That's not even the worst part...they pretty much assimilated Blizzard too. I mean, StarCraft 2 got effed in the a by Activision's desire to do nothing but make money. No LAN play, a required active internet connection to even play the dang thing...I mean seriously, Blizzard wouldn't do something like that intentionally. No freakin way.

I am a gamer, I don´t mind Activision making a bit of profit for their games.
See what I do, and what I would really suggest you do as well, is not buy games that you consider bad.

Also, stop sending ranty letters in my name. To think that all gamers share your sentiment, is just incredibly arrogant.

Activision is simply an unimaginative corporation with poor PR and a CEO that's out of control. Let's see thing for what they are, and we won't lose track of what's actually the problem.

Please don't speak for all gamers, only speak for yourself. Clearly, a good number of gamers enjoy the products released by Activision.
There's also that.

I understand what he's getting at, they don't even bother to patch a VOTE KICK THIS ASS HERE button, even Halo, its competitor did that, but my memory is foggy, I may be wrong.
Activision only cares about making subpar games, and only ones that will sell because of its multiplayer, I played Black Ops, and didn't enjoy the experience after playing, because NOTHING made any BLOODY sense. The issue is that they have a way of milking EVERYTHING that is popular. People complain that Valve are this rich, well Activision is pulying worth shit, and their fine.

What needs to happen, is for some new blood be bred into activision with fresh, new ideas, that way they can actually start caring for their fans, instead of just feeding them shittier versions of a once great game.

Actiwho? I think you mean Ubisoft, I mean they killed Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell, and now they are letting Gearbox destroy Brothers in Arms. I mean they actually put someone who is on the record as saying he hated the Splinter Cell games in charge of Conviction. I'm not even going to start on their DRM. Activision have a lot of catching up to do if they are going to catch up with Ubisoft.

Oh and Ubisoft don't hate their customers they just don't care a tinker's cuss about them and want someone else's customers more.
You forgot to mention Prince of Persia: So Patronizingly Simple You Can't Die.
No, you could die, its just dying just brought you back from the grave instantly, and it doesn't make it simple, it keeps flow, in super meat boy, you were brought back from death, so you wouldn't have to load from the last checkpoint.
My question to you is, in a shooter, how often do you die do you encounter a loading screen? How mad are you for trying so long at the level, dying, having to go back to that loading screen?

Read the edit. Yes, you fail at humor.

What if car companies purposefully recalled its vintage cars and scrapped them for the metal?? What if food companies threw out their old flavors for new ones?? What if manufacturers of electronic equipment outright stopped producing parts for their older models? I'll tell you what would happen: they'd lose customers and they'd lose money.
You fail at analogies too. COD4, COD:WAW, COD:MW2 are still around and still have a playerbase, albeit smaller than in their peak times, so the car analogy fails. New cars for the same series are made every year (Honda Civic 2010, 2011, 2012 etc...)

Food companies DO throw out old flavors for new ones it the older ones don't sell as well.

Manufacturers of electronic equipment DO stop producing parts for their older models.

Come on, I'm not even trying to be a smart ass. EVERYONE knows these things. That's why your joke failed. Everyone genuinely thought you were an uninformed moron, until you made it clear it was an attempt at satire.

@OT: I see sort've what you're saying. After seeing how promising and new and refreshing COD4 was I was really hoping it was going to not be beaten to death. That being said, I've moved on at this point. I will play MW3, I know I'm not going to change Activision's mind by not playing it, but I do wish it was a better game, and I can't wait for another game that gave me the COD4 feeling.

If people honestly think the money they spend on these titles of Cod which all seem the same, there's nothing we can do about it.
WHICH IS WHY EVERYONE SHOULD BUY BATTLEFIELD!!
And you know, hope they don't do the same as activision.

Dear crepesack,

I'm a big boy and can speak for myself, I don't need you to do it for me. And I personally have no problem with Activision (hey, they aren't EA after all), so I'd appreciate it if you didn't associate me as agreeing with your rants against Activision in the future.

Sincerely,
One of the gamers you mistakenly spoke for

Tl:DR about half that post. What i got from (that half) is that you dont like games selling big.

I agree. When a game gets too big it should die. Otherwise, games will copy that game, and the video Game industry stagnates. That game is copyd and remade and resold and rebooted over and OVER again. And it takes years for another IP to come along.

Big brand companies need to innovate, not remake. But its a hard ballance- go too far, lose all the community. Dont go far enough, lose alot of the community. I mean, look at Square Enix. They moved too far, too fast, and lost nearly everything. If they slowed down a bit, they would still be leading the RPG market, but they still would have to innovate, of course.. Or nintendo, They innovated too much with the Nintendo Wii, and now everyone is a bit cautious with the WiiU. Theres a limit on both sides.

To be completely honest, the reason I hate Call of Duty isn't because it's released every year with little to no improvements. It isn't because Activision are the greediest of the greedy. It's not because they don't care about their fans. It's because Call of Duty is way too God damn popular. It's hard for any other shooter or online multiplayer game to get a foothold when half the online gaming population is playing 1 game. Seriously, my estimates for the amount of people playing online games at any given time on Xbox Live is around 40% Call of Duty, 20% Halo, 15% Gears of War, 15% Battlefield and the other 10% to every other game there is. Trying to find a game online for Saints Row 2, Dead Rising 2 are near impossible.

And to the people talking about companies discontinuing products, the OP said that companies don't cut old products to make room for new, they cut new, "limited time only" products to make room for more "limited time only" products. The original Mountain Dew wasn't removed so they could bring in Code Red or Live Wire. Burger King never removed the Whopper from their menu to make room for the Steakhouse Burger or the Angry Whopper. They keep what is a key piece to their company and add and remove new options to keep things fresh.

As far as games go, old games will eventually have to get pulled once they're old and the general populace has moved on, there's no changing that. The server space should be opened up for games that will still be played. That being said, those companies never removed them after a year or two. Bungie supported Halo 2 all the way from back on the Original Xbox. Someone mentioned that Jedi Knight servers went down... after SEVEN years.

Halo 3 is going on 4 years old and the only thing preventing you from playing is that most of the population has moved on to Reach or something else. Bungie still supports the game. They still track the stats of players on Halo 3. I am pretty sure they still keep the game updated. Halo Reach is going on to be a year old and the game is still supported very well with a weekly update to give out credit bonuses and new playlists and new community made maps being put into Matchmaking circulation each and every month. Just recently Bungie even released and official iPhone app that lets players look at their stats, commendations, challenges and everything else AND enabled the use of special, "Bungie-only" exclusives like the Blue Flaming Helmet.

It was also however, Activision's cash cow, the host from which the parasite fed.
COD may be big, but i'm pretty sure their REAL cash cow is WOW. just sayin'. I think it singlehandedly accounts for like 45% of their income, and it just keeps on giving!

Also I'm not really sure why people are saying activision "cares" for its customers. Does a caring company completely ignore its core fanbase when they request some glitch to be patched? Does a caring company simply piss on any improvements in their older games by releasing a new one before the old one was even fully polished?
You obviously don't understand programing, fixing an issue can take a lot of work and time and most people do want a new better game then just having the old one constantly fixed up. Activision cares for it's customers who exercise their speech by spending their money in a way that lets them know what they want. Millions of people buy the new Call of Duty you know what that means? Millions of people want the new Call of Duty.

Someone mentioned that they're keeping their fan base happy by releasing a new title annually. This is the exact naivete I'm directing my argument at. We shouldn't settle for more when the old stuff isn't up to snuff. Additionally I was referring to kids LITERALLY. It's no doubt that the key demographic for call of duty's seasonal return is the ages 12-15. Not the age group the game is "rated" for.
Why should we have to wait for the old stuff to be fixed when the new stuff is better in the first place?

On top of that. My analogies DO hold true. Mountain dew doesn't get rid of its old recipe because it comes out with a new flavor. McDonalds doesn't get rid of the big mac because of a new double quarter pounder or some other slop that comes out.
Lets see, Pitch Black 2, Gamer Fuel, Typhoon, Distortion just to name a few. Burger King removed the Loaded Steakhouse Burger, and the Cheesy Tots. Companies discontinue products, it's how life works.

Games should be replayable. I don't want to settle for less.
Every game is replayable, in fact I have never played a game that is not replayable
Not to bash on your post, for I agree with you, but... Assassin's Creed II. You need internet access to play... I wonder what will happen after they shut down the servers for that!

..... OK whut? Seriously you act as those activision was killing babies in a ritualistic manner or something. You really beleive that activision is the only one who has left old games to go their way when new titles come out? The same for just about every single console available game out there that has a squeal. (I say console based because PC games have extended life spans over Consoles. Look at how many people still play starcraft 1.)

Hell why blame activision why not blame dice? Battlefield 2 was a great game of its time but it was left to rot when BF2142 came out. Then that was left to rot when Bad company came out, Then that was left to rot when Bad Company 2 came out, and thats going to be left to rot when BF 3 Comes out.

I seriously dont get why your rage is pointed at activision. They sponsor good games alot of the time. Just because any of the COD series served its time honorably and was replaced dosent make them evil hate spewing, money parasites. They dont get money because people dont pay for things you know...

Your rage is seriously misguided if not sadly delusional. I have more than enough reason to beleive that during any of the CODS time to shine they received the utmost of money/time/effort/patches/fixes/updates/tweaks/fansupport that it needed to be more successful than many game series out there that just release a turd and let it sink or swim. (duke nukem). Thats more than enough proof to say that activision cares more about there titles than many other developer teams out there.
Actually you are quite wrong about BF2, they released the 1.5 patch for it, including a new map and the boosters for free. And they patched BC and BC2 whenever they had a problem. As for the good games thing...well MW2 was hardly good. Activison has done no such thing to their games.

And how do you expect them to make the money that they would need to continue supporting CoD? And how much would you ***** and moan if they made you pay for that support?
Take a look at Team Fortress 2, please. It's still making money, and is today coming out with a free update several orders of magnitude greater than anything the Activision cashcows released for $15.
