I just now posted some very good news for the well-known game "Fighting is Magic" in my Skullgirls Thread. The Developers of the game Skullgirls decided to give the Skullgirls engine they used for their game if they reach 725.000 Dollars!!!!! Details below:

Hello everybody.

Small bit of news:

We're still in game pre-production. Progress is being done. Lauren is still freakin' awesome.

Also!

Some of you guys have been mailing or tweeting us in relation to Mike Z and the Labzero team's offer to let us use the Skullgirls engine. For those of you not yet in the know, Mike Z mentioned in a previous stream of theirs a few days ago that he'd let us use Labzero's engine for our game if their indiegogo campaign reached a certain amount.

We've talked directly to them, and we can now confirm that yes, it is a serious offer, and one we in the devteam are excited about.

Putting things short, it goes like this.

If the Skullgirls indiegogo campaign reaches 725k USD, we (that's our devteam) are given a license to use their engine in our game for free, and to distribute the end product (The game, made in the Skullgirls engine).

That is, needless to say, a very exciting option now open to us. You can donate at this link to increase our chances! Not to mention support Labzero who more than certainly deserve all the support they can get and more to make Skullgirls bigger, better and awesomer than the great amount it already is.

If they don't reach the 725k USD, we wouldn't be getting the license for free, but you would still be supporting them and their game. Which you should. They're awesome.

So there you go!

Also it seems the Mane6 released the first concept art of the new original characters they will use for their game.

With that said, I am really excited for both games!!!!!

I am surprised none have something to say about this.
I mean, This game from a game for MLP fans becomes something entirely new with it seems the first two characters ia a Lama and an Donkey. The third one is somehow difficult to see what kind of animal is.

My first thought upon seeing those picures was "Hey is that a llama?"
I was really looking forward to the original game, but I guess I'll just have to keep telling myself that lamas are cool.

Don't get me wrong, I think everything about 'Fighting is Magic' project is truly remarkable, but for them to use the engine from Skullgirls free, we all have to donate $725,000? Labzero might be expecting a bit to much from people especially since this is a 'donation' kind of thing we're talking about.

The highest i've seen donations get for a kickstarter is like $160,000 ... so, I am unsure if this will do any good. Also the newly made characters (despite that I cannot see them) don't look like a MLP character period. Not sure if this will turn out as good as it was promised, but that's not for me to judge. Hopefully the developers get to use this engine but I am still upset with Hasbro for shutting down this project when it was near completion.
Any amount of money(my money, XD) they will let Mane 6 use of the engine regardless if it hits the goal. I think this more on cashing on bronies which is dirty but a win win.

Theres a lot of diehard fans who would raise enough money for this project.

Would be cool to see it with that engine

But I think that is the point about the new characters of this game. They created new characters that don't have to do with MLP. The developers want to make sure Hasbro don't "block" once more their game because of the similarities the game and the MLP series have.

Also they already had reached 500.000 already. If you think this project get founded in a single day, I think there is hope.

You'd be surprised. Richard Garriott aka Lord British hit over a million in something like a week for his kickstarter, and that's incredible for a man who's often seen less as a developer and more as a running joke.

With brony backing I imagine they'll hit this target.

Oh, and though I'm not a brony, or familiar with her other work, Lauren Faust's actual involvement is one of the coolest things I have ever seen from a big name creator - I can see why she inspires such fan loyalty.

True, though.. I wouldn't like it if they looked nothing like what we'd want to see from MLP. Until I get to see how they look along with their moves- it'd feel like an entirely different thing then what we've all been wanting. Here's to hoping they'll involve OC characters we recognize well that look pony. Not going to be picky by the way, but so far the above OC's don't look unique (despite that I am only seeing their outlines and not being fair to the creations.)

Also wow... $500,000 already? Well darn, I am impressed. Seems this project means a whole lot to the community and I feel pretty excited knowing they are most likely going to use a really cool engine now for their project. If Hasbro though, somehow wants this shut down again I think everyone's going to blow lol.
That I hoped from the beginning myself, that why I created a MLP OC suggestion Thread for the game XD.
But believe me, after so much work they done and get in waste, believe it is very logical to not do the same "mistake" again. After all, it is not the first time publishers cancels fan projects.

As for the Skullgirls project, I hope at least reach 600k just only to get a 3rd DLC character [my vote for the psychopath Taliesin]

EDIT:

I mean, look at him

He is VEGA for Skullgirls series!!!

I doubt this game will even come out.

They have to re-do the entire game, character designs, animations, movesets, hitboxes etc and re-do them in a completely new engine.

Consider that a little over two years passed and they had nothing resembling a complete product for show when they were rolling MLP characters. Now they have to start totally from fresh in a completely different engine.

Yeah, if this game even comes out at all by the time it does everyone will have completely forgotten about it.
Switching to a new engine makes no sense from a development perspective. At all.

This is all ignoring the fact the entire appeal was the MLP characters, lacking that it's just some half-decent fan-made fighting game. Who cares? I have better 2D fighters to be playing if you're not going to let me smash equine heads together.

Too many reasons I have to tell you I disagree with you:

-Maybe they have a lot of work to do, but the fact that they have Lauren Faust as Lead Character Artist and maybe will get for free the Skullgirls Engine, will make their work a lot of easier for them.

-They will not forget it so easily this game. It has already a giant fanbase even if it is from the MLP fandom.
If you visit Equestria Daily site, you will see a lot of support from the fans.

-Who cares? I CARE I MUST SAY!!! Also how do you know if it is good or bad if you don't even touch it?!?!? Don't judge a game if that don't even created!!!!

They went from a weaker fighting engine that had a lot of restrictions to an engine with ease of use in mind for fighting. Considering that these guys were making this game in their spare time as a fan project with no money to speed up the project, was extremely playable in its alpha stages. Even with the lacking MLP character, oozed quality from its music to animation and dedication to make it balanced, has now moved from a fan project to a legitimate project that could be sold for profit. That doesn't count the goodwill EVO has for Mane6 staff, and has always shown it's progress with continuous updates. I have to disagree, they will get it done.

It won't make work easier for them, they will have to re-do everything. Absolutely everything. From scratch. In a new engine. It will likely take them longer than if they didn't use a new engine to re-do all this nonsense. We are looking at a very long waiting time given their past track record until we have something even close to playable again.

And I'm not sure why people make such a big fuss of Lauren Faust now doing character art. Ignoring the fact I don't think her designs are honestly too remarkable on the whole, at least when the game was rolling MLP characters they had an established character design and personality to go off, now they have to invent totally new ones. This will make the game take even longer to develop, not less time.

I forsee at least another two years before something playable is dropped in our hands, unless they really haul ass before people get bored and piss off.

We'll have to see on the second point. I don't think the majority of people will really care all that much. I know it's been actively thrown off the pony board of 4chan since it became no longer pony-related, I don't expect the same of EqD since they're a bunch of optimistic dopey morons but my point is that interest dropped dramatically, time is going to do much of the same.

Third point. Firstly, calm your shit. Secondly, I played the alpha build when it was leaked a few months back. Don't give me shit about pre-judging something when I have played and seen for myself how it goes, it's a fairly decent fighter but it really doesn't have anything going for it in the gameplay department that makes it remarkable over other fighters.

True, true, I will not disagree with the most part of yor post.
Indeed they need a lot of time to create a new game from zero again, but if you think that they still willing to create a game even after 2 years of hard work, I think they will make it.

Plus how often it give you an opportunity to create a game with an artist like L. Faust? Even if you don't like her artwork style, I think the Mane6 developers had archives something remarkable.

Finally you have right about the alpha-built of the game. But as you said yourself it is only an alpha-built. Not a complete game. Also we already said they will create new characters. This give me a reason to still wait to see a final-built of the game knowing it maybe play entirely different from the old game they made.

And something else to say:
It seems the Indiegogo project reached 625+K in only few hours!!!! I still see hope to see this happen!!!!!!

Cheers!!!!
