That just tells me that the devs knew that the levels were impossible to navigate without them. It's a patch fix.

And I think that's a bad path for the game.

I admit, I didn't see the sewers fight. Still, this is all heavily front loaded stuff we're seeing here.

.....Thank you for sharing.
The original 1997 PS1 version also had map markers. It was the first 3D Final Fantasy game, so they probably new that the map wasn't always clear.

And I agree. I don't want the game episodically.

However I'll take it in parts over not getting it at all. And they did say that they plan to expand out each part to make sure there is plenty of additional content to make each release feel rich and full of shit to do.

I'm totally okay with them expanding the game. I just hope that each part release isn't 15 fucking years between each other.
That isn?t a good thing. If you need to dedicate a button so that people can find an exit.

Considering SE?s latest productions, I?m not optimistic. Also Kingdom Heart?s fans say you should get comfy.

The only thing I want in Life is this game. Can you guys tell that this is my favorite game of all time, and this remake is like a childhood dream come true (if it doesn't end up blowing ass).

Seeing the scenes direct from the original game remade in this trailer brought me to damn near tears. I can't wait.
Tifa better have the REAL Tomb Raider 1 lookin' ass balloons and none of that AC shit I'm telling ya!

Is there any reason to think this is gonna be any good? I didn't hate FF XV but it wasn't exactly groundbreaking and wouldn't have been, even if the budget hadn't obviously run out in the second half. And XIII and it's sequels were an even bigger mess. Is there literally anything about this game that should inspire hope?

FF 1. Dirt Simple to play. Either play NES Original which was harder, or the latest PSP version which has a lot more conveniences like save anywhere. 1st Edition Dungeons and Dragons level of story telling of just kill the badguy and stop the world from dying by powering these Elemental Crystals of Fire Water Earth and Wind. I still recommend giving this game a try at least. Its not that complicated and you can probably finish it in a week.

FF 2: Hardest and most grindy game in the series. Despite the PSP versions conveniences its still a bit of a struggle. First to try a story with characters but it was still simple. Though a lot of the characters would be archetypes for future FF characters.

FF 3: The most deepest of the NES trilogy gameplay wise for having the option to switch classes (or Jobs) introduced the Dragoon, Summoner, and other FF staples we see later. Story is Dirt Simple too.

FF 4: The game that truly formed FF as the series we all know imo and I recommend starting with this one. Best cast of characters and a bit more deeper story telling. Love, Betrayal, Mystery, etc.

FF 5: Pretty much a sequel to Final Fantasy 3 gameplay wise with the return of the switching Jobs system. Only with even more classes. And its the hardest game ever according to the internet. Story is also the strangest for me.

FF 6: Arguably the pinnacle of the sprite based games. Best Story arguably because of the villain, best music, best cast even though its too much, memorable setpieces. Fast gameplay.

FF 7: Its not a bad game, its really not, infact I say its a great game. But from here on out Final Fantasy would never be the same again.

FF 8: And we arrive at the shitter imo. Its not only the story is eh, but the gameplay is just made complicated for no good reason. Enemy Level Scales and the Junction System is a love it, hate it thing. The spectacle of it is fun though.

FF 9: My favorite of the PS 1 games. BEST ENDING EVER. And it went back to basics giving us a fantasy setting.

FF 10: I'd say this is one is divided as a love it or hate it game. I do think its better then FF 8 though. But damn I hate the protagonist. We went from Cecil to this guy. And this is the first game to have a direct sequel called X-2. Never beaten this and its a bit dumb.

FF 11 is an MMO I have no experience with. I have been told it was the most painful and grueling grind MMO ever, but it was a very successful game that it arguably proved competitive with Everquest at the time.

FF 12 my favorite game in the series bar none. Gameplay, and Setting, and World Building is great. I love any of the Final Fantasy games that takes place in Ivalice.

FF 13. Everyone hated it, only aberrants love it. No comment on the sequel games to this but it seems to be no that great either.

FF 14, again an MMO. But everyone is treating it as the best modern MMO ever that its even toppling WOW at the moment. I just wish it was a single player game.

FF 15. The latest, never fully played it but it seems to be way better then 13.

FF spin-off games to play are the Tactics games, technically Vagrant Story, and Crystal Chronicles, the first one.

I've played a majority of the early ones and have some familarity with the later ones.

As far as FF7 goes, just play the original for now. It's gonna be a while before the remake shows up. Just remember it's 20 years old and was a PS1 game at that, so yeah.

As for the series at large, most of the games are completely separate, so FF9 and FF10 pretty much have nothing to do with each other as far as plot/characters/etc. Some recurring elements show up such as Chocobos(the giant chickens) and airships but for the most part it's more mechanics then anything else connecting them.

FF6,FF7, FF9 and FF10 are generally the best regarded. The really early ones FF1-3 tend to be ones you play if you want to see how the series started and took form(though I have a soft spot for 3). FF4-10 are where the series hit it's prime. I've pretty much not bothered with anything past 10 because MMO, MMO(but single player), Awful Interactive movie/Mons Game/Whatever, Another MMO, and then FFXV:Bro Road Trip(but I hear that one is kinda good).

Oh, and anything that has a subtitle or isn't just a number is a spin-off or sequel. X-2 is a direct sequel to X, FF7 has a bunch of spinoff games you don't need to worry about until you were really into 7.

FF1: It did have a rather weird twist for what was basically a DND campaign built on a NES Cartridge, ironically far more interesting the rest of the game even if fairly nonsensical.

FF2: I remember this as "This is the game that hates you, the player, and tries to break your will at every opportunity". Dark Souls wants you to get good, even if it has to literally hammer your skull in to do it. FF2 just wants to kneecap you and kick you in the groin repeatedly once you're down.

FF5: What? Because the big bad is an evil tree? That's fairly tame by Japanese cra-cra plots. Especially in light of FF8's wierdass end-sequence(TIME COMPRESSION!) or half the shit that happened in Chrono Cross. I'm not going to bring up Xenogears to spare us all.

Besides, the Tower(and everything connected to it) in FF3 was far worse then any final dungeons that came after that. FF3 didn't have in-dungeon save points and Revives/Pheonix downs were rare as hell. Once you started up the tower it was the end or bust.

FF9: To me this is a giant love letter to the fans, and in my opinion, the apotheosis of what the series is and was, aside from a few issues here and there(the loading times, Freya's arc, whatever was up with Necron).

FF10: I wanted a button that allowed me to electroshock Tidus mapped to my controller, so whenever he tried to talk I could just zap him. Or a way to turn off the voice track. X-2 I dug for about 2 hours and then realized it was kinda shallow.

Just play the original VII. It's held up the best unfortunately it looks like the remake is going to continue Square's questionable decisions in regards to expanding the original into something it wasn't.

That and it's unlikely you'll see the entire remake for another half a decade or so. Since it's gonna be episodic with apparently years between episodes and the first one isn't gonna release for another year or so. Might as well play the original so you can decide if you want to bother with the remake when it eventually releases.

As mentioned above, It's one thing to say something is gonna release over the course of a year or two as an episodic game. It's another to say something is gonna release over a console generation as an episodic game(knowing SE and comparing to FFXIII and it's sequels). There's only one game I've put up with that from, Kentucky Route Zero, and they get a lot of slack because it's a very small studio and it's so unique.

You should start with Final Fantasy IV. The Steam version is pretty good. It isn't the best FF (that's Final Fantasy VI), but it's the best entry point.
