Well, assuming we're excluding kiddy learning games and board/card games, the first I can remember is Doom 2. Only 5 or 6 years old, so I ended up using cheats on a lot of the levels.

While we're on the topic, anyone else remember Odell Down Under?

First game was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES when I was about 3 and I most likely thought "this is too hard." I never passed the game to-date and I most likely ever will.

The first game I really played and enjoyed would be Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis...
Then, Mario Kart 64 (I love that game), after that, the next game I remember liking a lot is Legend of Mana for the PS1.

Haha! This thread is quite telling of how old people on here are.

The first game I remember playing properly was the original Gauntlet or Operation Wolf. Ah, fond memories...!!

Super Mario World. I got it as a wee lad, so excited to play. However, playing scared me, and dying made me scream, so for the most part, I got my mother to play it for me, as it was infinitely better on my nerves.

I know what you mean, my parents are always forcing me to play LittleBigPlanet when I want to be cleaning my room, cutting the grass or taking the garbage out. It's a pain in the fucking ass.

Well, i used to play my uncle's archaic Gameboy, the old grey one that could be used as cobblestones. I used to play such classics as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Rampart, Metroid, and other such fun games. However, I didn't really start into gaming until I was eight, in which every day after work, my mother, younger brother, and I would gather 'round the television to play the original NES Legend of Zelda. We memorized the entirety of the first quest, but never did make it through the 2nd one.

MechWarrior 2, It came with the first computer we ever got back in the 90s. Me, my Dad, and my brother stayed up all night playing it.

Reader Rabbit on the familys Apple II. This was the old school, 1986, version of "edutainment", akin to Leapfrog currently. You learn, to read in this case, by playing a game involving spelling, etc. Seems silly now, but I can recall being determined to get to the next level on that game. And also remember that green display color. Okay, now on a quest to finder retro Reader Rabbit iPhone app.
