Surprised MS haven't sent a Windows Update thru to break Windows XP and Vista too, they're getting old...

Tho, thinking about it, they'd be more likely to just screw up gaming completely on all Windows PCs, to get people onto the 360, they've been working on that since they released GFWL :D

I'm just surprised that 360 piracy is so bad that they feel it's worth shipping hundreds of new 250g slims out to customers to update the firmware. I don't know anyone with a hacked PS3 or 360 at all.

"that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs,"

a very small number due to the older hardware tending to RROD

I haven't been prompted to update my firmware yet...?
Nor have I.
They're doing it in 6 waves between the 19th and the 30th to "ensure a high quality deployment".

But yeah, I'ma jump on the wagon and hope my Xbox bricks :D

Hey guys, did you hear?
They got Playstation Network back online!
Yup, it's all fixed, and we get some free games for our trouble!
...
Oh, hey Microsoft, how's things on your end?
Firmware Update that cripples the console?
And the RROD still has a 66% chance of happening any time it's turned on?
Huh...
Well, I'm off to play some Portal 2... ON STEAM...
I can access that from my PS3 now...
:D
Oh wow, that's the most bullshit statistic I've ever heard. I've turned on my 360 thousands of times and it's not RROD'd.

Not just that, but didn't you read the "You know what? We have so much money that we'll just give everyone whose Xbox breaks a free console, since we didn't just incur several million dollars in losses by losing everyone's personal information. Oh, and we'll give them access to our premium service for a year, instead of a month." part of MS's statement?

Wow. Just Wow!

To combat piracy Microsoft is bricking legitimate consoles. This would explain what is happening to one of my 360s. I have almost not been able to play anything on it in a month. So instead I have been playing on my other one.

alright, let me get this straight...
1. http://consumerist.com/2009/08/xbox-360-failure-rate-is-542-percent-game-informer-finds.html
yes, I was a bit off, but if you think anything over 50% is anywhere near "good", you're a fool.
2. believe it or not, it IS possible to turn on a 360 and not have it Red Ring. there's just a good chance of it happening. getting one of two results does not mean the other result is not possible.
3. so XBLA is free if you red ring? huh, that's wierd, considering I've never heard that ANYWHERE and my friend (whose 360 has suffered from the RROD a few times) never recieved such an offer. who knows, maybe you're just special.
4. it's not a free console. if they gave you TWO 360's, you'd be getting a free console. in the end of it all, you spent enough money to buy one 360 and are left with one 360. not to mention, it is not a good thing when an ENTIRE CONSOLE needs to be replaced.
5. who's lost several million dollars to hackers? I know I haven't, I don't think anyone else has either.
6. Microsoft doesn't replace 360's out of the good of their hearts or because of how much money they have. they do it because not doing so would create some seriously bad press and singlehandedly kill the entire games division of their company.

Due to a complicated series of events my password has been changed on my Xbox Live profile and I can't take it off my hardrive. Knowing that the "new" Xboxs have a new kind of hardrive, I do this.

*Flips off Microsoft*

Also, yes, I did call Microsoft techsupport... 12 TIMES!

I just got a 360 and a few games off eBay to use it as a media server. Mine is newer so it won't do this, but it makes me think. This along with the PS3 problems, "Man, I guess PC gaming really is dying". These systems are bricking themselves. I love my pc, love it so much.
