Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Admittedly the film wasn't that great, and Jim Carey played a SHITTY Count Olaf but it was still enjoyable at bits.
I love the book series, and seeing some of the other books adapted could have been cool, especially the Slippery Slope.
Huh. I actually liked that film, and Jim Carrey's portrayal of Count Olaf. Then again, I tend to like Jim Carrey in most of his films. Well, until recently.

Smh, I have a large disliking for Jim Carrey. :/

And he just didn't seem... evil enough as Olaf.

I think Saw is a good example of this, started off with promise and then went downhill, before crashing and burning into a giant pile of shit.

Both of you, do yourselves a favor if you haven't already: get the Tim Curry-narrated audiobooks. They're fucking DIVINE. He would have been a great Olaf, even if he probably wouldn't look the part.

Ah yes Tim Curry, he was an awesome Long John Silver.

What is an audiobook and how do I get one?

The X-Men films! They were decent enough... until Brett Ratner showed up.
Having two very good movies isn't what I would call dying before its time. Plus, it practically catapulted the superhero movie back into the mainstream, making it bigger now than it ever was.

OT: I don't know, most movies that I liked which had shitty or no sequels were fine as stand-alone titles anyway (The Matrix, Tremors).

The Creepshow movies. The first one was legendary, the second was decent, the third was an abortion.
