Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Well this is my first thread, so bear with me.

I was in another thread discussing the possibility of a Final Fantasy XIII sequel. But it got me thinking that Square Enix talks about making said direct sequel, FFXIV, or other stuff they attained the rights to recently (for example things like Just Cause 2), but never anything about Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It truly seems to me like they forgot they even announced it in the first place. It even seems like lots of regular folks have forgotten about it entirely. I haven't heard anything about Versus since its announcement, yet I thought that XIII and Versus were announced at the same time or somewhere very near each other, if I remember correctly. And if that is so, that's a really long time for development. I'm just curious what other members make of this.

I kinda feel like it may have been a bit of talk that might not see the light of day. I was actually really excited about playing both games around the same time to get the most out of the intertwining stories.

I'm more excited for Versus than I was about 13 if that answers your question.

I'm pretty sure its scheduled for a 3rd quarter 2010 release.

It was announced at the same time but was always going to be released after XIII. There have been update reports about the game and newer trailers every so often and you should check out the official site. And yeah i cant wait for it, looks pretty awesome.

Its a game set in the same universe as XIII but unrelated storywise, its being made by the same people as kingdom hearts and is more hack and slash than XII, also its a ps3 exclusive.

God, I remember when they announced that FFXIII was being released for the 360...Fanchildren are funny.

Anyway, since virtually nothing is known about VS XIII (aside from the setting), I couldn't really give two shits about it (at this point).

If the battle system comes over in the sequel, I'm totally game.

I love the fighting in this FF more than any other FF I've ever played.

I've discovered why the "auto-fighting" AI system is so amazing. You still control the fight with Paradigms, and you can with your actions if you want. Its usually not necessary unless you wanna do manual healing, which I do not recommend unless you need "omg heal heal heal", even then its better if the CPU does it. The game has such intelligent combat AI, and the enemies so wicked, especially late game, that if you aren't on your toes there, you either lose the fight or get a crummy/no reward.

I just hope they buff the Summons for any sequel, they aren't very useful in combat. Maybe if they were capable of staggering enemies (which they don't see to be able too in my experience), even if the summon left the moment the enemy became staggered, it would be SOMETHING.

It looks like Final Fantasy meets the Yakuza.

I'm intrigued about how they go about this. If this is the same world, does it take place in Cocoon or some other planet they're going to pretend is somehow linked to the Cocoon/Pulse world.

I thought Vs was supposed to be released about the same time as XIII as part of the the Crystallum Agito series thingy.
But you're right, haven't heard hide nor hair of it since.

Just one of the many reasons I'm glad I own both consoles. I wonder if 360 will get an exclusive. Would it even be able to fit an exclusive on it without having like 6 discs?

I'm playing 13 still so I don't need 13 Versus. It would be nice if it was released some time soon although I think I heard they're not releasing any FF games next year because of 13 and 14 release this year. That could be another developer I'm thinking of but I think it is SE.

Yeah i'm the same with having a pc and a ps3 since most of the games i want are out on one or the other. I don't think the xbox will get an exclusive since i see versus as being a kind of apology or a concession to the ps3 for not having FFXIII exclusively anymore. But i guess anything is possible.
