baccano is just brilliant and it has alchemy in it it's not like it but has similar characters apart from an awesome villain who gets half his body blown up and says to people 'what you looking at' (he is just a normal person no powers)

You should check out Cowboy Bebop (though stay away from the movie), Guyver (the 2000's one) and Blue Gender.
Cowboy Bebop has an amazing story and plenty of character development, not to mention top notch voice acting (for the dubbed version).
The new version of Guyver goes into more detail and depth than the '08's/'90's version.
And Blue Gender has a nice mix of mecha (about the size of the mecha from District 9) and post-apocalyptic earth.

Finally, go watch Black Lagoon. It's awesome and occasionally funny, though there is a lot of violence, blood and language (nearly on par with a Tarantino movie language-wise)

I'd recommend Death Note, it's a really great anime/manga.

I just watched all of Full Metal Alchemist on the weekend, so now I plan on finding Brotherhood and watching that.

Agreed, brotherhood is amazing! I liked FM Alchemist but wasn't fond of the end, then I heard that the comic hadn't finished and the anime creators were in such a rush to make an anime out of it they just made up an ending, which explains why they have much in common, but Brotherhood makes more sense, it relates to religeon more, it finishes on a note thatis somewhat sad but happy but most importantly fits in with the rest of the plot. Also, Edward and Winry actually get somewhere like they were supposed to and ALL of the seven sins make an appearance rather than just a couple of them.

One of the best anime series I've seen besides Ghost in a Shell, Gungrave, Cow Boy Bebop and Gurren Lagann.

EDIT: I liked death note and thought it started off amazing, one of the best starts to an anime ever, but then it started to get tedious. By the end of it I was so worn out I was desperate to start watching something else.

Ah...

I suppose it's almost my duty by now to recommend to you Clay [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Claymore]more [http://www.watchanimeon.com/anime/claymore/]!

It's just the best thing I've seen.

If you ever get round to giving it a try, you'll love it =)

Just be aware that Brotherhood is very different from the original Anime and I would avoid the Conqueror of Shamballa movie as well. Stupid thing drags on forever and raises more questions then answers.

Other then that advice, I can't really help ya. Sorry.

Only a few episodes left for me to watch...Wondering if people can recommend me any series like it?

I hear that Brotherhood is good, so you don't need to recommend that.

I'd also prefer to keep it around 50 or less episodes. REALLY don't feel like another month long marathon. I just did all the seasons of Buffy and Angel...I'd like something that I can finish in a week or so.
Brotherhood is full of a bunch of chibi-shit, loads and loads of unnecessary "humor". It got on my nerves. Then again, the original FMA is the only anime I really like nowadays. I tried others, and couldn't get into it.

Also, and I'm going to cap, bold, and italicize this because it cannot get enough emphasis:

DON'T WATCH THE CONQUEROR OF SHAMBALLA, IT'S HORRIBLY MADE, BADLY WRITTEN, AND DISGUSTINGLY ENDED

Sorry if you're offended by my yelling, but I hated every minute of that movie and I refuse to take it as canon. The plot is just incomprehensibly horrible and is full of cameo's, the animation where Ed is (you'll find out what I mean by that) is horrible, and the ending is so disappointingly fucked-up that I was angry for an entire day at the movie. It was the biggest "What the fuck?" of my life. Do not watch that movie, the show ends on a great note.
2 votes against the movie. One of them was really loud, too.

I'll skip that.

while death note is amazing in my opinion (what other anime makes a tennis match interesting). I hesitate to recommend it to people because it is quite a dark and unique anime, I would only openly recommend it to somebody i knew was Ok with this kinda thing.
Not to mention the sudden turn at the midpoint that changes the show quite a bit.

I'd recommend Deathnote but I don't want you to incredibly disappointed halfway through.
If you like action. Black Lagoon, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Hellsing, Outlaw Star....
Code Geass was pretty good too.

Actually, Last Exile was very FMA like.

I beleve there's one out there called Prince of Tennis. I haven't watched it myself but from what I hear it's like Wimbeldon combined with Dragonball Z.

Well the major problem I had with it (Besides all the points the second poster made), is that it just substitutes one cliffhanger for another. I could probably summarize the entire thing, saving you 2 hours, but it would probably be full of spoilers that aren't revealed until the very final episode.

I only have Brotherhood at the moment, something my friend put on my HDD and told me to watch this semester when I am bored. I haven't started it yet but I will soon.

I am not much of an anime person, but my friend who gave me these to watch definitely is, and the other things he gave me to watch include: AMV Hell, Samurai Champloo, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Abenobashi Shopping Arcade. Now I seriously haven't the slightest idea as to what any of these are like, but he said he put some of his top picks on my HDD for me, and that is what is there.

If you want a good, smart anime I highly recommend One Outs. Base ball anime with psychology mixed into it, reminiscent of death note.

There's a lot of good anime of all different types, but from Full Metal Alchemist, I would probably suggest Trigun (which is excellent).
