Rose Tyler in Series 2 of Doctor Who. She is clingy, possessive, and immature. She also VASTLY overestimates her own importance in the overall scheme of things and never ever gets brought down a level. Not to be confused with Rose Tyler of Series 1, who is a much more relatable character who exhibits actual character growth and gets called out on her mistakes every single time she made one. I seriously have no idea why RTD thought reducing her to the status of Designated Love Interest and Nothing Else was a good idea.

The absolute height of her immaturity comes in Series 4, when the Daleks invade and she's eavesdropping on a conference call of former companions. What is she thinking about? Not that everyone she ever knew is about to die horribly, but that she "was here first" and therefore is more entitled to be in on this conversation than the four people who are more useful, powerful and informed than she is. Seriously, gain some goddamn perspective.

I'm going to go against the original question, because I cannot think of anyone I've hated that everyone has loved and say the person I have loved that I lot of people have hated. The Person in question is Theon Greyjoy.

I'm not exactly certain how many people dislike him, but I've always liked him, even during his stint as the Prince of Winterfell. He just made me feel horribly sorry for him, his father abandons him, he grows up with a strange people in a strange land and when he finally thinks that he has found people he cares for a trusts, he returns home and then told he has to kill them! Then he gets imprisoned by the most horrifying person imaginable, were he is tortured beyond belief, having his skin flayed at one point. He goes through so much and by the end seems entirely remorseful for what he's done, hell he appears that way from the very beginning. I just think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and not growing up with a father really warped his sense of judgement. Considering he is also likely to be executed by Stannis as well, I think it's time the old theon was forgiven.

thats why I think I like jack in retrospect whereas I was mixed at the time..

Harry Potter. for one thing it all seems rather staged to me and for another thing JK Rowling stole lots of material off Tolkien (in my opinion), so I'm kind of automatically disliking her and anything she writes

name me some high fantasy that DOESNT take from Tolkein in some way or another...its almost the entire genre

the differences between harry potter and LOTR are actually pretty notable....one is high fantasy whereas the other ones is "more" urban fantasy

Not to mention she fucking poisoned Snake to protect a brother who killed her parents. She was smart enough to progress nanotech but not to research her brother's past ? Dumb broad...

I just wanted to say about Jack from Mass Effect, I actually did like her as a character.

One thing annoyed me about her though, and that was the whole marketing thing where BiowarE billed her as "The Psychopath". And I am like "Yeh who's bright idea was that?"

Because seriously she is NOT a psychopath in any way shape or form.

Whoever decided that has absolutely no idea what a psychopath is.

Even in game she is portrayed as "the psycho" by the writers (so it was clearly one of the writers who first said "yeh she is a psychopath") or rather you get the definate feeling that the writers want you to think she is a psychopath.
Thing is as I said she isn't a psycho.

There is a big difference between being a psychopath, and being a bit effed up and a bit nuts. She is clearly and obviously the latter.

A psychopath is a person who genuinely is mentally incapable of any sort of empathetic feeling. All they know is their own petty feelings and desires, and THAT is all they care about. They generally aren't "nuts" or unstable.
Nor are they always malicious, although sometimes they are.

She is a sociopath, and perhaps a little unstable as well.

What you just said here is that she isn't a tomato, she's actually a tomato.

The two terms are largely interchangeable.

Claims to fight for "democracy", but only a very small minority of his people actually counted as "citizens" - the Helots, which formed the majority of the population, were basically slaves, to the point where randomly killing one of them was supposedly considered a rite of passage for young Spartiates.
It baffles me that "small government"-conservatives worship this guy as one of their idols, when life in Sparta involved a whole lot of government influence - even if you were among the "lucky" few Spartiates (male Spartan citizens), you'd constantly be called upon to fight in various wars (often wars of aggression). Oh, and let's not forget the fourth-trimester abortions.

Wars of agression?

I'm no fan of Sparta and their society, but their only aggressive periods came during their conquest of the helots and their Hegemony after the Peloponnesian War which was in response to the expansionism of the Athenian Empire.

Before then Sparta was only concerned with maintaining the status qou and their allianced to preserve their unbalanced society and went out of their way to engage in war due to their small population and the crippling effects of even minor causalities. The only peace during the whole war came about when a mere 120 Spartiates were captured and they came begging to the table for them.

Afterwards they were striped of all their power and were left to own devices.

Please don't get your history from comic books.

A couple of people have already mentioned this damn creators' pet, but, well...

This guy is a douche and yet somehow has 2 attractive woman after him, one being the Avatar the other a girl from an incredibly wealthy family. The entire finale I was waiting for both Korra and Asami to ditch him and go for lesbians.

Yes, This.

Mako is a total ass. He treats Korra like trash for the early parts of the season, and then after he is in a good relationship with Asami he then develops feelings for Korra and then justs leaves Asami for Korra after Asami's dad gets arrested. Mako is a terrible character who I want to punch in the face.

Agreeing on both counts here.

Additionally? His fans would have you believe that any criticism of him is "irrational hatred." (I'm sure I shouldn't hold that against the character, but it's kinda difficult not to.) And...well, seeing as him and Korra being paired off was painfully predictable, I wanted to be able to like him, dammit. (Instead, he kind of dragged my opinion of Korra down with him.)

My opinion of Thrall from the Warcraft franchise has also plummeted.
