you get all these cool swords and shields. a shirt for vaan would have been most appropiate. (especially on the snowy mountain during a blizzard >_>)

No sorry but twelve wasn't underappreciated if it was anything i would say its overrated. Critics alike where giving the game high praise despite the game being a total shit stain to the final fantasy name. Almost everything was changed for the worst and i made the game seem like just a boring grindfest (like most mmo's actually which was what final fantasy 12 was trying to be) add that to a bland unintresting characters made it one of the worst final fantasy games ever made (well at least it was better than 10 part 2).

I would say either final fantasy 5 or 8 is underappreciated.

Final fantasy 5 because it had great gameplay under a mediocre storyline and Final fantasy 8 because many people didn't like it because of the overly complicated battle system. Which if you stick to itt actually as bad as you might think. Final fantasy 8 indeed has its flaws but i personally think it had the best art direction, music and story of all the games.

Plus you couldn't really hate triple traid even if you tryed. That minigames was addictive like crack.
Oh no.

People like V how is it under appreciated

Also

FF8. Good Story. Obviously we weren't playing the same game. Because the FF8 I played had a contrived and bullshit story, with a horribifuckus love story, and not to mention the stupidest ending ever.

How stupid?

Ultimecia's goal is to compress time, Squall COMPRESSES TIME FOR HER AND THEN PUTS HER POWERS INTO EDEA! creating a stable time loop which means YOU ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING!
Like i said final fantasy 8 had its flaws. Even with its plothole infested storyline it managed to be the best overall for me. People say oh final fantasy 6 or 7 had the best storyline but that really just boiled down to a bad guy trying to destroy the world. At least final fantasy 8 shaked things up in that regard with the whole goverment corruption and the like. But i do get what you mean the storyline didn't make sense in some points like the whole blackout thing that squall and his friends experienced. I think what im trying to say is that it is my opinion and is very debatable and if you didn't like final fantasy 8 storyline thats fine. I know alot of people who didn't but hey i guess im strange like that.

Sorry, but that honor has to go IX, which, for my money, is almost up there with VII and X. It just had a ridiculously enjoyable atmosphere and its characters were some of the most charming I've ever seen in ANY game, let alone a Final Fantasy title.

Evidence of Government corruption in FF before FF8

FF2: The entire inner politics of the Empire
FF3: Prince Avis or whatever his name is Kingdom, as well as the three apprentices
FF4: The Baron Royalty corruption
FF5: The Water and Fire kingdoms both suffered from Greed and possession
FF6: The EMPIRE the various political players like Figaro and Narshe
FF7: Are you kidding me? Midgar, Shinra Corperation?

And after FF8 we had Queen Brahne, Garland and Kuja for FF9 and Seymore not to mention the whole religious manipulation of Bevelle, and FFXII was based on political story telling.

and FF8 boiled down to big bad sorceress wanting to compress time to control/destroy the wordl, which she accomplished because Squall did it for her.

I'm sorry but you can't just say "That's my opinion" you entered a public forum, you said something, prepare to be scrutinized

EDIT: Oh wait, FF1: The entire Elfland debacle, not to mention the reason Garland left the kingdom

Please...

You sell IX way to short, it's one of the top 3 Final Fantasy's depending on what your looking for.

Honestly? It's my favorite. I get nostalgia wiggles every time I look at it.

Subjectively? It falls apart a little bit towards the end. But the whole first disc is flat-out RPG perfection.

See I forgive the 'falls a bit in the 4th disk' because we got this scene.

This scene is one of my favorite video game scenes of all time, atmosphere, build up, conclusion

I thought that was the major flaw as well since it's a major thing I like about a lot of Western RPGs; customizing your character's appearance with new gear.

Of course, not being able to change your appearance has the advantage that you focus on gear that's effective and not on gear that looks awesome. :)

The most underappreciated Final Fantasy, or the flat-out worst? I guess it's a matter of opinion (though mine is better than yours).

I have my reasons, but they've all been explained quite well in the posts above me.

I loved FFXII. the battle system was fluid, the storyline was interesting, the areas were huge, and it had so many sidequests (I love sidequests), probably beacuse it had so many towns (towns are also cool). My only problem with it was the character development. Neither Vaan nor Penelo really change over the game, and they dont really contribute anything. They just exist, with all the importance of a random NPC in terms of the story. I did like the other characters though, they were interesting.

If you look at FFXIII, the battle system is staggered, as you have to go into a different screen for battles, the storylinewas genreic and predictable, the areas were narrow because you were just supposed to walk from one end to another. There was no sidequests and no towns. As for character development, they were all kind of boring. Also, im pretty sure Pulse is Australia

Im pretty sure i should play FFIX lest I be killed by its fans

Pulse is uninteresting and linear, Australia is a technicolour place of weirdness

you can but it does take a while.
most of them at least....the quattro of weird headhunters were supposed to follow you if that's what you meant. and you were supposed to run.
I never got past the fire boss thing in the sewers...

It was some weird bird thing that I couldn't be bothered to fight. But it ended up following me for the whole dungeon map.

LOLOLOL That was a boss! Wait you meant the horse thing right?

i'll probably be hated for this but I also didn't like that they got rid of the romantic sub-plot. I just heard they got rid of it though, i've only gotten 50 hours in so i may just not have seen it yet. still, I liked those parts in the other FF games.

I liked FFXII.
It's not as good as X or IX, imo, but still great.
Except for Vaan.
He's utterly useless as a protagonist.
He basically just 'tags along', being childish and annoying all the way through.
Any of the other characters would be a better protagonist.
Or why could they not just have his brother, Reks, survive?
That way, you'd have a protagonist that actually has a motive that's not 'I WUNNA B A SKY PIRATE!!1".
Vaan is the worst FF protagonist ever.

I hated it....i still finished it and played it alot....but i hated it.

I kept expecting it to finally pay off,but the story was overly complex and boring, the characters were never expanded on,the game was way too facking hard.
(I like a challenge but the fact that if you died it took you straight back to the menu was insanely annoying)

I now realise how confusing my statement was...

I meant I never got past the Horse thing.

What annoyed me was a weird bird thing earlier in the level that wouldn't stop following me.

I didn't make it clear but my two sentences were relatively unconnected.

Im sure you said something else before I refreshed. Now im questioning my sanity. Also, Fang and Vanille both sound Australian, Pulse is a large, mostly uninhabited land filled with deadly creatures. Sounds like Australia to me.

Vaan is the worst FF protagonist ever.
That wasn't his motivation though. At least it wasn't supposed to be, his motivation was "I want to know my place in the world" then right after that the game was derailed into Balthiers excellent adventure until the end. Schizophrenic character focus everybody.

Yet saying that I agree with you that Vaan was a bad protagonist, because the writers did not want to put any effort into him, Watch this is off the top of my head.

So Vaan is this 12 year old kid who's stuck looking after orphans day in and day out, they have no family or guardians and in an act of desperation Vaan breaks into the Palace to steal treasure to sell, at least then he can feed them. While at the Palace it is attacked by Archadia (first invasion) and he runs into a young Balthier and Fran, both starting there careers as Sky Pirates and a little green. They grab the runt and run for there lives escaping.

As Vaan looks down upon his burning city Balthier takes pity on him, giving him a chance to live and train as a Pirate under him. Skip 9 years later to the main game, Vaan is 21 a Sky Pirate and Balthier is his established game self, Fran is a whole other story.

They've come back to steal the treasure they left behind all those years ago.

That was off the top of my head

Very much agreed. XI was very masterful, the 4th is disk goes a little sour but you get so much out the tail end that it makes up for it. Yet people really don't reconigize as a great one of the series.

Personally, My favorite would be VII, followed by VI and XI, followed by FFT if that counts.
I wasn't such a fan of X. :/
