I really enjoyed it. Enjoyed it as much as the older FF's.

I think if you haven't played Final Fantasy before, you'll probably enjoy it. The majority of the people who are whining about the game, are people who don't like the fact that it's moved away from it's traditional formula. Personally I'm happy for a change, but apparently that doesn't work for everyone.

That all said, you really need to try it yourself to find out whether you like it or not. Everyone likes and enjoys different things, unfortunately.

As for those people who are whining because its not the same as the old games... perhaps Mr.Flibbles might have some stern words with them... Or maybe just a staring contest with HEX VISION!

[sorry, I had to after seeing the avatar.]

Haha. Red Dwarf ftw.

Definitely one of my favourite episodes.

So, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane!?

It's not really an insta-game-over, just for that one battle. 'sides, keeping the character alive isn't all THAT difficult if you're running combat effectively. I think I only died like 6 times, and that was overstepping myself early on in Pulse, and then repeatedly throwing myself at the same overpowered brick wall (at the time). The meat of the game was rather manageable.
All I'm going to say is Chapter 11 Boss and its annoyingly unpredictable Doom. Took me 3/4 attempts before I got infuriated and used materials to make a +60% Death Resist trinket. He once cast it when he had 1.6 million health left. Was not amused haha. Majority of fights are manageable, yes, but sometimes you can't help but get over-cocky and think you'll survive another hit or two, or just completely forget to go into a Paradigm with a Sentinel, that cost me restart once or twice heh.
You jogged my memory, I think I repressed that frustrating doom thing...yes, he did that to me, too, but the bastard was just over two mill for me the first, second time was 1.5. Got 'em on the third, but that was VERY maddening!
That, and puzzling out those "special" battles for each character's, uh, desperate moment was also maddening. I completely glazed over that whole bit. Some of those took a few tries. Hard to consider them battles, more like frantic "what the @$%! do I do?!" moments...

I think, on its own, it's a decent game, but it doesn't measure up to the other Final Fantasies.

And in all honesty, I've tried Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Infinite Undiscovery... and FFXIII has been the only 360 RPG I've enjoyed enough to stick through until the end.
If you can find it, try Tales of Vesperia.

Those desperate moments were horrible ;-; Minute it would happen, LIBRA LIBRA LIBRA! What's its weakness? AMAGAD I'M DEAD. I'd just switch between Sab-Sen-Syn and Med-Sen-Syn until lots of buffs were liberally applied then just hope for the best hehe.

It is a bloody good one, this has to be my favourite line from it though x)

K: If you still want to be alive when there's only 78 more days to go, I suggest you do not blow your nose.
L: Do you mind if I ask why?
K: Well, let's forego the noise and the revolting burbling sound and go straight to the really gross part where you always, and I mean always, having blown your nose, have to open up the handkerchief and take a look at the contents. I mean, why? What do you expect to see in there? A Turner seascape, perhaps? The face of the Madonna? An undiscovered Shakespearian sonnet?

My favourite episode of all time is a toss up between Back to Reality and Tikka to Ride if I'm honest though :)

Don't waste your money FF 9 was the last good one, since they appeared on PS2 they were terrible. 8 was, is and always will be the best
I agree with this. If you're a PS3 owner, just go onto the PSN store and download the 7 and 8...then 9 whenever it is released.

Final Fantasy XIII is a very, very pretty game however, that beauty is all it's really got. It is a strictly linear game with poor voice acting and a plot that develops about as quickly as grass. It is said that it gets good in the 11th chapter but that's about 20 hours in depending on what kind of gamer you are. You can only control your party's leader and, while kinetic, you really don't have as much control over characters during combat as the game would have you believe that you do. Standard enemies are all tanks and many of them are as difficult as or, more difficult than boss encounters, many of which are laughably simple to defeat. The music is decent however, it isn't very original: at one point it sounded like somebody had copied Danny Elfman's notes. The characters are kinda lame and a majority of the things you see and fight are artificial, including the summons, which took away from the magic and fantasy of the experience for me. It didn't matter as much at first but it got to the point where I was fighting either humans or robots. Everything else seems very mundane compared to the other installments.

My advice would be to wait for something else or, wait for the inevitable price drop if you're deadset on picking this one up. It really is a pretty game but that's about it.

Surprisingly (lol) I'm gonna back this, get Tales of Vesperia

OP: Yes, get FFXIII, if it's your first FF you won't be let down if you invest a bit of patience.

Most people on this site hate JRPG's, and most people in general just love to complain all the time, so it's no surprise you've seen it slagged off a lot.

If you think it looks good, you'l probably like it. I certainly did.
