http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a396737/new-final-fantasy-xiii-title-confirmed-for-anniversary-event.html

A Final Fantasy XIII sequel will be unveiled at an upcoming anniversary event, Square Enix has confirmed.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase told Famitsu (via Andriasang) that the game has just entered production and that its full title will be revealed at the Final Fantasy event in Tokyo.

The anniversary event takes place from August 31 until September 2. The Final Fantasy XIII-3 announcement is expected to take place on September 1.

An unveiling had been expected after Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama said that the team is not finished with the cliffhanger ending of Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess released in May, and was said to be the last DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2. With no new DLC planned, Toriyama's comments point towards a sequel.

The publisher is also still working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which has had a troubled development cycle over the past several years.

Square Enix recently announced that it is also bringing back fan-favourite game Final Fantasy VII on PC through the company's online store.
So is each Final Fantasy game going to be a trilogy now? Because I didn't think XIII-1 needed a sequel. Where the hell is Versus 13 as well?

Versus is alive and well, or at least that's what Square tells us.

Fucking seriously? Out of all the FF games, they give the worst one TWO sequels?

Now, let's think about this for a second.

What they're talking about is a 'new Final Fantasy XIII TITLE'. Not necessarily a sequel. While I agree that XIII-3 might happen (which is a shame, considering how much of a botched sequel XIII-2 was), but it could also mean a new Fabula Nova title, such as a rumored PS3 version/sequel to Type 0, a retitling of Versus XIII...

Not that we can always count on Square to do awesome things, but I'm not entirely dreading this announcement.

I wouldn't say that 13 was the worst, after all it was a kneejerk reaction to 12 which was developed with the demands for a more open and western style game from the fans. The fact that they're giving 13-2 a sequel after that ending (not sure what happened with the DLC as I swore I wasn't gonna shell out any more cash on it) seems like they were trying to turn this into a trilogy. I actually liked 13-2, the whole time travel bit was a nice concept, the maps were larger and more complex, it didn't have the whole 9 chapter tutorial, and the true ending, while a downer was well done, a first for the series, and actually fit the villian.

No if there was a obejectively 'worst' game it would be 10-2, whose only saving grace was the combat system. Everything else seemed to be the love child of Team Ninja and J-Pop.

Notice how they didn't give 10-2 a sequel?

Don't know what you mean. FF X got only one sequel.

Never finished the first one, so I haven't played the second one, but from what I heard, the second one is way better in everything.

FF 13 did not need a sequel. Not necessarily because the game was bad (a highly debatable topic here, i actually liked it), but because the first game wrapped things up pretty nicely. The second game, while it tried to improve many aspects (and for the most part succeeded), went in a direction i did not like.

This is far beyond what anyone actually wanted.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt XIII the game that no one cares about and has the least amount of fans? Why not focus on getting XV out the door instead of faffing about with a story we're done with and dont want any more of?

This . FFXIII, was okay. They wrapped things up , ending was bittersweet , it was done . I actually liked FFXIII and replayed it so i could buy FFXIII-2 day one .

Then suddenly : lolnope that wasn't was really happened! Let's change it for no apparent reason , and give it a sequel . Which i didn't finish . It is the only FF game i never finished , thats how bad i thought it was , and this is coming from a guy that despised FFX-2 from begining to end and still finished it .

I'm done with SE .

I couldn't finish XIII. I got to Gran Pulse, and found there were 60 'hunt the thing' missions and honestly couldn't be bothered. I actually got through most of the railroad-y bits with no problems the second time round (the first time, I put it down after killing Barthandelus the first time and got no further), but when it got to Pulse, I just couldn't do it anymore. I tried desperately to finish it, and put off playing XIII-2, which I had a lot more interest in, so I could try to finish it first. However, a couple of days ago, I picked up XIII-2 and have absolutely LOVED it. Every issue I had with XIII is gone, and I've enjoyed the setting, the plot, the characters, the non-linearity of it all, and hell, even the missions, and they're not all 'go here, hit that until it dies'. So yeah, if they continue it with a sequel, I'll probably get it. But VERSUS XIII, that is a game I NEED to see.

Final Fantasy XIII is the only final fantasy I've played. And y'know, I didn't have a problem with it. At first. I even managed to (somehow) grind out the plat (fucking Treasure Hunter trophy, how we loathe thee!) So yeah, I got the sequel, and played through that. Completed it just last week actually. Again, didn't have a problem with it (the fact that both games look absolutely fucking gorgeous really helps)

However, after spending so much time grinding out battle after battle, I have to agree with Yahtzee. JRPGs fucking suck. The structure of the games are just broken. With all of the random encounters, you level up pretty quickly, which makes all of those random encounters a walk in the park. Which means that throughout the majority of the game, you have gameplay interrupted by what amounts to a series of pointless unskippable cutscenes. Like, every 20-30 seconds. And it just drains all will to live fun out of it.

OT: Sigh. Still, I would probably check XIII-3 out, if only because of the appaling cliffhanger they left the second game on.

I'm looking forward to XIII-3! I just beat 13-2 a few days ago, and GOOD GOD I LOVED THAT GAME! I still need to get to the Lightning DLC, but that ending, good god! I HAVE to see this continue!

Shut up and take my money, Square-Enix!

The only way I can describe my feelings to this is by typing down "A" and "H" 20000 times in all caps.

.......

I won't, but I'm just putting it out there.

So... XIII-2 wasn't a FINAl Fantasy per se.... more like a second-to-last Fantasy?

How many world ending crisis in a row can one universe have?

More than you think.
