The Xbox 360 version is in only 576p compared to 720p, that is almost HALF the resolution and scaling up to 720p or especially 1080p looks diabolically bad. Everywhere the Xbox 360 version is compromised, mostly in the incredibly compressed animated cutscenes, a mainstay of the series.

As far as I'm concerned the Xbox 360 version should be sold with a 25%-33% mark down in price ($40-45 or £25-30) because you are getting a game that is only half as good as the PS3 version. For that reason the Xbox 360 version is a rip-off. And that is not a relative thing, NO GAME this generation should be struggling along at 576p resolution.

Admittedly, part of the problem here is that Final Fantasy 13 began development on the PS3 and rather late in the game a 360 version had to be made/ported-to, that that is the problem with this generation, the platforms are similar... but not close enough.

So many really advanced graphical effects developed for PS3 just will not transfer over to 360, unless maybe you start again from scratch.

I followed your link and really enjoyed it. I'm not a tech buff so I enjoyed reading an insiders view of the side by side comparison. The jist of it is that the PS3 version looks superior, no shocks there.

They do say that the 360 version is still a handsome title, it is just a shame that sqeenix didn't use all of the 360s potential. Again, not the same as doesn't look good. The shots I saw did look good, they just lacked the polish and some of the fine detail of the PS3. Without playing them side by side you would not have noticed.

I've not read many reviews for FF, I don't plan to buy it, but none of the reviews for the 360 that I've read have said "looks like crap". If minor polish on in game videos and graphics will ruin a game for you then we play games for different reasons.

If I had both consoles, and really needed FF, I'd buy the Ps3 version. It does not make the 360 version not worth buying (if you like that sort of thing). It's the first FF on the 360, there were going to be teething troubles.

You are right about buying both consoles. I have no issue with Sony, when I was younger I would have owned a PS3 as well, I've always owned multiple consoles. At the point in time when I went next gen the 360 was financially more attractive. Thats the only reason I went 360. With the new pricing by Sony there's no longer much in it.

The difference now is that I have a family and a mortgage. I could afford both but I choose to spoil my kid instead. Maybe when he's a bit older I'll be spoiling him with multiple consoles... then sending him to bed early.

Absolutely pointless, methinks. I stuck with the PS2 for ages, and own FF X, X-2 and XII on PS2. I'm used to playing FF games on the Playstation consoles, all the way through until now. And yet, as an Xbox gamer now, though I do still have that old PS2, I plan to buy FF XIII on Xbox 360. Why can't the fanboys stop arguing and just be glad that at least one major company has finally saw sense and realised that exclusivity is one of the worst things to exist in gaming? Aside from shoddy DRM, I mean (oooh yes, I went there...).

No, I'm more than 2/3 through the game now and I don't feel as if I could have gotten more on the PS3. Maybe if I did buy it for the PS3 my battles would look a little nicer but when it comes to visuals in Final Fantasy it's all about the cutscenes and they do not disappoint.

Fair enough if it's multiconsole but I tend to get all my games for the playstation anyway so it's not really going to change my habits- if I end up getting the game that is. Poor 360, that's what you get for RROD'ing on me two days after warranty.

It could also be that the x360 version is terribly worse than the PS3 version. And that the PS3 version could have been even better if they didn't have to reduce the quality of the game for it to support x360, which ended up with a worse version anyway, so what's the point.

Is this supposed to be a surprise? Honestly all the Final Fantasy fanboy bought a PS3 on release when FFXIII was annouced as a PS3 exclusive. Also all the fanboys knew the PS3 version looks better and had more effort put into it. Fanboys are outraged with the 360 release only because of it's late announcement. Trust me if they said it was multiplatform to begin with, there would be none of the contempt. I bought both version and I honestly wished it was an exclusive title on either one of the consoles so I didn't have to hear fanboy debates over which looks better without playing both.

For the record the pre-rendered cutscenes are almost identical in look but colours seem brighter on the PS3 and the 360 version gets the occasional split/tear.As for in game graphics, it looks better on PS3 but that's probably due to the native scanrate. You can lose on either version, so why won't the fanboys shut up?!
