7. Even though it's graphics haven't aged well, I love the amount of extras, side quests, and awesome stuff.

Final Fantasy 9. Has my some of my all time favourite FF characters and has a really unique, interesting setting that really hasn't been utilized in many games. A very close second is 10 for the same reasons. Spira was a great setting.

FFVI was very well done, awesome music, direction, story and gameplay, but I never completed it, lost the save.

FFX, awesome music and story, gameplay was fun, the voice acting was terrible though. The first FF I manage to completed and the standard in which I judge every FF since - and sadly none of the new ones have reached the bar it set.

Never played FFVII.

FFVI and FFVII was probably Squaresoft's peak. They continue to do well up to and including FFX, then fell off a cliff after that.

I think Final Fantasy VII is the best, but my favorite is VIII. Although my brother says we played VII when we were super young (not sure how he remembers this, as I'm older than him), VIII is the first one I remember really playing. I liked the characters, liked exploring, I liked tracking down every aspect of the story. I loved stumbling across Omega and getting stomped the first time, then figuring out how to beat him.
I liked that this one had an actual ending. You know, where everything is wrapped up all nice and happy like. You get to see what happened to everyone. And I mean everyone. You even got to see that the Girl with the Pigtail ended up with Zell. The only other FF game that's done that good a job with an ending is IX.
I dug out every part of that game looking for little bits of information. I was blown away when I figured out who Squall's parents were.

VI was just, great

There's varying degrees of both angst and emo. I, for one, would consider Batman to contain both qualities, just as Squall does.

Being angsty and/or emo doesn't mean you sit around listening to Linkin Park and cutting yourself all the time. Being cold and brooding towards others goes with being angsty, and the scene that I mentioned previously displays Squall as being emo.

As I said though, I'm not here to try and start an argument over this. If anything, I was simply trying to explain how other's see Squall that way, as you had mentioned in your original response:

There is plenty of evidence to support everyone else's interpretation of Squall, but the best part is: that's just their (and my) opinion. If you enjoy the character you shouldn't worry about other people not liking him, and it's not my intention to try and change your mind on the matter either. :p

But I guess what it comes down to is that indeed, different people have different definitions of the terms "angsty" and "emo". To me, emo isn't a genre of music, for instance...but rather a type of song, and damn near every musical artist ever has made a number of emo songs. Angst, on the other hand, means being frustrated and brooding for no real reason, as in "teenage angst". As I said above, though, there's varying degrees of these things, and at least in my eyes both Batman and Squall are angsty emos in their own ways. :p

Edit: To hopefully clarify a bit, here's a brief list of some FF characters I consider to be emo and/or angsty:
Cloud
Sephiroth
Cyan
Shadow
Terra
Locke
Cecil
Kain
Tellah
Vincent
Tidus
Yuna
Kimari
and even Ramza, from FFT which I declared as my favorite FF. :p

Personally, I liked Final Fantasy IX the best, mostly because there was just so much stuff to do along with the storyline. It was also the first system I had seen with items giving abilities that you'd have to practice enough to learn, awesome. It also was, to me, the last Final Fantasy that could convey a good story with all of its emotional elements without using speech/vocal audio.

Gotta love that chocobo search/find stuff mini-game even in the open world.

Final Fantasy IX Why other than having the best characters, story, music and just about everything else?

Zidane grabs Garnets ass whilst climbing a ladder on a moving airship...and when he grabs her ass cheek he says "Ooh Soft"
Haha! That is an awesome scene! I also loved the 'Garnet changing behind the barrels' scene! Steiner really cracks me up when he takes things so seriously like that! :p

There were loads of great characters, and I liked the visuals the best out of any other game! I loved the locations, and the gameplay was simple and worked! I also have the soundtrack on my iPod! I love it! My favourite soundtrack by far!!

I also like that it looks the most cartoony FF game of them all, but has the darkest storyline! An evil queen being manipulated by a souless being, who in turn is being used by an evil overlord from the moon! She then massacres entire cities by using powers forcefully extracted from her only daughter, adopted by her late husband!

The lead character finding himself also previously a puppet, but now one of free will, and his own mind... A knight who gave his all to a nation he cares about, but now has doubts about what is now right or wrong!

Also some awesome side quests... and I loved the tetra-master once I had got into it! Collecting cards in that way is pretty fun!

So yeah! IX is my fav too!

Final Fantasy IV, it still has the best FF protagonist ever in my opinion. Cecils' journey from a black knight to a paladin is quite fascinating.

It's a toss-up between IV and VII. I love everything about both of them.

FF VI, I have never played it but it symbolize old RPG makers games on which I grew up. This could be said be of course said about other awesome SNES RPGs such as Chrono Trigger or Secrets of Mana but this is FF thread.

Close run contest between FF7 and FF9 for me.

But my a very narrow margin I'll go for FF9. I fell in love with the world of 9, would just wonder around as I simply enjoyed being there. Zidane is perhaps my favourite of the FF protagonists, even if he is a little monkey boy. And who can forget Eiko, the unsung hero of 9.

Also 9 has Vamo' alla Flamenco, best song out of all the FF games to me. Check out the black mages version on youtube, you wont regret it.

I don't have favorites really, I really like FFVII, FFVI and Tactics, I guess in the grand scheme of things I like Tactics the best because I've played it most, great story, fantastic amazing scene fitting music, great artstyle.

Final fantasy 9. It was the first one I played. In my opinion it had the best story, the best characters and it had the best music. As much as I love One Winged Angel, I think that this is the best Boss music of the series.
