Final fantasy XI Or XIV?

Yo cats and kittens, as I?m sure you all can appreciate final fantasy (7,8 and 9) hold a special place in my heart and conger up many a happy child hood memory of wonder and aw...

However every other Final fantasy game thus far has left me hart broken and a little bit bitter (lookin at you FF X but thats a rant for another time.) FF 13 however (while i?m still currently playing it, so still time to screw it up yet) I have to say I?m really enjoying and may just restore some of my faith in the series.

Any way on to my point, I love my MMO?s: Wow is safe, it?s the standard but I?ve played it for so long it feels bland just now (even with cat coming out.) Was thinking of the new Final Fantasy XIV however every review I?ve read gave it a big old ?F**K YOU!!? back in 2004 I think I did play FFXI but that was years ago. Is it worth giving FFXIV a shot (i.e can anyone recommend it?) and if not how well is FF XI doing and dose the old bird still have any life left in her after all these years?

I'd say get the trail of FFXIV. it gets a ton of hate but i love it but its for a very niche type of MMO gamer. So try the trail.

I'm not a big MMO player. The only one I ever played was FFXI. And I did enjoy it, till I started to realize that there were areas that I couldn't even walk through as a lvl 75 (the max lvl for those who don't know) and live. And I'm not even talking about end game areas. There were early areas that had monsters that max lvl players couldn't expect to solo. I think it was exemplified when I talked to some people in a group about how I couldn't even solo Easy Prey enemies and a Black Mage replied that he couldn't even solo Too Weak enemies. It really started to become annoying.

Still, I have fond memories of the game. And party dynamics were excellent!

Personally, I've heard so many bad things about FFXIV, I largely wrote it off my list of games. The idea of changing classes whenever you want sounded very cool, but if the system is broken, what's the point? The only MMO I'm currently eying is Star Wars: The Old Republic.

haha and so the FF wars begin. 8 shall allways be my personal Fav, I still to this day wear my lionhart pendant and abby shot squall jaket (yes it cost me £300 but tottaly worth it!!) although to be fair i know it's nistalga that blinds me, if i was to play 8 again as an adult and not a moody anxst riden teen it probbely wouldn't rank that hight. but for now Squalls still a child hood hero next to tommy the while ranger XD

12 i just didn't get into... i tryed... just didn't exsite me in any way, (same with lost oddisy, to really mix things up...)Although i didn't realise FF XVI had a triel... not the easist of web sites to navogate i'll have another look.

Alright man you got me there. I like 8 i think its okay. Am not gonna lie i love everygame. I just hate the elitest attitude. Some of the annoying thngs that bugged me of the top of my head though. Spoilers!!!

why is the seed exam fighting some crazy monster in the fire cave? like is this standard for all seeds? Do they get multiple of this monster how do they maintain them?

When your planning to take out the sorceress why does irving take on the job? Hes the only one who remembers there past he knows he was raised by her. Why doesn't he mention he cant do it cause hes conflicted? Why dosent he tell the entire party? what the hell!

How could Headmaster cid ever trust norg? The dudes crazy how could anyone trust him? The dude is always yelling in all caps and just looks like a more obvious of a villain they Seymour from FF10.

How could squal ever survive the attack from the sorceress? It was like 3 giant ice needles right in his chest then falling how many several feet? unless your following the theory "Sqaul is dead (Google it its very intresting its actually a great way to explain the game) then he would have died.

I have more i could think of so just ask if you want more. Every FF game has flaws i just see 8 having the most plot flaws. The gameplay system was great. I just found FF13 to be My favorite of the series.

Here's my opinion, and this is coming from someone who beta'd FFXIV and played endless years of WoW:

FFXIV has great concepts, it looks better then any other MMO if your computer can run it on highest settings, and the class system allows you to mix skills from other classes into your currently selected class. You can essentially have all classes leveled on only 1 character, and use skills from each (within limit) on whichever one you choose. Allows for a lot of customization and that ''unique character'' feel to a degree.

Downsides are, it's laggy, a bit buggy, and Square haven't implemented a lot of features that have turned most people who play it off until they're otherwise fixed. There's no auction house system, instead there is another system in which you hire someone to sell items for you in designated areas, but there is no way to 'search' said areas, or there wasn't a month ago. Your items that you wear stay in your inventory, rather then you know, not...this makes inventory is a pain, and there is no way of searching or sorting it either (but that's being addresses from what I remember in this months update) the UI is archaic, very slow in terms of selling stuff, selecting stuff and that sort of thing. Also, it's mostly grind and crafting. They have not released a whole lot of story or juicy bits aside from the general gameplay, so it's not as captivating content wise. In many ways, it took many steps backward from XI, and many forward.


While it's a different game, I personally didn't find it worth sticking around to, not until they fix it anyways. :/

yeah thats about what evey review said, i think what i was trying to work out was has (or will) XIV kill off XI or are the majoraty of players sticking with XI and might kill off XIV if it's as bad as people say?

You think 8 is bad. Okay that's fine. You think it's bad because of it's plot problems? Sure that's understandable. But how can you say that 8 has plot problems whilst at the same time saying 10 is a good game? Seriously out of the FF games I've seen, 10 is easily the worst of the bunch. So many problems with that game, and it honestly baffles me that anyone can say it has a good plot.

I'm not an FF 8 fanboy, I hate that game to. But I'd say 10 is just as bad, if not worse, when it comes to the plot.

haha yeah i have agree you do need suspend your disbelife a bit but ask your self this... personaly if for my final exsam i had to fight a gient fire mosten in a cave ranther than wright 16 pages on antigony in school.... well ones certanly more exsiting. again i love it but i was 12 when i played it... my happy child hood memorys are safly locked away

ALTHOUGH 13 (so far) is really really good (in fact if you where to take nastalga out of the equation i'd rank it better than 8 as an adult playing it) i love the charictor development and it's keeping me hooked and engaged witch ANY good game should do!

I don't play MMOs at all, but I heard XIV was just bad. It lacked many features that it should've had at launch and it seems like Square Enix rushed a game again just so they could get some easy sales. Take the Valve and Polyphony way of developing games and take your time to ensure a good experience for your audience. You're one of the largest Third Party Developers ever SE, you shouldn't have any excuses.

Meh, it depends. Auron has a much better connection to Jecht than Tidus, who has little more than daddy problems because Jecht was so pissed his manly loins produced such a whiny loser and tried to make him manlier.

Trying to clam the FF wars here. Personaly to me The final fantasy Game are like modren fairy tailes and as sutch i have (exstreamly high) standers and criteria that they must meet. For me, a FF game should make you want to live in that world! Make you want to BE one of the chars... as a 12 year old I wanted to be just like squall when i was 17! i know it's kinda fallen by the way side but 9 was another world that just captured my imaganation and swept me away.

any in meany ways that was 10, (again peronly) let me down. the intro was EPIC that futristic city! I'd Want to live there! however the rest of the game felt like beeing on an ok beach holaday. ok it was nice but did'n really capture my imagonation.

I think thats the reason i want to try the FF MMOs cos if any thing i am picing a world to live in, metaphoricaly speaking. thats my thought on the subject any way
