Final Fantasy XIII-2: The Next FFX-2?

As most people will agree, final fantasy x-2 was crap. Continuing the universe of any given final fantasy game has only worked well once (not including the tactics franchise) and that was crisis core. And for all the faults FFX had, it was better than 13, so will 13-2 be worse than 10-2, or will they pull a miracle?

Personally, i expect it to suck. The characters of FFXIII annoyed me to no end, and i couldnt play for more than 10 hours before i got sick of them and the linear corridors. I expect FFXIII-2 to suck, but what do the escapists think?

Considering FFX is nothing like FFXIII, you can't really compare FFX-2 to FFXIII-2.

It has a pretty good chance of sucking, a lot of people will hate it instantly for what it is, I don't think it'll get many good reviews.

But hey, maybe they'll pull something amazing out of thin air and we'll get a good FF game.

The problem is, XIII was easily one of the worst Final Fantasy games (in the main series, it was probably the worst). X-2 was bad because it's flaws outweighed it's pros, and took away the characterisation (and characters) of X. Plus, it was mostly fanservice.

XIII, on the other hand, had virtually no pros aside from cutscenes being very pretty. XIII-2 will hold even less weight. It will be terrible.

TRAVESTY! No one liked FF13 so what the hell are they thinking making a sequel! No-one liked Kane & Lynch so they made a sequel... and it sucked. This is bone headed and am super angry their more recent effort will now go into THAT tripe instead of a new game.

I never said it couldnt be good, i just doubt it. And they can be compared as they are the only continuations of a main lineage final fantasy, and my thought as far as the story is that they dont have a very easy time pulling another full story out of the original universe. Gameplay wise, FFXIII sucked miserably. Unintuitive combat that you had little control over, uninteresting looting, and hours upon hours of linear corridors... Oh the corridors!
As far as the "bad reviews" thing, dont forget that 13 got plenty of good reviews regardless of how bad it was. Hell, Ign gave X-2 a 9.5! For Shame IGN!

I couldn't possibly make an educated guess on how good this game will be.

Final Fantasy X-2 is never given the credit it deserves. It's a good, not great game that's criminally under-rated because it's not as good FFX. It's sort of like the anti-Final Fantasy VII.

I agree. Just pretend it's not a Final Fantasy and people would say it was great. These games are getting hate for no reason, and theres ZERO point trying to judge if this coming game will be bad, you won't know till it hits.

At this point, seeing as we know nothing of what they are doing with FF13-2, I say it's a 50-50 chance it'll be as bad as FF10-2(Or just bad in general). Just to point out the obvious thing that most people seem to be missing.

So them bassically creating new charecters, battle systems, and just in general, completely new games for pretty much all of the FF games doesn't count as new?

Well, I didn't play 13, so I know jack about it...
However, I have heard it is crap and Square-Enix is NOT good with direct sqeuels, unless it has something to do with FF7.

I, like many was looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII as X-2 was crap (althrough I played all of it so I could get the tidus ending) and Final Fantasy XII was just return of the jedi with different characters but when I finaly played it I hated it. personaly I think the gameplay in the older Final Fantasys could get boring and repetative but I pushed through it for the epic storys. FF XIII had a crap story, crap characters (seriously howbig of a douch was Snow) and crap gameplay. It looked good that was about it.

The last good FF was X and that was made by SquareSoft before they joined with Enix to make square enix. Since then they have made no good FFs. In regards to XIII-2 it will be crap. The guy in charge of the project has only done 2 other FFs before this and they were X-2 and XIII. They said in the press conference that they would improve on evry aspect of XIII which should not be hard. I will give Final Fantasy verses XIII a chance but if they fuck that up then I will consider the franchise dead and look back at the older games and cry.

Sorry for the rant but Squere Enix have been treating us old FF fans like shit and I have had enough!

I get the feeling they'll solve some problems people had with FF13, lack of towns etc. But if it was loved in Japan then they probably wont change much. Who know the combat might even be turned based.

Actually I found FFXIII to be the best FF i've played in quite some time. The actual combat system was very tactical and the actual bosses and even random encounters were pretty darn challenging.

Last I heard XIII sold something like 6 million copies... are actually questioning why they are making a sequel? I like XIII, its not the best FF by far, but I quite enjoy it. Its main flaw as a game is the lack of additional content beyond the main story, I personally blame the game being moved from PS2 to PS3 mid development and then to the 360 for that, must have cut a lot into the development of the game.

Either way as long as they do something interesting with the story, give us a proper equipment and weapon system, and improve upon the combat I'll be happy.

When the developers start going back to the Final Fantasy 3 (Japanese FF6) model, we may start to see improvements. We'll probably also start to see purple hippos, legalized marijuana and Yahtzee's kids.
