I'd forgotten about the knockoffs of ff games like tactics and stuff. I love the Advanced tactics games, espcecially FFTA2...it was epic. And hard, which is wierd...but cool

Anyone that thinks of VII and VIII as the best in the series earns an instant "You have no idea what you're talking about do you" stamp in my mind.

But I am a bitter, bitter man these days.

I can produly say I've played almost every Final Fantasy game (the exception being chocobo tales >.<) and I can say I love them all, but I will always hold IV, VII, X, and Tactics (all of them, I'm a strategy die hard), because I think that those are the ones that have truly brought new and interesting things to the series. IV brought the ATB, VII brought an AMAZING story (GOD, I SHOULD TRANSCRIPT IT INTO A BOOK), an X was just too good in too many ways. Although slow. Very slow. The tactics, of course, brought the new strategy feature which made the game require much more deeper thought and patience. Overall, the series is good, and there's no denying it's a referent in the world of videogaming.

I want it back.

And stop with the whole "let's merge every culture into a single smorgaboard of sci-fi inspiration" thing. Go back to the basics. The series hasn't grown since FF8.

And give me an OFFICIAL sequel to FFT. Not the shitty kids game, an ACTUAL sequel where I play as a Knight to King Delita...
Amen =/. I swear if they made FFT downloadable from PSN...

I'm a loyal fan through and through, but I gotta say, I haven't got much hope for the series these days. My opinion of XIII gets worse every time I hear about it, and Squareenix's "10 years 'til the true sequel, have 780 crappy ports while you wait lololololol" has not filled me with a great deal of confidence.

That said, these are my favorite entries in the series.

II(IV), SNES - It was my first Final Fantasy, and despite the fact that I didn't actually beat it until the more faithful PSX port years later, it's very dear to me for it's compelling storyline and fun dialogue.

VI, SNES - What really impresses me about this game is the fact that the cast is huge, yet each one manages to bring a compelling story to the table. I don't think I've played a game since about which I could discuss the character's backstories, personality traits, emotional baggage and eventual redemption.

VII - Say what you will about the rabid fanbase, I enjoyed VII for what it was; an excellent RPG with an interesting skill system and a story that might be a bit ludicrous at times, but still manages to be entertaining.

Tactics - Oh man, this one had it all. The winding, intricate story, the compelling characters, the gameplay, the secrets, the replay factor... For me, it is the ultimate Final Fantasy game, and it's a shame that it doesn't get the recognition it's due.

Final Fantasy is the series that got me into gaming, so I'm VERY nostalgic towards it and... in all honesty, I love ALL of the core entries and a good portion of the spin offs. Favorites of the pack however are as follows, in no particular order...

6 - Big cast of characters, awesome story, some of the best music in the series etc. What's not to love... well... it is VERY dated and doesn't hold up as well as it used too, but it's still one of my favorites.

7 - My first REAL videogame, I begged my parents to buy me this when it first came out and I replayed it almost every year for a good long while. I hold a soft spot in my heart for this one, that and it has some of the best Game Design in the entire series, what you do and how you do it is awesome. Story is a bit nonsensical and Cloud is an annoying yutz, but now I actually want to play this again.

9 - This game still charms the crap out of me. Warm, funny and likeable characters, a brilliantly designed world and some of the coolest art in the series makes for a worthwhile entry despite the lackluster story.

10 - Tidus' bad voice acting and Meg Ryan looks aside, I love this game. The story was cool, the plot twists were interesting, the combat was awesome and the ending made me cry.

12 - My favorite of the series... in concept. Ivalice, as presented in Final Fantasy XII is THE BEST WORLD Final Fantasy has ever put forward, with the most realistic plot and villain I've ever seen. That said I didn't like aspects of the combat, there should have been a bigger focus on plot and Vaan can die in a hole.

Spin Offs

Tactics - With the phenomenal PSP remake... this is the BEST spin off, with awesome music and the plot FFXII should have had.

Tactics A2 - Charming and challenging with gorgeous graphics and really fun battles.

The Future...

I'm going to remain optimistic about 13 until it comes out and I can render an appropriate judgement. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt though and try very hard to like it.
