And it's pretty good.

Since this is the first game in the series that I've experienced, I decided to head offline to get some practice in before doing anything online. My first intentions was to begin knocking out the arcade mode. Needless to say, I can't get past stage five without getting my ass handed to me.

Why does this game fail to explain anything to me? I've read the manual, checked videos, and I can't seem to get past the terrible control scheme. How the hell do I perform hyper combos? I've performed the same combo over and over again without any results and it's becoming frustrating at this point.

Not to mention that there's a huge difficulty jump from one stage to another. Is this game purposely doing its best to make me quit?

Help me out here.

Do the training mode for a bit with the characters you want to play as and do each of their combo's, one by one. Just use the command/move list in the game(start --> move/command list).

You don't need to be fancy and combo crazy to beat the computers. Find something that works, then repeat it until you get carpal tunnel. I would also suggest finding characters that are easy for you to use, but you should use all of them to know how their moves work.

The game is a ton of fun online though.

To see how characters seems to play went to the "challenge" mode and tried to do the combos they showed me, helped me a little bit. Though I am fairly new to the fighting genre so, that's not saying much. For hyper combos, I just do the command and press Y+B (X-Box) since they are the easiest to press personally, only Taskmaster I do change it since it affects the attack. Maybe the character you chose aren't exactly the best suited for you fighting type too.

Best fighting game I've played in a long, long time. Even better than SSF4.

It's just a matter of practicing, it doesn't take a lot of skill to pull off some insane combos. The skill is where and when you apply them.

Against a keep away character, i.e. Trish? Close that ***** down with a rush down character like X-23. Being harassed by big characters like Hulk and Sentinel? Use a character like Morrigan, who has a decent keep away game and can easily break through their armour (they can absorb one attack, without beng interrupted).

Or you could have Amaterasu, who can be an amazing rushdown character one second, then have a brilliant keep away game using the beads and the power slash the next second.

The game is as much about strategy, as it is about pulling off moves.

Yeah... the game kinda assumes you know fighting games... makes learning difficult :/
Hell if I know how to do hyper combos, I just stick with a nice team of Dante, Amaterusu and Wesker. Their variety of moves compensates for my noobiness/

Thanks for the tips.

I think I'll just do as everyone is saying and stick to a couple of characters and familiarize myself with their abilities. I'll try to keep it as flexible as possible.

Visit this site. It has videos on everything you need to know about the game. It also has video segments on every character. It should give you a better idea of which characters you may like to use.

I traded this game in. It was fun, but once I'd kind of unlocked a few of the character's bios...it just got a bit tedious. I don't deny it was a good game though.

Also...found it kind of hard to get the hang of...at times...ahem.

Hyper combos = 2 attack buttons at the same time. Also L2 on the PS3 Dualshock layout. Had to read the manual.

And no spectator mode sucks!

Yeah it is a bit annoying.. roommate asked me: "Why are you watching license cards dancing?"

The answer? "I'm just waiting for a match"
use a gun..and if that don't work... use more guns

Or the right trigger on the 360.

For most characters that have a Level 3 combo, it's forward-down-downforward + Hyper Combo button.

Left trigger or both assist buttons simultaneously is the Hyper Combination combo (2 or 3 character's hyper combos simultaneously. Just, be aware that not everyone's combos work well together. Dante, Deadpool and Trish work well together, as all 3 are ground-hugging projectiles.
