Nope. And probably won't ever own it, to be honest.
Same here. Granted, my store wasn't doing a midnight release but I did see it while working at like...3. Not quite the same I guess. Played the demo and all that did was re-awaken an old hatred in the original 13 so that one can just go...just...go.
What didn't you like - the 15h tutorial, or was it too linear/and 'lifeless' until you reached the Grand Pulse?
Because that's what I didn't like and they changed it in XIII-2.
I actually made it to Grand Pulse and it wasn't enough to make the game better for me. I thought Final Fantasy XIII was absolutely beautiful but what I didn't like was how artificial the game part of the game was. Sure, the game isn't always linear but walking around a map is only a part of it. The combat is what really broke the deal for me: yes, it's visceral and in constant motion but it's always like that no matter what you, the player, do. You don't have any control over where your one playable character walks, even though s/he moves around as much as someone suffering from fleas.
The plot is also really, really poorly done. It wasn't that you had a 15-20 hour tutorial, you have a 15-20 hour introduction and even then I can't recall if there was a main bad guy or, over-arching
thing everyone was striving for (other than Lightning's sister). Finally, I've seen the level progression system done before and, better in Final Fantasy X. That is to say, I don't remember Final Fantasy X capping your level until you defeat boss X or, reach the end of chapter Y.
