I started playing video games during the sixth generation of consoles (PS2, Gamecube, Xbox), and my first console was a PS2. Now I have that same PS2, a Wii, and an Xbox 360.

I've heard a lot of good things about Final Fantasy VII, and I thought about getting it. But I've found it's practically made of unobtanium. According to Wikipedia, it's sold nearly 10 million copies around the world. It would seem such a popular game would have some attainable copies, but Amazon is charging an arm and $100, and ebay is just full of memory cards and strategy guides.

Am I looking in the wrong places, or is this game really that valuable now?

And no, I don't have a PS3 or a PSP, so I can't download it on the Playstation Network.

A used platinum edition is dirt cheap. I just found one on Amazon for 15 quid.

EDIT: And realising you're American, get an import copy perhaps, if Amazon do so (which they should, as they have internationall sellers).

It's crazy how that game's market value skyrocketed in the last few years. I had a copy that I bought for $13 in 1999 or so and just recently sold it on eBay for $71.

Yeah, this doesn't help you at all. Sorry. Just grit your teeth and pay the price.

Just look for it in Amazon.com. There should be new and used copies for sale.

You could always download the game off a ROM site and play it with a playstation emulator. Since you don't have a PS3 or PSP this would be the best way for you to play if your not anal about the whole emulator issue. That or just keep looking for it, I actually saw an original copy at my EB for 10 bucks, woulda bought it but that would be more for sentiment than playing as I lack a PS1.

Still have my copy.

Too bad you haven't already opted for a PS3. They recently added FFVII to the PS Classics available on PSN. Personally I opt for VI first, since VII pretty much shadows the game.

You seem to lack one of the current-gen handheld, may I suggest you get a PSP instead, so you can play both the masterpiece that FF7: Crisis Core is, and FF7 :)

I wouldn't suggest that, it can get you into trouble on here.

Eh I'm pretty sure I would only get into trouble mentioning emulators if I provided links/sources. People have mentioned such things (I my self have said it dozens of times) and nothing bad happened. Oh well was just throwing in my two cents.

They don't charge all that much on Ebay if you look hard enough.

Edit - Oh, look, I found one for a fraction of the price of the others:

No used game is worth more than 50% of the original price. Of course, some idiots are willing to pay any amount of money for an outdated game just because the internet says it's "the best ever".

I agree with the person that said to emulate it if you really want to play.

I bought my copy (Err...copies? Multiple discs and all that) back in...early 2000 or so. I lucked out though. A guy I knew was selling most of his games and consoles...so, I picked up FFVII for about ten bucks. It's good to know people.

I forgot to bring this up in my last post, however I wanted to give the advice that you should avoid the FF7 PC copy at all costs. Outside of maybe Shadow Madness, I have never played a game so incredibly bug-filled. It was so bad that no one I had ever come across with a copy was able to beat it due to the game irreversibly crashing before the last battle.

There were also issues with the first release of FF7 for the PS1. They were crammed for the due-date and speedily made thousands of copies. The result was random crashing and game disks that refused to work. Back in the day when the PS1 first came out and I attained a copy, I had disk 1 die at the end of it right before it was supposed to let me put disk 2 in. I had to go through two other friends, one of whom had a disk 3 that didn't work whatsoever, to successfully play it. You will not have this problem with the 'Greatest Hits' version.

Hmm, I have played the PC version without any flaw, guess i was lucky. But yes, be very weary of the PC version. Based off of hearsay I is buggy and despises windows XP.
