Fighting Game Fans - MKX

I just watched some matches of Mortal Kombat X, and it looks like a really good game.

The return of sprint makes the matches super fast, like UMK3, and the animations look a lot smoother. The variations for each character is a fantastic way to innovate, and it actually really works in a competitive sense. I find watching fighting games entertaining, and with these variations it will allow a lot of mid match switching and comebacks, which has happened already.

Netherrealm has really gotten into the competitive aspects and the community, they have taken lots of feedback and used it. I really like the direction MK is going in.

Is anyone else excited for this game? It has gone beyond my expectations at this point.

Not particularly interested in MK but I'm looking forward to Blazblue CP Extend which will come out in two weeks or so. It's gonna be amazing.


Not really into these sorts of games but I play Guilty gear, BB (obviously hehe), arcana heart, under night in birth and dengeki bunkou fighting climax (the jp version) so if anyone is into those we can arrange to play!

Personally it's not my style. Mortal kombat always felt so sluggist and clunky to me.

I prefer capcom and arc system games.

Mortal Kombat games aren't my preferred series of fighting games either, but I've still already bought MKX. Very pretty game, even if the animations are still a bit weird. They're certainly improved from past efforts by NRS, though.

Guilty Gear will continue to be my main game. Though I haven't been playing any fighting game consistently enough recently to really consider any game my "main" one.

I remember seeing a VOD by Miles923 on Twitch and they were saying that, while the game itself is pretty bitching, the online is fucking horrible right now and needs some serious patching before it's going to be up to par.
Hell, they were saying it was worse then MK9s imfamously laggy online.

Hell yeah, I'm hyped for it.
Already bought the Amazon Import Edition, weird title, and I'm pretty sure it has little to do with actually being imported but it was the Kollector's (yeah, that was on purpose) Edition with the biggest price tag, a guilty pleasure I haven't allowed my self since Bioshock Infinite.

I can't say that I am "excited", but I am more then willing to buy it after I'll read/hear positive opinions about it in media. Or maybe I should wait for Komplete Edition... Hm...

Either way, if I will buy it, I am so playing as Pump it Up Jax, Shotgun Jacqui and Stunt Double Johnny. I am also going to try out Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Sub Zero.

I was pretty amped for MKX until I saw they were withholding four characters for $30 extra. Instantly downgraded from day one purchase to possible Steam sale purchase 8-12 months from now.

I would recommend skipping the DLC characters, obviously I can't speak for this experience but in MK9 the DLC characters (except Freddy) had to come with 'free compatibility DLC' which most of the community didn't bother to download and you would RARELY be able to use them online. I wanted to main Rain but I almost never got to use him against players, so I just went back to Sub-Zero.

Hell yes I'm excited. MK is one of two fighting games I enjoy (the other being Soul Calibur) and MK X is looking like the best one by far. I'll swing by GameStop and pick up a copy on my way to college tomorrow so I can try it out with my friends there. Hell its a new game so I might even be able to win for a few matches before the local fighting game savant gets in his groove and starts dominating everyone.

I'll play it that's for sure, but I'm not all that crazy about it though. The problem with MK is that there's not too much strategy involved with it, eventually it becomes a high tier slugfest, also x-ray moves, fatalities, brutalities, etc. they're cool and all but I wish there was a way to turn them off, they take too long and really make the matches drag on

Hells yes I'm excited for it! MK has been one of my favorite fighting franchises for years. I'm not a fan of the style of anime, so games like Blazblue and Guilty Gear never had a ton of appeal to me. I liked Darkstalkers, but really only because I thought the idea of playing as famous Hollywood monsters was cool.

I love MK's characters, its 'heavy metal' vibe, how brutal the combat is (not just the fatalites, just the combat in general), the ridiculous cheese of the story, and just the absolutely insane amount of content the games now come with. I also think the variations system sounds absolutely awesome. I'm thinking I'm going to main with a Warlock Quan Chi, a Cryomancer Sub-Zero, and a Kenjutsu Kenshi.

Yeah, somewhat excited for MKX, however, I'm really, really disappointed they haven't made a tag team mode. I've spent a lot of time in MK9 playing tag team, whether it was with 3 (or more, switching teams) other friends or even just playing with one friend and playing the tag team ladder. It was a lot of fun and gave the game even more longevity than it deserved considering online play was pretty much impossible (servers were utter shit, at least on PS3 and it was impossible to get a game without a ton of lag).

Nothing beats 4+ friends in a room all having fun - while we had a lot of MK9 nights, we never had Injustice nights (despite most of us really enjoying the game, even so much that we think it superior to MK9 aside from the lack of tag teams) because it would be just stupid having most of the people wait while only two of us played. There's also the matter of skill difference, where you couldn't have one person who played a lot of it go up against someone who barely had a chance to try it out - much less of an issue in tag team where you could make two pairs with one skilled and one less skilled person playing together.

Same issue exists when you've only just got two people, the game owner (who will obviously generally have played a lot) and a friend who's visiting and barely ever plays. It leaves you the option of either one person playing soft (and that's not fun for either side), one person being frustrated as hell or just playing one at a time on ladder against the AI, which is just... not a group activity. Even my friend who's played more fighting games than I have and whom I played with quite regularly found it incredibly frustrating to fight me in the beginning (and for a long while after) until he got enough practice.

This is in stark contrast to MK9, where we could play together and practice on ladder, and after that do 1vs1s when we felt like it. Hell, even when we both got good at the game, we loved taking it to ladder, playing on highest difficulty and eventually thinking up our own challenges.

Add to all of that how much fun it would be for two friends to play tag team together online (now that it'll hopefully work) and I really don't get why they didn't make the tag team mode. Best answer I could find online is that tournaments are more 1vs1-oriented, but honestly, that sounds like bullshit. 1vs1 was always there, even in MK9 that was played in tournaments and there's plenty of fighting games that do 2vs2 as well. It's just... it doesn't make any sense to me

I'll agree on this one, I was a little disappointed that tag-team wouldn't be coming back. I heard that in an interview, Ed Boon said that they had thought about putting tag-team in, but apparently it was really underused in MK9, so I guess they just didn't see a reason to do it. He did leave open the possibility that it might be brought back in a later patch though, so here's hoping.

I don't play fighting games often and have usually had bad experiences with them. That said, I really enjoyed Injustice and the reboot of Mortal Kombat and look forward to picking this one up tomorrow.

Like Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat has definitely been improving in leaps and bounds with each new release lately to make up for its dismal past, going from interchangeable fighters with different specials to fighters with unique normal attacks to fighters with multiple styles of play, giving you three different ways to use each fighter.

I saw something on youtube to suggest that there's a unique intro for each matchup (with the same character animations but even Guilty Gear Xrd hasn't moved beyond that just yet). Right now, I barely know anything about the game's current fighting mechanics, but the game has definitely put time into fleshing it out style-wise. Still, like some others have said, the grim, quasi-photo-realistic look it has is not really my cup of tea. Nonetheless, I look forward to learning more about it.

I bought it too, it's the first fighting game I'm gonna be playing in a long time to be honest.

Mortal Kombat was my first of that type, I always used to sneak off to a local arcade to go play the first game with a friend. Even though it really wasn't allowed for our age at the time

I remember that and yeah it was a stupid move on Netherealms part I believe they fixed it for injustice however by making the patch mandatory if you wanted to play online that said I think the quick release of DLC characters in a fighter is a scummy practice Arc do it as well and they are bad enough with it but Netherealms are always the worst in this area and it is what has made it a wait for me until the Komplete edition is made and reduced in price in a year or 2.

Ive watched some of the game mainly the fatal 8 tourny and while I did not think it was bad far from it actually it just did not resonate with me the animations still look janky as hell weird freezes some bits way to fast and others way to slow and I still dont get the feeling of impact on hits which I think is a problem I have only ever encountered in Netherealms games.

Im a huge fighting game fan but I still feel MK is behind everyone else (well not counting the real crap) sort of the last on the list for good fighters that said they can still be entertaining but im not supporting that kind of horrible DLC so its a no buy from me if I really wanted the game I would get it and not buy the DLC then probably get the Komplete edition as well later. So yeah im mildly interested but it does not really impress or call to me as a fighting game player (even if I am only a casual enthusiast).

One thing I give them credit for though and always have is marketing all MK games except for 9 and by the looks of it X have been total trash and yet they have sold it so kudos to them. I must admit I am waiting to see what the online is like my bet is that it is garbage. They always say that they have been working on the online and so far the experience has always been horrendous and while they usually improve it it is still far from good. Oh and day one patch at about 1.8 Gb is never good.

The styple switch thing I am unsure on I would need to play it to form an opinion on whether its anything worthy of note or just a useless gimmick because MK loves its gimmicks.

Hope so... honestly, I'd pay money for tag team as DLC. It's worth about 50% of the game to me, if not more, with how many options it opens up.
