My favourite war movie would be Full Metal Jacket and if you mean World War II, then I recommend watching Band Of Brothers. It's my the same people that made Saving Private Ryan and just as good if not better. Oh and it's ten episodes of one hour. So you do the math.

For a thriller I would recommend The Gift by Sam Raimi. It's a real cool movie about a backwater town where a girl is murdered and a psychic is asked for help though she is mocked by many of the townsfolk. A truly great piece by the director of both the Evil Dead series and the Spiderman trilogy. Oh, and it has an awesome cast: Keanu Reeves, Kate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, Giovanni Ribisi, Hillary Swank and the guy that plays Jonah Jameson in Spiderman.

M*A*S*H.

The film, not the TV show. Very good black comedy, but I think what you meant by War Movie was mindless patriotic pap, with a few exceptions.

..If so I'm not an expert in that field. Saving Private Ryan? Red Dawn? I'm totally not reading off a list of the best war-themed movies?

Full Metal Jacket for a war movie.

Either Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Hannibal, or The Shining for a thriller.

Inglourious Basterds?
I wanna see that movie. Is it any good?
In my opinion it was very good (his second best film; second only to Reservoir Dogs), though quite a bit of the humour comes from it being a pastiche of "arthouse" cinema, so it may be a little drawn out for some.

Films you may not have seen...

Equilibrium
Slumdog Millionaire
Pan's Labyrinth
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (though you won't get it at all unless you've played FFVII)

Deathwatch

It's both a war movie and a thriller.

I think there is more then one movie with this title though, make sure it's the one set in WW1 and has Andy Zerckis in it. I think it was 2001 when it came out... not sure though.

...

Watch whatever you like.

Are you looking for a recommendation? Alright, in that case, what do you like about films? You say war, so do you mean Saving Private Ryan or The Pianist
either but i would prefer a Saving Private Ryan type thing
Okay, watch both then.
Still, what do you like in films?
I'll happily watch anything apart from romance(unless it's a very good story)and has uckin' zac effron in it
Okay. Then watch everything bar romance and movies starring Zacc Efforn.
So... my question again. What do you like in film? I'm saying this so I can recommend you something.

La Vita Bella - Life is beautiful would be my pick for non actiony war movie. It's about this italian man and his son who are sent to a concentration camp and the man spends the whole time convincing his child that it's all a game. The humour is top notch and it's just all round a great movie.

Action war movie would be Saving Private Ryan. As far as I'm concerned the best war movie ever made, although I'm sure many would disagree. The gritty realism of the whole thing just makes you feel incredibly sympathetic to the actual soldiers who had to go through all that shit and it put me off joining the military forever. Which is a good thing.
