Colonel Crowe at the end of Farcry: Instincts, he is just freaking impossible and Mr Stone on the original Rayman.
And it's not a boss but I've completley given up on TLoZ: A Link to the past, I swear I don't know why it's so hard, I definately prefer the 3D Zeldas.

To whomever said Lunar: It's not bad game design... the bosses just scale to your level. It's so that they are always a challenge. Stick with it. At least that's how the PSone games were.

I can't remember a boss recently I gave up on. The Witcher has some hard ass bosses and I beat Cave Story, but gave up on the bonus dungeon, if that counts.

Raam from Gears. I don't know why. I even went to the FAQs and everything. I was playing it right, but I just couldn't hit him enough times before he drove me into the flocks of bats. Overall, I was unhappy with fighting him anyway. After working through all of the game where the type of weapon you use was secondary to how you used it, being forced to use explosive arrows and the sniper rifle instead of your trusty assault rifle felt like a cop out.
You just need a partner to help you - if you wanna complete it and you have live send me a message on live.

Mostly bosses from rental titles, but though I never played Lunar 1, if he's anything like Zophar in Lunar 2 anyone who complains about either of them is justified.

1st phase is pretty simple, but it's obvious he's got to have more than that. 2nd phase always kills me; Not only must you sit through tons of dialogue while an invincible Zophar pounds on you and you can do nothing but heal, after the real fight starts it's not much different. He has 1 head and 4 hands, each with their own powerful attacks and more HP than the 1st form apiece. Some FAQs I read suggested a suicide run at the head but that never seemed to work since the hands prevent physical strikes on it besides Poe Sword and some of Leo's stuff. He also gets 2 different insta-kill attacks, one of which is only used after 10 rounds or so (the laughter). Either way, there's not much you can do if he insta-kills Ronfar enough times so you run out of revive items (to be fair, I was only Level 56 and didn't have the items to grind any higher so maybe being Level 60+ helps). I only ever managed to kill 2 of the hands at best before either running out of revives or simply getting overwhelmed by all the damage. Great music though.

Apparently he actually has a 3rd phase you fight with just Hiro and Lucia as well, which is equally difficult.

The sorceress boss at the end of Final Fantasy VIII, the characters used in battle are chosen at random at she will always be the same level as you (If you level up she will too)

Lunar 1 and 2,... really?

I don't remember even dying at all on those bosses. It's a shame, the endings are BRILLIANT!

EGG in SaGa Frontier 2, often considered the hardest Traditional RPG End Boss ever... because he's nearly impossible to beat. He has 7 or so Suplimentary Bosses, each of which you can defeat before hand to make him easier... the catch is, each of these fights knocks out one of your characters, sometimes the powerful ones you REALLY need to fight the EGG proper and even after you beat all 7 of these, he's STILL REALLY POWERFUL!

The final boss from Donkey Kong 64, on paper it sounds very easy - get all the stupid monkeys to jump into cannons and fire themselves at the boss, however the only thing that ended up being fired was the game cartridge at the wall after being ripped out of the console. There are several 'mysterious' holes in my bedroom walls. And we never completed it. =[

OMG I never beat that game because I couldn't beat the original Donkey Kong you had to play to get the coins.

:( I suck at those kind of games.

Okay, for the guys having trouble with Half-Life, you need to stop him from regenerating (it's not hard, so I won't say how) then get above him and blow his brains out (preferably with a non-guided shot from the rocket-launcher - the laser throws off your aim and anyway it's more stylish).

Now, final bosses I couldn't beat...

That guy from Wolfchild (embarrassing, I saw someone PUNCH him to death on Youtube);

The last level of Aquanox (I could take out both bosses, as much as was possible, but those EFFing giant fish that attack the convoys that kept winning out - oh, my kingdom for a quicksave!).

Can't think of any others.

Shadow Queen in ICO.

My dog bit the disc in half.

I really should hunt down a new copy of that game.

Link to the Past is a lot harder I think... your sword is painfully short and all knights have a damned shield!

Great topic, I never beat the last boss on Parasite Eve, Oblivion (I just got wrapped up in convoluted side-mission-land) Never won campaign mode on normal for any of the DoW games (I swear the computer uses unfair honor guard tactics) Never actually finished Assassins Creed (Sorry, but after like the 4th chapter that game just repeats everything to death) For some reason, Half Life 2 shut me down about halfway through, but the sequels were cake.

If you wanna go back and try it, I believe all you really need to do is send a meat shield to keep the swords distracted, while you just unload all you have on her, fairly easy fight.

Mother Brain from Metroid

Just haven't taken the time to do it. I have an emulater, I own the original, with a save state at the last door before you head into the chamber at completely full energy and missles. I collected every energy tank and every missle tank, but I just can't kill her for some reason.

Megahulk from Descent

This has got to be one of, if not the, toughest bosses ever. A robot that has a ton of hit points, can create as many robots as he needs to help him, can teleport, can become invisible, and uses the strongest offensive weapons in the game (fusion cannon and mega missles). It's just not fair.

You are going to have to tell me which game you are talking about.
