I'm not sure its the hardest in the game, but its certainly the most memorable boss fight to me and really is just a beautiful encounter.

But you could just take all the Colossi and that's the list right there. Each one would be the singular best boss battle in any other game.
I must play this game! But the only option is streaming it through psn now service (720p at best, frame rate...umm well) for me. Is it worth these current restrictions still?
Honestly try and find a cheap PS2 and a copy of it. A low framerate could really fuck with the grandeur of the game.
Weirdly, that might actually be cheaper still than subscribing to their streaming service. And at least I'll get to keep the damn thing :) Does the ps2 allow downloads of games or must this be obtained through the ancient method of physical disc trading?

Ancient method. SotC on PS2 really taxed the system to the max and the game stutters at times. I would recommend the re-release on PS3(which is on PSN as well) where they improved the framerate and the game generally just runs better.

Anyways my pick would go to the final level of Manhunt as I felt the entire game really built towards this moment. Finally you're face to face with Starkweather and his private army of spec ops. Go through this and it's just you, Starkweather and a chainsaw. :p

Loved this game. Really the quintessential survival-horror game in my opinion. Wish Rockstar made another one for current-gen systems. Unfortunately they seem complacent releasing a new GTA game every 5 years to fill their pockets.

Okami and Undertale (pacifist path) come to my mind.

What these two got in common is that they both sweep my up with my emotion and getting me to cared about the frictional worlds and their characters. Those battle itself is kinda like the hero will always previal against the darkness! Also they both got killer final theme tune!

Ah okis, thankyou :) I can obtain this through the ps4 and have seen it on the streaming service, but am kind of wary having a game depend purely streamed through a tinterwebs connection. Though it really is my only available choice for now, and the game doesn't look to be testing any shooter twitch reflexes. May be able to get it done before the last guardian...thanks for the help! ;)

Definitely the Suicide Mission from Mass Effect 2 for me. It really felt like the situation was dire. Your squad/crewmates could actually die during the approach to the collector ship and the 3-part mission. And while the human reaper made me go 'really? a human reaper? ugh...' I still thought the fight was pretty good and intense.

And something that not many people might agree with. ME3's final approach towards the beam had a really awesome section too, to me. The part where you have to launch rockets at a reaper in between waves of reaper forces, while said reaper is slowly heading your way. The first time I did it squadmates kept dying, the tons of stronger enemies made me run and hide all over the place, and by the end of it I had no more ammo left for any of my guns. So I had to rely on powers alone. It felt awesome once I finally launched those final 2 rockets and made it through.

Jergingha Planetary Annihilation Form from Wonderful 101. Platinum have always done fairly good final bosses, and this guy is the Platinum-est of the Platinum-est.

I really do recommend you just watch a video of it, and I'll provide a pretty good one right here:

I can agree with this: It was such a good ending they decided to do it again for Halo 2...and I think Halo 3...wait, maybe there wasn't an explodie-chase in Halo 2 but Halo 3 copied it...
Halo 2 had a contrived boss battle with Tartarus. He had an aura of invincibility (the game never explains how or why) except for brief windows where Sgt. Johnson stuns him with sniper fire. It was dull, repetitive and it highlighted how rushed and troubled the game's development was.

Halo 3 was the one that copied the original's ending, albeit clumsily. The level architecture was what brought the experience down for me. Instead of navigating the Autumn's twisting architecture punctuated by sick ramp jumps, you're trundling down a surface of flat, featureless square tiles. It felt more like a quick homage level done in Forge mode than the grand finale to the series.

Speaking of Halo games after the first being rushed and a bit lackluster, it kind of blew my mind that The Gravemind was never used in a boss fight. Depending on how you play Halo 2 and Halo 3 I think it's entirely possible to not even know that The Gravemind existed at all. It would have been tough to make a boss fight out of what is essentially a giant, rotten Shoggoth but to completely write the thing out seems incredibly mind blowing.

The music and the big finishing move are what did it for me in that one. My D&D campaign is set in the future with mechs and space stuff, so I'm tempted to take a little inspiration from the Wonderful 101 in a move or two

I will have to go with the Pacifist Boss for Undertale. No spoilers but I have never felt such an emotional connection and desire to help an antagonist before. The ending so so bitter sweet but little things that occurred during the battle just blew my mind.

The Rebel Flagship in FTL was a pretty good shake-up, mixing in all the game's mechanics in a purposefully overpowered way. You really get this sense of being outmatched, like a spider trying to kill an elephant. (The fact that failing means you have to start all over again is also a factor.)

Oh, and another roguelike: the *real* Final Boss of One Way Heroics (at least, the core game).

You've spent all your playthroughs up until now fleeing from the inexorable, unstoppable wall of darkness at the left side of the screen.

Then you kill it.

Both of those were really good bosses, although I wouldn't say "mind-blowing." I normally reserve that term for narrative twists rather than really interesting mechanics.
