OK, so i have passed my driving test now all i need to do is wait until i turn 17 and i can my wonderful car! :D.

This is aimed mostly at Australians and Western Australians particularly, due to difference in laws and crap...Anywho, the car i want to get is a 1991 TOYOTA SOARER SC400, its only got 95,000ks on the clock, it needs a new alternator and is currently unregistered. It is an import from the eastern states so there may not be anything wrong with it, the owner just hasn't gotten around to registering it yet, on the other hand there could be a lot of problems and it doesn't meet the requirements.

It says "Recently installed Immobiliser, new battery, windscreen wipers, air filter, spark plugs and leads. Stainless steel brake lines (over $300 value), and fuel filter ready to install." this makes me think the guy had intentions of getting it registered but the reason given was that the missus just fell pregnant so hes selling to buy a 4 door something or other...

Basically i have looked around and i can't find its original specs, so i can check ride height, tire width etc to make sure that it will make it through the pits to get registered, if anyone knows where i could get my hands on them that would be awesome.

And of course if anyone has had a good/bad experience with a similar sort of situation or advice of any kind it would be appreciated. :)

yeah, get em at 16 after written test, take your practical driving test at 16 and 6 months and get your Ps at 17 assuming you pass your hazard perception test.

I'd say get it checked first, I'm sure you can find a mechanic to do it. It will cost you money but it's better than buying a car that will fall apart after a month.

18 for P's in Victoria, though.

Not that I ever plan to drive.

When you get it insured (if you haven't already), go for an agreed value, not a market value.

Thats all I know really.

I'd be using a mechanic to check it's road- worthiness but you seem to have it under control otherwise.

Anyways, hi from Brisbane, Queensland. The way our news channels report other states' affairs, it's like Western Australia (and South Australia / Northern Territory to a lesser extent) doesn't exist.

i'd say get it checked out, if the guy is on the up and up about it he'll let you have someone else look it over

other than that it doesn't seem to bad for a car of that age
