Alright people, i'm asking for assistance.

I have to find a topic for a fairly long research paper (7-10) pages.
HOWEVER, i am not just throwing this out there to you, and running away to screw around. I'm going to do my own research right now until i can find something, and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep this thread up while i do my work.

The topic must be about a "British Literature controversy" this means something debatable, not something opinionated that can't be supported (i.e. "Shakespeare was the greatest playwright, ever")
I'm sure some of you are much more knowledgeable on the subject than i am, and I'd really appreciate the help. Maybe help me find a jumping off point? I'm stuck as of right now.

If you don't want to help/can't really help, discuss the worst assignments you've ever had to do for a class!

Thanks guys!

Did Shakespeare write Shakespeare? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare_authorship_question]

I wrote a six page paper on this my senior year of high school and it could have easily been a lot longer. It's actually a really interesting topic. It's also a bit of a controversy, so it should be fair game for you.

Yes this sounds like a great paper! Only problem is... our teacher specifically banned that because otherwise so many people would use it. Thanks though!!

If you can, this would be gold. Debating details in translation could be amazing.

Really? That's odd...I think I was the only one in my class who chose that topic.

Either way, your teacher's no fun. :p

Well, no specific topic here, but Lord Byron was a badass. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_byron] You could probably pull a pretty good controversy out of his life somewhere.

Uhm, I have no idea. The only thing that popped into my mind was the Scottish Enlightenment.

I'll promote this idea, though.

With all the support this has gotten, I really hope there actually are inaccuracies. I made the suggestion based on common translation trends and the ambiguity of the English language, but I honestly have no idea about the King James bible.

Yes, I did quote myself. That's right, shit just got (sur)real.

It seems like there's some meat to this subject, it just takes a little digging.

Also, woah. You're like, hurting my brain man

Try piracy. Your teacher might not like it as a topic, so clear it with them first, but it's definitely a debatable topic that has to do with literature. As an added bonus, you probably already have a strong interest and opinion on it, know where to find good info on both sides of the debate(you might even already have some) and with the massive amount of info out there, you'll make your 7-10 pages easy. That's my suggestion. good luck!

I know it's totally irellevant to the topic at hand, but my boyfriend is a descendant of his.

Also, Ada was taught maths to try and stop her being as wicked awesome as him. Instead, she's the first computer programmer, which is kinda a big deal for me.

The more you know.
