I thought FF7 was found on Steam a long time ago?

As far as I can recall they've had files on their servers for a long time, I'm going to try and dig up the information now.

Edit: Found it.

We know, it's cruel. Square Enix has hidden role-playing classics Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII in the depths of Valve's Steam service - but hasn't mentioned any intention of making them available for download.

The Final Fantasy fans at RPGsite got their hands on a Steam registry toolkit and cracked open a few files, eventually finding a 'Content Description Record' which lists all the games that are on Valve's servers.
Nestled in the long list of title are Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VIII content. Both titles have been previously released on the PC and are known for being notoriously shoddy ports that crash computers and break hearts.

Attempts to stabilise them by the Final Fantasy community have been largely unsuccessful so unless Square Enix is planning to pump some money into fixing them it's unlikely they'll show up on Steam as anything other than their current intangible forms.

You never know though, there might be a chance...
This was from 2011.

Honest, I wouldn't buy a re-release unless it has been changed in many ways. A couple of new features is just a cute way to say you've basically changed nearly nothing of your game, and you want fans to buy it for quick cash.
I'd buy FFVII if they were to redo the graphics! Fix their bugs (almost nobody fixes bugs in re-releases) and add some meaningful features. Not just an extra artwork gallery.

I heard about this earlier today. I'm more likely to believe that microsoft is giving away an eight processor xbox 720 than this.

No, it means it will use steam cloud. I suspect you know that anyway.
He was making a joke...

Also I doubt Square will do anything for FFIX. No that would say "We love our fans!" and that is something game companies these days do not know how to say. Anyways My first FFVII disk is damaged. it freezes where you jump off the train at the beginning... Would probably get this.

Interesting.

My first disc has been damaged for...a while. Can play it up to where you meet Cid, if you haven't changed out the disc with another during a cutscene by then, it freezes midway through one there.

Might pick this up for nostalgia's sake, especially considering it's rather cheap.

I was actually intending on getting the ol' PS1 this summer and playing through the old Final Fantasys....now I don't have to!*
If they did this with FF6 - 9 that would be tremendous.

*Well, one of them at least.
If you have a Wii you can get FF6 at the Wii market. But, I'm guessing you don't have a Wii.
Oh can you?

I have a Wii but I very, very rarely use it apart from the occasional Smash Bros games with friends...
May look in to that though. Thanks.
And FFVII to IX are on PSN...

I'd personally more excited if they made an updated version of IX, i just like it a lot more than VII.

I've actually got a physical PS1 copy if I want to do that. I tried the PC version because I wanted the graphical mods. It's pretty awesome to have all the chibi character models replaced with ones with normal proportions.
There are some people who mod these (I actually found a rebalanced version of FF Tactics somewhere.) Not sure about FF7 but one can hope.

Yeah I know. Unfortunately I don't have a PS3. For a little while I was tempted to buy one just for that. If the FFX remake is amazing then I will...

same reason I got the pc version, to install all the graphic mods, but the game is still a swine to play at times though the hardcore mod is pretty fun. Especially that 1st battle of the game with the 2 troopers that just took off an 1/8th of my health each!?!

I'd probably get the steam version a little while after release to see if there have been improvements made on any bugs, the music, see if there are graphics mods that can be applied and what 'extra' features there are.

Wonder if it'll be better graphics? (if it's legit...)
I most likely won't get it, I have it on the PSP at the minute.

The character booster is an interesting perk, as stated in the image ?Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure?.
Is that cheating, or am I missing something? :s

Ooo, achievements :3

I'll be looking into this for sure. Though I'd have preferred FF8, since 7 is nuts in comparison.
Waitwaitwait...

VII is nuts compared to VIII?!!?!?!?

;P I'm kidding around, btw, I love both games.

IX is on PSN.

Seeing as there were only PC versions of VII and VIII, I doubt we'll see IX released on a PC gaming platform anytime soon.

*ahem*

...yeah, I'd buy this. If it does come out on Steam and it's going to work on a Windows 7-running laptop, then yeah, I think that's a done deal. I mean, it's not like I don't already own the damn thing on PS1 and PSP anyway. At least it's at a reasonable price.

Actually, as much as I like this game, if Square-Enix go through with this, I do hope they release some of the others. Classics like Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VIII and especially IX all deserve more love and re-releases (never mind the fact that IV's been re-released about, what, 5? times already).
Sorry, it will only work for Win 7 desktops.

IX moves at a snails pace, it was too slow 12 years ago when it was released and it's way too slow now.

Nah, gonna leave it for the fanboys and nostalgia junkies to snack on. I'd actually be surprised to hear of anyone who didn't play it back then picking up a copy.
