...my uncle set me in his 1966 VW baja bug in the middle of an empty pasture. The thing had no gas pedal (just a throttle bar with a roller on top), and the clutch barely worked. It took me about 5 minutes of trial and error to get it off the line in first. I didn't manage to get it into second gear until my third time driving it. I think I was 13 at the time.

My first driving experience was fine, nothing remarkable other than me telling my dad to shut up so I can actually pay attention to the traffic. I do however hate driving in the city and much prefer that my Fiance handles that. (TBH she could probably be a decent wheelman or wheelwoman if we are being politically correct.)

Oddly I enjoy driving boats a lot more and I intend on someday getting a pilot's license for small planes.

well that depends if it was legal or not.

Legally (after I got my license, I was calm and collected, and had driven my greatest).

Illegally, my grandfather had an old junker car he let me drive. I took a turn to quickly, flipped the car, and completely wrecked it. Crawled out, took the plate, and walked home. Cops still never figured out who did it.

How was your first driving experience? Did you crash and burn or were you a pro?
Umm, I did fine I guess. I don't recall much of it, but I didn't crash my families minivan so I assume I did okay. My mom always told me: "You'll do fine. Don't worry about your driving if you're driving safely, worry about the other drivers.". It still holds to this day. God, people have no idea how to drive in California. I hate driving now.
