While you are correct in saying that humans don't NEED meat, it is far from unhealthy. The problem is, most people go for the fattiest, least-trimmed meat they can find. Chicken and fish, as well as lean meats, are all exceptional sources of protein, necessary fats, and other such goodies.

Veggie-based diets aren't bad for anyone, but children need the fats and proteins that are in meat. You can really get fats from a vegetable.

I'll use the statement my doctor used: Nothing is bad for you... in moderation.

Eating meat is a cultural norm in the places they're running these advertisements. It's not child abuse, it doesn't necessarily lead directly to health problems (though a strict vegetarian died does for some people), and this is patently absurd.

PETA is the Lindsay Lohan of NPOs.

Yes don't feed your kids meat and get them fat, feed them only vegies so they become malnourished and thin so the bullies who ate meat and built muscle can beat them up easier.

Also why is it a problem for people to eat meat but not animals? Don't tell me it's the abuse thing please because yes I get that's cruel but I'm not abusing the animal and I'm going out on a limb here and saying that it's become far less of an issue now.

PETA kills more animals than most kennels and pet establishments, you know.
..Care to explain how?
if that was not replied to yet but they are right
Um i learned about this on Penn and Teller's Bullshit episode on Peta and then looked it up and at the time, not sure if she is still in charge but the head of peta was taken some medication that had animal by product in it but it was needed to keep her alive but still the irony isn't missed but no look it up, they do kill a lot of animals

I'd take them more seriously, if their organization didn't put more animals down than the various clinics and shelters that they are trying to close down.

Feeding your kids way too much of anything is bad, but everything in moderation.

Here is all I can say in retort to that insanity:

You! *points* What song's tune is that song based on? It sounds eerily familiar. (EDITED: It sounds very familiar to Piano man, or am I way off?)

OT: You know what would be an appropriate middle ground? Genetically modify animals to lack self-awareness. Then instead of it being the butchering of 'conscious creatures', you are just breeding meat machines, and all ethical issues cease to apply. Also, PETA, you touch my meat, and you'll take its place (and you sure as hell better taste as good as smoked salmon and bacon covered in various melted cheeses).

I was wondering when they'd say something crazier than their milk erodes bones thing. Having people eat less fat is one thing but their are few sources of protein better than meat and denying a child protein in their developing years is child abuse. I think a court in Florida actually ruled that was the case a few years ago. Some vegan couple tried to raise a baby vegan and the kid ended up dying since they didn't want to take him to a hospital and their diet was not working.

Then again, PETA routinely makes the whole anti-animal abuse movement look bad, so, damn it.

PETA's launched an incredibly skewed and biased ad campaign against the consumption of meat? WHAT?! And I thought Michael Jackson dying was going to be the craziest news I heard all day. Wow. Just...wow.

Meat is murder. Sweet, sweet, delicious murder.

We evolved to become carnivores, not herbivores. It's not an opinion: It's SCIENCE.
Actually, were evolved to be omnivores. We have canines to chew meat and we have molars to eat plants. But yes humans are suppose to eat meat, deal with it hippies.

some people say "Ignorance is Bliss" but PETA takes it to the point where they find a way to over exaggerate their own ignorance. And they wonder why we dislike them so much.

Wish I could tell you, but I stumbled on that song first listening to Dr. Demento.
