Acording to Destructoid and Eurogamer, FFXII HD is to be released in 2017 and will be based on International Version of the game. It will also feature Auto-Save system and something cslled "Turbo mode".

Well, colour me interested. I never finished FFXII, so maybe I'll get my chance with it.

My only concern is that for now it is announced for PS4 only. I don't have this console now and I don't know if I'll have one in 2017. However, knowing Square Enix, They'll probably announce a PC version (and maybe PS3/Vita versions) sometime in the future.

Basch lives! Don't believe Ondore's lies!

Yeah, I'd totally be getting this, if I owned a PS4. A PS3/Vita or PC release would be nice. I'm glad my favourite Final Fantasy game is getting the HD treatment.

It was only a matter of time before this happened. Eventually I believe FF13 will get a super HD release. Square has run out of faith with their FF games and are re-releasing games because they know they can make money on things with fairly low risk investment. Notice how out of all of these games, FF7 is the only one getting a full blown remake.

I am glad, as I never got to really play FFXII to the fullest and since there was a lot of content I didn't get to see because of the International version being JP only, I will be excited to see the true depth of the game.

I just really hope FF15 is good. Ten years of development, and yet there is fairly little hype for it. I remember getting super excited to hear about a new FF game. Now I am more excited to hear about old FF games getting re-released than I am for the newest installment. Anyone else feel like there is something wrong with that?

Oh, for the love of... they'll drown Steam in FF13 sequels and Android ports of the single digit games, but when it comes to the only Final Fantasy I've never played and I'm kind of interested in, they pull this shit.

Fuck you, Square. With the wide end of a rake.

I don't think that anyone needs to worry. I mean, it's Square Enix. They'll keep it on PS4 for maybe a few months and then BOOM PC (and maybe PS3/Vita)release.

Yo, listen to K, man. He's spot on. FF 10 HD just made it's way to Steam, so did Type-0. Hell, even the teasers for the FFVII remake say 'play it on PS4 first' not 'only on PS4', and FF15 is both XB1 and PS4. There's money to be made on PC, Square won't ignore that.

I have been asking for this for years. Could not be more exited, though I wish it was coming for Vita as well.

Not surprised but after FF2 it is my least favourite FF game. I finished it after 127 hours beating all the bosses and to be fair after FFX I think it has the best end game in any FF but just up to that point was painful.

Good for those who do like it though I am just not sure how good it will look the art direction was particularly weak in this instalment imo. Must admit though with the exception of VII which I love I have not bothered to get the HD upgrades of any FF games even the others I like a lot like X or the updated version of IV.

I just hope this comes to PC. I didn't get to play it originally, but it sounds like it does away with a lot of what I hate about most Final Fantasy games while still keeping a solid foundation. Basically, it sounds like a Final Fantasy game I may fall in love with.

Or it is the fact that they have one of the longest running series in video game history and have entered an age where doing HD remasters is popular. Combine that with lengthy development time for new games, and of course the remasters will stand out more.

Give it six months and you'll get it.

Are HD Remasters truly that popular? Or are people simply rebuying games that they know are good because this latest gaming generation has had very few real gems in a sea of mediocre tripe?

Also you cannot that FFVX's development cycle as the standard. It does not take ten years to make a game, even one as big as a Final Fantasy game. Hell even The Witcher 3 only had a 3.5 year development time. Square-Enix has been devoting time and money into pumping out these re-releases at a very rapid clip. We've gotten FFX, X-2, VI, IX, and now XII, all within the span of a couple of years. Yet how many times has FFXV been pushed back and pushed back.

Look I'm glad for it all. I've been able to collect almost every FF game on a single platform (Steam), and that's great because I often find myself replaying these games. Hell I play FF7 at least once every 18 months, and like I said before, I look forward to being able to play a different and updated version of XII.

Also Final Fantasy doesn't even make the Top 25 in the list of longest running video game series/franchises.

I was talking more from the publisher's perspective than the player's perspective. I'd imagine players would prefer to have new experiences, but right now, publishers seem to prefer giving them old ones.

I wasn't talking specifically about FFXV. That was extreme by any standard. However, a brand new game takes much longer to make than remastering an old one. With the old one, you sort of already know most of where the story, level design, and mechanics are headed, and if you're lucky, you'll have a ton of the older assets still available. While a brand new game probably doesn't start entirely from scratch, there's still a ton more uncertainty about how things will work and what will need to change over the course of development. This can give it a comparatively long development time, especially when the publisher recognizes the problem and is willing to fix it or put it on life support rather than keep it.

One question. What is the difference between the international version and the regular version? And how much better/worst is it?

Well, PSP has War of the Lions and Dragon Quest 8 is coming to 3DS. Not HD, but eh, that's probably as good as we're going to get.

There was a completely different progression system in the international version as well as some extra content with more hunts and harder bosses. Stuff the U.S. release never saw.

Oh ffs, perhaps it's because the games were released on older console generation that's not available to play in general use. Ports are usually the better alternative for when people don't want (or even cant due to the high specs required) to use emulators for many reasons.

FTR This is a good thing for the gaming industry. Reviving old games for the new generation of gamers to play is nothing to spit at. Not only that it appears there are extra goodies for nostalgic gamers.

In the original version all six of your main characters start out as practically blank slates skills-wise, and you get to build them however you want. For various reasons many found this unreasonably prone to unviable character builds, which would then have to be amended with a whole lot of grinding. Even when it doesn't come to that, the way all six characters have the exact same skill "tree" makes them highly susceptible to developing in nigh identical ways. Pretty boring if you ask me. The international zodiac edition was an attempt by Square-Enix to rectify all that by adding actual classes ("jobs" in final fantasy lingo) to the game. Twelve of them, supposedly based on the signs of the zodiac somehow. Despite the name however, up until now it was exclusive to Japan. Barring imports and unofficial translation patches that is.

I have not played the zodiac edition so I can't speak to its merits directly. I have played the original version though, and based on that I would say you probably want the zodiac edition all right. I mean, I found myself cursing that damned license board (the skill tree) before I even knew of this zodiac edition's existence. Go figure.

OT: huh. If it comes to PC I just might bite... For reasons touched on above I never finished it after all, and it's not like I'd be buying it twice because the first time around I merely borrowed it. Add to that some improved graphics and no longer having to break out the ol' playstation 2... Not a bad proposition.
