7 because it was the first one I played, followed by 9, then 6, finally 3. The others are ok, and I have yet to play 12.

But better than any in the series is the original Final Fantasy Tactics for the ps1. Play that.

Forget all that, play Disgea (get it for the ps2 or ds).

I've played X, VII, and IV, and I'm currently playing XI. They're pretty good for a series with that many sequels. The storyline can get confusing at times (though not Kojima confusing, thank god), and some of the designs are odd but nonetheless interesting (seriously, flying boats?), but it's still a really good series.

Now if we could just find a way to make Moogles and Chocobos in the real world... Hm...

A bit of fine tuning, but this fellow had it right!

Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 is pretty rad. My favourite though has got to be FFIX... probably because it was the first one I ever played.

In terms of Final Fantasys whose story really fished me and engaged me, I'd have to say Final Fantasy 7. Final Fantasy 2 US (FFIV Japan) was the first to engage me like that, but Final Fantasy 7 outclassed it in every aspect.

In terms of the Final Fantasy whose game mechanics I like the most, I'm going to have to go with Final Fantasy XII. The Gambit system turned out to be a lot more cool than I thought it would be. I guess I'm sick enough of RPGs that just setting a bunch of rules and letting the characters play themselves is preferable.

In terms of the most artistically satisfying, I'd have to say Final Fantasy X was the best. There was a whole lot of attention on the aesthetic detail of the game.

In terms of the most ambitious, Final Fantasy XI. Yes, Square made a MMORPG, and guess what? It didn't kill the company. Final Fantasy XI is basically an EverQuest clone, but it's remarkable in that it is a really well balanced one, to say nothing for the Square-Enix artistic talent.

7 was my first one and I was "hooked" in my adolescence like when I was 10-11 I followed the series from then on, only to feel some-what disapointed by eacho new release, right now i'm sort've maintaining a position on the fense about newer titles that're yet to be released, because as much as I really wanted to, I just couldn't get into 12 I love the style to a degree because it was going back to the orginal style of the much earlier games. but alas it still wasn't enough to take those Precious PSOne titles out of my mind.

As much as 8 and 9 didn't quite live up to 7's standards in my mind they were brilliant games in their own right. especially 9 which was a brilliant look into the mythology and history of the Final Fantasy series. (What with the crystals and everything)

But yeah, i'm still a fan i guess you could say, but over the years the series' novelty has very much run almost dry in me.

If 13 (and all those other 13's...) are a success then maybe i'll give 'em a look and see for myself. Until then i'll just hold onto what I appreciated the most.

I absolutely LOVE them all up until and including IX.
When it moved onto the PS2, I really just started disliking the characters and the plots, however, the graphics just got more and more amazing. I think that the best graphics:console gen is by far FFIX, the cut scenes were simply stunning.
EDIT: FF VII is really quite over hyped. My fav is either VI/V (cant remember which is which lulz)or IX.

Awesome. I've always loved FF games, but my favorite would have to be 9. I just beat it for the first time, and i'm working on 7 also, but my game keeps glitching.

I've beaten 1,2,3,4,9. I've played 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,10,11,12. Kinda sad i know, but still. I love Final Fantasy, and I wanna play Dissidia...like...now.

Matsamu, play ff6! It's one of the very best :)

My top list of ff games -

ff 7
ff 6
ff 10
ff 5
ff 9
ff 4
ff 8

Never played the original ff 1-3, just the remade versions, as amazing as they were I won't put them on the list. Also, ff 11 I've heard very mixed things about.

And I'm not even putting 12 on the above list. I completed it, but imho it doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to ff 8. Goddamnit Square you bastards, after raising my hopes so much about how brilliant it could be you bring out ff12 with a terrible main character, hammy voice acting, incomprehensible story, *those* treasure chests, terrible villain and the worst, WORST mmorpg-style combat system of any FF.

The disappointment ruined it for me.

9 was my favourite, because its the only one I ever completed.
Unfortunate memory card failures on the third disc of both 7 and 8 put me off restarting those games again.
