So, I really like Jim Sterling's new show, Movie Defense Force. And I was thinking about movies that I like that would make good episodes.

Personally, I'd like to see one about The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I loved that movie when it came out, but I always see people talking shit about it. Maybe it's because I've never read the comic book it's based on, but I thought it was action-packed fun. Like a steampunk Avengers.

Also, Little Nicky. It always mystified me that alot of people hate this movie, I think it's funny as hell, and easily my favorite Adam Sandler movie.

What about the rest of you? Remember, it's gotta be movies that you LEGITIMATELY like (not ironically, or "so bad it's good" movies).

"Popeyes chicken is fuckin awesome!"

I too found Little Nicky entertaining. It's certainly not the best movie ever but it's not THAT bad...right? I haven't seen it in a while so maybe it is.

My Choices

Boondock Saints 2: I'm not sure if this would count because it's not really hated. It does seem to be very polarizing however; you LOVED it like I did or you hated it with the passion of a thousand suns.

Final Fantasy; Spirits Within: Now this one is a more universally hated movie so this is probably a better example. I swear, if you remove the Final Fantasy name, I think the movie would have been much better received. I liked it a lot and never really got the hatred.

OH! I almost forgot the greatest anti-war film ever created! Battleship [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.400271-Battleship-Popcorn-flick-or-brilliant-satire]!

I'd like to see The Lost World: Jurassic Park up there. It's one of those divisive films that people either love or hate. I fully admit that it isn't as good as the first one, and the heroes are responsible for every death in the movie. But I still love it. More Jeff Goldblum is good.

Not unlike Final Fantasy XIII. Ba-dum tish!

I liked Spirits Within. But that's mostly because it's been a long time since I last saw it, back when I wasn't nearly as critical of films, and it was very pretty. Dunno how I'd feel now.

You know, I tried running that argument by the Brovengers a few weeks ago, and apparently nobody else liked Jeff Goldblum.

OT: The Next Generation-era Star Trek films. I'll grant that the plots of Insurrection and Nemesis are batshit insane, but they've still got moderately decent scripts, great acting and effects, and are extremely entertaining to watch. To me, at least...

Zombie Strippers.

Seriously, Zombie fucking Strippers. I just don't understand how people can hate that movie, it's goddamn amazing, a masterpiece of cinema if you will.

I'd love to hear a MDF of Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. I actually quite like that movie. I could if given the opportunity, cover why I think it's probably one of the best Elm Street Movies since the first one, if not almost being better than the first (What?)

I don't think it's that bad of a movie, honestly. Not great, but compared to the rest of the series, it's a masterpiece, even if the vague homoerotic tendencies come off a bit strong (REALLY strong, I admit).

Ang Lee's Hulk.

The story was unnecessarily convoluted, the comic panel style was a giant blunder, and some of the acting was cringeworthy to a fault. Yet I still kind of like it, and most definately prefer it over The Incredible Hulk.

Definitely Escape from LA. That movie gets way more heat than it deserves. It was a cheesy, silly, campy and weird action movie, and it was great fun. Really don't see why people hate it. Yes, it wasn't the same as Escape from New York, but that doesn't mean it is awful.

Also, Halloween III. Once you get past the fact that it isn't a Michael Meyers film and is instead trying to do it's own thing, it actually works pretty decently and turns out surprisingly well. It was unique, creative, visually-striking, and fairly well-made. Better than many give it credit for.

What about the 2004 movie Van Helsing? It's got an "Professional" movie reviewer rating of a measly 22% but a 66% fan rating. Personally I loved it.

And I just love it when a movie that grosses over $450 million worldwide gets panned by the "Professional Critics".

Just because it's true and I am predisposed to being contrary, I feel the need to point out that my feelings towards Boondock Saints 2 can accurately be summarized with the phrase "meh".

Or the Neutral Response Futurama clip.

I loved the first one to death, but the second was just good enough to not trigger my nerdrage, but bad enough that I don't actively like it.

So they got rid of the TNG cast?

Okay, I kid. There were two or three actors on that show that were decent.

The rest could make Twilight look like solid delivery.

The Wachowskis' Speed Racer. I think it's a structurally flawed but brilliant movie, with a unique and trippy visual style and huge entertainment value.

Saying this on the Internet, however, tends to result in long tirades about live action anime adaptions, even longer tirades about how this movie represents everything wrong with humanity, and uncreative insults regarding my mother's character.

So it'd be nice to hear Jim give one of my favorite movies some love.

I reckon Tank Girl is one in need of some defense. While it's definitely a silly movie it was also a lot of fun, but for some reason it's looked down through many noses and I don't believe it deserves the shit it gets.

Also, I agree with little Nicky for the exact same reason.

I think the Star Wars prequels would be interesting to see on Movie Defense Force. I have heard people say both good and bad things about them. The person that choreographed the lightsaber fights is pretty talented in my opinion. I think his name is Nick Gillard.

Get Smart, - a lot of hate when you check imdb
Van Helsing (as someone mentioned above),
GI Joe, - it's good for what it is
Quantum of Solace,- same
Howard the Duck, - same

It seems like people get upset when a movie is a genre they were not expecting....like when some can't appreciate street fighter as some good random epic fun because they were expecting some sort of serious 'blood sport' type film

Personally I am driven to insanity by the horrible intro and outro, so I skip to 15 seconds, pause, play the Jimquisition intro and then close the Jimquisition tab and unpause MDF. I'm not kidding, it's worth it for me.

But anyway...

...Quantum of Solace. Because I personally didn't dislike it and would like to be validated in my opinion. All I've heard about it says it had horrible writing, and while I certainly liked Casino Royale better, I didn't think it was particularly the worst thing ever to happen to the Bond series, and I feel stupid for not seeing the plainly obvious flaws. Although if someone could quote me and tell me what was wrong with it, I could at least pretend to have picked up on them myself, and that would serve much the same purpose. With that chilling introspection out of the way...

...also, I'd like to see less a) movies that were panned because they were an adaptation and the audience of the source didn't like it for not being a good adaptation, and b) horror movies that are so bad they become good, just not for most people.

Swordfish: Sure, it's stupid and all but it's not awful.
Conan 2011 : Not a masterpiece, but as bad as people say? No.

Definitely. Personally I wouldn't have made any changes to that film. It's hard to understand why people hate so much on that one.

Anyway,

Battleship: Because it has great pacing and it is pretty touching.

Sucker Punch: fuck it. I don't think even Jim is going to defend this one but for me it's one of the best, most interesting, most breath taking movies ever made.
