Umaro- Never cared for him.
Cait Sith- Seriously. Gimmick character, lame limits. Give me regular Reeve any day.
Sephiroth- Delusional Mama's boy and essentially a clone of Kefka only with an attitude reversal.

Definitely Vaan. Unimportant, annoying, and he looks like he's fucking twelve. Seriously, he needs to go.
seifer from FF8 as the game is my favourite and feel sorry for squall for having such a crap rival.As squall kicked him around the place everytime they met without breaking a sweat.

FFVI/III: Gao. He annoyed me
FFVII: Professor Hojo. Once again; he annoyed me. Also; he could have been a far more effective villian
FFVII Crisis Core: Genesis. Gackt, stop trying to claim video games and anime. You have no place in Final Fantasy, deal with it!
FFVII Crisis Core: Cissnei. She was a failed love interest with no real purpose ... though I guess I could have missed something ...
FFVIII: Zell. He annoyed the piss out of me.
FFIX: Zorn and Thorn. I dislike clowns >.> Especially Jesters
FFX: Titus because he couldn't decide between wearing shorts or kapris

Tidus, Wakka and Yuna, in that order. 7, 8 and 10 are the only Final Fantasy games I've played, but the characters in the former ones were all at least bearable.
But, thinking about it, the reason I hate the ones in FFX so much is probably because they get so much screen time. And they're voice acted. If something was stupid in earlier games, you could just click it away.
But in 10, you have to sit through unskippable cutscene after unskippable cutscene, listening to their amazingly badly written (translated?) dialogue and voice acting until you want to stab needles into your testicles just to distract yourself from it.

To be honest in this point in time I think everyone hates cloud because he in fact is the most emo character ever plus let face it his name is incredibly stupid too.Just_Karol said:

I don't hate Cloud, don't love him either, but he has a few reasons to be depressed like losing a girl he loves, finding out his life was a lie, watching his hero do god awful things etc.Shamus.exe said:

At least both Tidus and Squall develop as characters, Vaan doesn't do jack shit and doesn't really change at all over the course of the story. He is a complete waste of space and an annoyance to boot.

FF8: Irvine. His ass got promptly relegated to back-up duty.
FF9: Quina. I won't use a character if I can't tell just WTF it is.
FF10: Khimari. I hear he's awesome, maybe I'm just not using him properly.

I agree with everyone's sentiments about Vaan to some degree, but I haven't finished the game so I don't know if he has any long-lasting importance or not. I know...I'm SOOO behind the times not to have even finished FFXII.
I never finished IV. There seemed to be two posses of characters: one small group that had plot relevance and some degree of likability, and another group composed of uninspired wanna-be tag-alongs.
In FFVII, I never hated Yuffie. But Cait Sith I dislike. He steals a very plot-relevant item from the party and then asks them to pretend like it didn't happen...AND THEY DO IT. Ugh.
In FFVIII in retrospect I don't care for Zell or Selphie. Zell is too hyper to be taken seriously and doesn't really contribute much to the story. Selphie for the same reason. At least the other characters had some interesting qualities.
Liked everyone in IX, X was an incredibly mixed bag in every way, X-2 was enjoyable for me, despite the fact that it was an exercise in pointlessness, and I liked everyone in XII.

To be frank, I didn't realise Cloud was classified as emo untils yonks after the Advent Children ( I'm assuming that was the main turning point). I personally didn't like him, because he wasn't a generally likeable person. There are points where he's selfish, arrogant and just oblivious to other people feelings. And I honestly can't think of other value that is considered redeeming of him.Shamus.exe said:

I didn't care for Amarant in IX. He didn't really contribute anything to the story. He was just kinda a random character they threw in, much like the final boss.
As for my final character I found Ellone from VIII annoying. Can't quite place my finger on why though.

A character steals from me, that means a new bullet-shaped nostril on their face. No exceptions. FFVII didn't allow me to do that. So I hate them.
I also found Aerith to be a bit on the indifferent, bordering on dislike status. Along with Cloud, but Cloud was bit of an amnesia-patient with military background so that was to be a bit expected.
