First Finished Kinect Commercials Pops Up on the Internet

You might know everything there is to know about Kinect [http://www.amazon.com/Kinect-Sensor-Adventures-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA298/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1287664838&sr=1-1-spell], but here's how Microsoft plans to introduce it to the general public.

Micorosft has lifted the lid on the first wave of commercials for its new motion controller Kinect, showing where at least some of those hundreds of millions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104479-Microsoft-Spending-400-Million-on-Kinect-Launch] of advertising dollars have gone.

The commercials are pretty much what you'd expect from a videogame controller aimed at a mass market: people of all ages having a lot of fun playing games, with the message that it's easy enough for anyone to play. Actual game footage is a little thin on the ground, but that's not that surprising, as the point seems to be getting people excited about the technology, rather than promoting specific games.

I'm far from being an advertising expert, but I have to say that the commercials look pretty good. "Easy and Fun" is rarely a bad message for a videogame system, and it's no accident that the majority of the people in the commercial are playing either directly with others, or with others watching. Accessible advertising like this, not to mention appearances on Oprah [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104572-Oprah-Gives-Away-Kinect-to-Everyone-in-Her-Audience], will go a long way to making Kinect successful.

Kinect launches on November 4th.

To be fair, it's an advertisement for the hardware and its technology, rather than the software that will go with it. But you have a point.

On topic: Looks like it is a pretty effective advertisement.

I also like how it says: "You don't know anything you don't already know. You don't need to do anything you don't already do."
They really ought to just advertise it as "If you can't be with the one you want (Wii)/ Love the one your with (X-Box)" I mean if you alreayd own the X-Box, the Kinect is $50 cheaper than the Wii (althought the Wii comes with 2 games.

I'm not going to buy Kinect, but I still don't want it to be a massive failure.
I couldn't stand getting teased by all the PS3 owners at my school if it ends up being a commercial flop.

If the only way you could move your character was by jumping around or moving more than just your thumbs, the heaviest of gamers would become thin....well, that or have a coronary.

I think by this point we need to acknowledge that the Kinect isn't intended for us: the Halo, Gears of War, Final Fantasy playing types. It's meant for families and is trying to get into a more casual market. And you know what? That's totally fine. If there's nothing on the Kinect that interests you that's probably because it wasn't intended to interest you in the fist place. It's not like Microsoft are going to suddenly put 90 percent of their time and effort into the Kinect before forcing us to buy it for some arbitrary reason; there will still be games made for people like us and there always will be.
not true imagine the possibilities for Dating Sim type games or novel type story games like Stein Gate or Chaos Head Noah, albeit the chance of anyone of those type of games getting ported to the west is slimmer then a piece of paper there is still hope.
On a side note your picture is hypnotizing, so much so i just can't look away.

They'll advertise it on Oprah? Ok, this will be massively more succesful than the Move, atleast base on the pick up rate. It's hardly fair, but those hundreds of millions of dollars pretty much mean success over Move.

Will they make a profit of it with that kind of advertisement push? Let's wait and see.

Have you ever seen an advertisement for anything, apart from Pro-biotic Yoghurts, that includes a Fat Person?

Haha has anyone seen the Kinect on XBox Live commercial? That one sucks.

All these perfect little families and what do they do with Kinect? They watch Top Gun. Hahahahahahaha.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. Some games will be better with a controller, everything open world for that matter. But others will lend themselves to motion controls better. Mario Party for the Wii and the Wario Ware were the best of the series imo. And who else thought Heavy Rain would have slipped into Move better than any other game out there?

The fact that Heavy Rain could easily be ported into Move (and I do use the term "easy" rather loosely) shows that these motion controls aren't just for the casual market and that you can have real story and depth involved with complete immersion.

I hope the Kinect doesn't flop. If it does, then we will have to wait another 10 years before someone tries to take more chances bringing us closer to a complete sci-fi VR getup.

"You don't have to do anything you don't already do." Yup, because I wave my arms around like that all the time.

It looks like it will definitely capture the "Old people who have too much money buying gifts for their grand-nieces" market.
