This was from 2011.link above said:We know, it's cruel. Square Enix has hidden role-playing classics Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII in the depths of Valve's Steam service - but hasn't mentioned any intention of making them available for download.
The Final Fantasy fans at RPGsite got their hands on a Steam registry toolkit and cracked open a few files, eventually finding a 'Content Description Record' which lists all the games that are on Valve's servers.
Nestled in the long list of title are Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VIII content. Both titles have been previously released on the PC and are known for being notoriously shoddy ports that crash computers and break hearts.
Attempts to stabilise them by the Final Fantasy community have been largely unsuccessful so unless Square Enix is planning to pump some money into fixing them it's unlikely they'll show up on Steam as anything other than their current intangible forms.
You never know though, there might be a chance...

And FFVII to IX are on PSN...JWRosser said:Oh can you?XcrossX said:If you have a Wii you can get FF6 at the Wii market. If they did this with FF6 - 9 that would be tremendous.
*Well, one of them at least.
I have a Wii but I very, very rarely use it apart from the occasional Smash Bros games with friends...
May look in to that though. Thanks.
There are some people who mod these (I actually found a rebalanced version of FF Tactics somewhere.) Not sure about FF7 but one can hope.Owyn_Merrilin said:I've actually got a physical PS1 copy if I want to do that. I tried the PC version because I wanted the graphical mods. It's pretty awesome to have all the chibi character models replaced with ones with normal proportions.
Yeah I know. Unfortunately I don't have a PS3. For a little while I was tempted to buy one just for that. If the FFX remake is amazing then I will...Solo-Wing said:And FFVII to IX are on PSN...JWRosser said:Oh can you?XcrossX said:If you have a Wii you can get FF6 at the Wii market. same reason I got the pc version, to install all the graphic mods, but the game is still a swine to play at times though the hardcore mod is pretty fun. Especially that 1st battle of the game with the 2 troopers that just took off an 1/8th of my health each!?!Owyn_Merrilin said:I've actually got a physical PS1 copy if I want to do that. Is that cheating, or am I missing something? :sThe character booster is an interesting perk, as stated in the image ?Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure?.

I'll be looking into this for sure. Though I'd have preferred FF8, since 7 is nuts in comparison.

Also I doubt Square will do anything for FFIX. No that would say "We love our fans!" and that is something game companies these days do not know how to say. Anyways My first FFVII disk is damaged. it freezes where you jump off the train at the beginning... Would probably get this.
Sorry, it will only work for Win 7 desktops.EscapeGoat said:ASHSDLGJSDGKJS
*ahem*
...yeah, I'd buy this. If it does come out on Steam and it's going to work on a Windows 7-running laptop, then yeah, I think that's a done deal. I mean, it's not like I don't already own the damn thing on PS1 and PSP anyway. At least it's at a reasonable price.
Actually, as much as I like this game, if Square-Enix go through with this, I do hope they release some of the others. Classics like Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VIII and especially IX all deserve more love and re-releases (never mind the fact that IV's been re-released about, what, 5? times already).
