Fetch and Kill X of Y Quests

I know people are sick of these quests. I'm interested in what kind of quests you would prefer to do instead of fetch and killing quests.
What's an example of a quest you want to do?

As long as there is a shocking revelation or angle of some kind (like X and Y turned out to be your true mother or father or something) I am usually interested enough to keep playing. Fallout 3 had a lot of quests like that.

I want to do anything besides going into a field and killing a bunch of the same animal. I would be happy to defend a farmstead from said animal. Or protect the animals from poachers or something. But the idea that I just go into their habitat and slaughter them for no reason other than the one given in quest text is not enough.

Guild Wars 2 is doing what I want. Dynamic quests with enemies which don't just stand there and wait for you. Objectives other than just kill this many or save this many.

i like the pick your path quest were you have the objective and no mater what you choice to specialize in you can finish it. Like for example in Elder scrolls IV: oblivion your given the goal to kill all the guests in a house, you could pick them off slowly or simply mass murder them at once either way you win, unless you get killed.
