Why is everyone so sure that a FF7 remake is a golden ticket? Is there REALLY that much demand for a remake of this game?
I think there is. When Square re-released it on PSN it sold like crazy (I believe it is the top selling PS1 title on PSN) and they made a film (Advent Children) based on this game, something they have not done for other Final Fantasies.

I'd be stunned if Final Fantasy VII on PS3 (Final Fantasy XIII engine) did not sell millions worldwide. While not my favorite in the series (V or VI is, tough call) cannot deny how many people love that installment and everytime Square asks what people want a remake of VII is brought up over and over.

I have mixed feelings about FFVII being remade, while I would LOVE to see it with the latest and greatest graphics, I would desire for them to keep the ORIGINAL turn-based game play since that is what what kind of makes the game a classic. While I haven't seen the new XIII style game play, I'm still iffy on the whole thing.

Chances are, if it did come out, it would be on a system I just happen to not own. =_=

They have been teasing for years ever since that little clip trailer came out. They have, however, released the original for download for the ps3 and psp so they are at least trying to keep it alive in some form. As for remakes of the old FF games before VII I am all for that.

Faster, more automated, only control one character.

It has its + and -, but I agree, that might be odd to change in remake.

Didn't they say that production of a remake would take even longer then Final Fantasy 13 did, and thus wouldn't be as profitable as people think?

Either way, I'm not really a fan of remakes, I like new ideas or at least sequels to expand on things. Does anyone here really want to see that bit where Cloud dresses like a girl and sneaks into the sex club, only to be ambushed by muscular men in a hot tub, in the full, life-like graphical technology of today?
I would! XD
But seriously, I think I'd rather have a VI remake in current gen than VII.

Why?

Because I can't see the closed story and world of VII being expanded without it looking awkard
(especially if not done properly).

VI was a much more open game (world wise, and plot wise), so it wouldn't be too hard to add new quests and some additional storylines to it!

But then again, VI would probably be less marketable, and wouldn't make much dough.

*cough cough* Oh yeah...I totally forgot about that. The whole "chibiness" of the game rather made that whole thing humorous.

Yeah that would suck. Like I said, it is one of those things that would need to be turned based for the whole nostalgia of it. Even though there hasn't been much turn-based since FFX, it wouldn't feel fright to have anything else. Having FFVII with out turn-base is like...not having Cloud cross dress and sneak into a sex club. 0_~

I don't care, I'm just sick of hearing about it. Final Fantasy VII wasn't that great, get over it. To Square-Enix: Either make the damn thing or shut up about it, quit beating around the bush!

Do not underestimate the power of nostalgia to get people to buy games. Mega Man 9 and 10 were purposefully nostalgic. The upcoming Sonic 4 is purposefully also. Heck, Nintendo survived to this day because of nostalgia. There are enough people out there deluded enough to think that the good old days were good instead of just old.

Even though the games in the series were of a middling quality, average to good, the compilation of Final Fantasy VII series did well enough that Square Enix is considering adding more chapters to it.

There are enough people that want to play it again with the updated graphics of this or the next gen home console. I would love to see them come up with a better script that makes more sense.

It is not going to get made because it starts off with an act of terrorism. Despite how we try to spin it, AVALANCHE purposefully went after a civilian compound instead of restricting themselves to Shin'Ra military efforts.

it is more likely that we see a Final Fantasy VIII or IX modernization before we see a VII anytime soon.

Considering they're already making/have already made a bunch of OTHER final fantasy 7 games (Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, etc) they already have the general artwork done. It wouldn't take as much time or effort to make it either... the story is already there.

I haven't played it for the same reasons as OP. I WANT to play it, but I just find I can't take it seriously when I feel like I'm playing with lego pieces on steroids.

IN 2007, Square president explicitly said "We aren't going to remake ff7"

Myths:

Wake up... reality is here and its not happy.

The reality is that within the past 6 or so months a FF7 remake has been mentioned multiple times as the OP said. Which begs the question as to why SE have been talking about it so much lately if they're so adamant in not making it.

This is a company that cannot move on, instead of trying to make something as successful they want to ride on the coat tails of their most popular game.

Why don't they just focus on new material, rather then remaking and rereleasing everything?

Not only that, but a remake means voices for the characters and such and I don't know about you, but the Advent Children cast is not who I want voicing my party, especially Barret. Plus they would have to make mentions of all the BS that came with the prequels and such and to be honest those were just shamless cash ins.

FF7 was great, I loved it. But it's time to move on people.

Only thing I can guess about that... is money.

SE should focus on making a Drakengard game that doesn't suck instead of remaking a(n overrated) game millions of people have already played, beaten, written a strategy guide/fanfic about, and reference via cosplays with in every convention they go to.

Seriously though, Drakengard as a SHIT LOAD of potential:

-Dragons
-Huge battles
-Dragons
-Hundreds of enemies to maim
-Dragons
-Tons of weapons and spells
-MOTHER FUCKING DRAGONS!!!

It's utterly baffling that SE managed to cock that premise up twice in a row.

Sigh. I wish they would put all this focus into making new games which are as awesome as ff7 was back in the day.

I'm not trying to put the game down (personally I found FFVIII to be better but whatever) but to me a game should only be remade if the original version is very rare or hard to find. Given the fact that this game can probably be picked up at most used game stores and that it runs on PS1-PS3 AND considering you can download the game via PSN, I think that nearly all the people who want this game or wanted to play it have done so. I don't see tons of people paying $60 for a remake with better graphics and sound when they can get the proven original for only $10, or in my case, pay nothing as I still have my original PS1 version.
The game regurly sells for $60 in used game stores and hundreds on Ebay.

Every gamer is either a follower, or part of the crowd who deemed the game awesome.

Final Fantasy Fans are rabid. They'll buy anything.

It is certainly a golden ticket.

It would be the first Video Game Remake in history, wouldn't it? I don't know... I would definitely buy it but I would already know the story and everything.

Buy them all :p
Then you're sorted!
I hope they do re-make it.
I look forward to it :p
