The first game I ever played online was *sigh* Socom 2.
And I hated it. I don't like military shooters and a friend talked me into it to keep in touch. That and, I wasn't a fan of taking anything online mainly because well, I'm not very good at competitive play. I just don't take the time to master a game and work out strategies and memorize maps so I mostly kept myself offline just to make sure I wouldn't ruin anyone else?s game. Of course that was until 2 years ago when my friend brought me out of my shell and heh, turns out I'm not that bad.

Warcraft 3. Lot and lots and lots of Warcraft 3. That had to be the only game me and my friend would play for ever. At least a year or 2.

World of Warcraft.

I was 9 years old and could raid better than most. A bit tricksy concealing my age for a few years, especially considering my guilds love of the word 'kinky'. Still, I pulled it off for 3 years before quitting.

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal

I think I got its online feature to work once then never touched it again. All told, it's multiplayer was rather fun, and I had a blast with my local friends just messing around on the multiplayer maps.

Majesty, that old fantasy sim. I played it back when I was like six or seven. I'm 18 now and I kept the discs and have installed them on every computer I have ever owned, just in case I go through nostalgia withdrawl. The online is still painful as I remember :D

Hrm... Online game? I dont think I have ever answered this one yet.

Im not really sure. I was a little late to PC gaming and online connectivity. First game other than minesweeper or solitaire I ever played on a PC would have been a toss up between the first age of empires or diablo in 1999. Neither of which I really had much interest in their online connectivity. However it did not take me long to get drawn into it and in that same year coming in contact with first Ultima online and ultimately Everquest at the very edge of Y2K, which in a sense was a personal apocalypse of free time considering it obliterated many of my other functions in life and managed to do so practically unabated till between 2002 and 2003

Socom 2 on the PS2. My memories of this were simply epic and until very recently I would still go on from time to time with a few hundred dedicated people were there too.

I guess that depends - does playing Duke Nukem 3D against my friend across the street over a 28.8k modem count?

If so, that. If not I dunno, probably online poker. Still not much of a multiplayer gamer :p

My first online game in general was Runescape.

My first online competitive game was probably Call of Duty: World at War.

Hello Sah, welcome to the Escapist.

My first online game was Neopets. It was there I learned how to write well for such a young age and also my first forum. I was involved in the forum roleplaying scene and enjoying the games the website offered. I had a Shoyru and he was adorable.

My second online experience was much more involved. It was Runescape, a game that was much more about the online gaming experience then a website like Neopets. Runescape was like the first World of Warcraft type game of its kind. A large 3D world RPG with dragons and hundreds of things to do and friends to make. I played it with many friends, but I left it for World of Warcraft when it got released. I only stayed on World of Warcraft till the 'Burning Crusade', which was the first expansion pack.

I tired of the "MMO" type of game, because I had enough assholes to deal with at school so why should I put up with them in my videogames? I didn't want to be told I was using the wrong skills or wrong weapon. I wanted to have fun and release steam.

Now I play League of Legends, an interesting game concept based on a mod for Warcraft 3. League of Legends is asshole city, but now that I am older I find myself not being bothered as much. I think the matchmaking system could be designed a little better. Like one playlist for casual gamers and another for assholes.

Warcraft 3 and the Halo series is most likely the most fun I had in an online game. The early days of Warcraft 3 before DOTA was a golden thing.

I honestly don't remember. The first ones I played frequently were SOCOM and Burnout 3.

Super Mario Bros Deluxe on Gameboy color. Ironic seeing as I later grew up to own a Playstation.
How is that ironic?

Sorry I think I accidentally misused that word.

My first online experience was with Uncharted 2.

There was one particular time when I was playing that I was put in a group of other players that played cooperatively. We worked as a unit to take out the opposing team on various match types and it was really great. It was truly a rare occasion and I am optimistic in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer.

First game online? Hmm,
May have been Rainbow Six on Gamespy arcade on dialup. Awesome playing on killhouse. Edit, may not be called killhouse, it was the training area.

I think it was Need for Speed Most Wanted. Not really much to talk about there. I got pretty good at it though. I absolutely dominated at NFS Carbon though.

After that I think it was either Saints Row or Halo 3. Everyone was playing Halo 3 back then. That was kind of unavoidable. Saints Row was really fun. I actually forgot about that. That game had team deathmatch among other modes which were taken out in the sequels. They were great.
