My introduction to anime was Sailor Moon. Back when I was young, it was on every weekday 6AM on my local FOX channel. Years later, I saw DBZ for the first time and I was hooked.

It most likely was Dragonball Z.
Could be Pokemon though...
Not sure which I saw first, but over here they were aired at about the same time.

OK, I am pretty sure it went like this:
1. Dragon Ball.
2. Zodiac Knights (sorry, don't remember the original name).
3. Pokemon.

And about Zodiac Knights. I still have this childish pride because I am a Sagitarius (Archer, if you wish) and the knight of the same sign was the only one to know about truth behind things.

Well the obvious Dragon ball Z and pokemon aside; My first taste of Japanese animation that made me think 'wow this is like nothing I've ever seen before' was the Cowboy Bebop movie.

We have a free to air station in Australia that plays a lot of foreign movies late at night and after watching a few Bebop came on and blew my Jazz loving mind.

I think it might have been Sailor Moon. I remember liking it a whole bunch because I was like 5 and didn't understand the concept of it being embarrassing enjoying things that aren't targeted at me.
After that was the regular stuff like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh, all of which I assumed were just regular cartoons in a weird style. It wasn't until I found out about the original Dragon Ball manga that I found out it was all from Japan.

The first thing I actually watched specifically for being an anime was Baccano, and that was only like a couple of years back.

Also I just remembered Medabots. That show was so cool.

When I was very little, I watched Laputa: Castle in the sky when it was on tv (yes it did aired on UK TV).
Sure I didn't know it was anime during that time but the scene were memorable (when that wrecked robot become activited also when the two kids encounted the moss covered robot aswell) to the point I was trying to seek it out during my teen (this was before broadband so I couldn't just look it up online).
Luckily I did find it again when I found it on DVD (before the Studio Ghibli collection).

First anime I ever watched was likely either Sailor Moon or DBZ. I remember coming home from elementary school, walking in through the front door at four o'clock on the dot, and tuning the tv to cartoon network just in time to catch the opening theme of Sailor Moon.

I would say Astroboy all the way back in the early 1980s along with Battleship Yamoto, Robotech and Speed Racer.

It was when id visit my grandma in france, there used to a kids variety show called "club dorothee" which was french equivalent of brit SMTV live (dunno what american equivalent would be, sorry), it showed anime like dragon ball, ranma 1/2, nicky larson (or city hunter for everyone else), knights of the zodiac, ulysses 31, Juliette je taime (juliette i love you? xD), Olive et Tom and so many more... Maybe its my perception but i got vibe anime was much bigger in france then it ever was in uk, would only see some anime on english tv years later in the form of pokemon.

So yeh that was my gateway and intro into anime.

Does The Moomins count? Pretty sure the TV show I watched was the the early 90s version by TV Tokyo that was re-run in the UK in the mid to late 90s.

Aside from that it's a clash between Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura (the Cardcaptors dubbed version sadly) and Pokemon.

I think.. Around when I was 18-ish, I watched an anime called Elfen Lied. I remember it as being pretty bloody and dark, and thankfully very light on the usual anime tropes. I'm not someone who regularly watches anime, having pretty much just watched Elfen Lied, Fullmetal Alchemist (Both original and Brotherhood) and some DBZ. Even those, I at times could barely get through. Never finished DBZ, and it was only the great story that kept me going with FMA: Brotherhood. All the "Aaaah!" and eye-wobbling and shit, I just get so tired of it. So, it's not because the stories are bad, but because the tropes of the genre are so incredibly annoying to me that I just can't be bothered.

This spoof explains pretty well why I don't watch a lot of anime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CLgpd241Aw

Mine? It's gotta be some tossup between Star Blazers, and Mazinkaizer, or something similar to it. The robot's definitely familiar. I was really really young, and had no idea it was part of something called "anime" though.

Anime for anime's sake? Probably Sailor Moon, and Ronin Warriors.

Japanese-co-productions with other countries, like Ox Tales and the 90's Moomin anime. Then Pokemon and Digimon. I had no idea anime was a thing until I watched My-HiME, but it was a pleasant surprise to discover that a lot of the animation I really liked came from the same place.

Probably Pokemon or The Dragonball series
But my introduction to 'proper' anime (That is, I knew it was anime and not just cartoons) would most likely be FLCL and then later Neon Genesis Evangelion back in late '10 and early '11

Not counting any of the typically cliche kids anime shows back in the day, back when I was relatively young (probably 10ish), my father had brought home a copy of Princess Mononoke. From the first few minutes of the movie I became incredibly engrossed in it, and to this day it's still probably one of my favorite movies.
