Duck hunt on the NES.
I actually hooked up my NES recently just to see if it still worked and it did, I subsequently spent 3 hours playing duck hunt non-stop and fell right back in to my old habit of sitting so close too the tv I could put my gun on the screen.

Mortal Kombat 3 on PS I think I can vaguely remember my friends brother having just unlocked Classic sub zero and telling me to do the spine rip... as soon as fatality showed up I vowed to uphold MK's honor no matter what stupid decisions it made... that oath was shattered around the time MK Vs. DCU came out

1982, the Four Seasons Chinese restaurant in my childhood hometown. My mom gave me (age 5) a quarter and told me to go play Pac-Man while she settled the check with the proprietor. That Pac-Man machine was still sitting in that restaurant when I was in high school.

Odd answer, MS Paint was the first thing i did on a computer that was for fun, but we're talking actual games here so here we go.

"..." yeah, i don't know what it was called, it was a DOS game where you were a helicopter that could fire lines sideways (cannon) and drop big squares (bombs), can't remember what the enemies were but the aim was to rescue little stick men by landing on them carefully, land too hard and the helicopter disappears (explodes). The game started off easy enough but then you got to levels where you had to guide your helicopter into underground caverns to rescue people so it got quite tricky.

2nd game was Overkill, nuff said.

Mine was "Mixed-up Mother Goose", when I was about 4 and 5.

This was soon followed by "Treasure Mountain" and "Math Blaster"

The first combat game I ever played was Mechwarrior 2.

The first video game I ever played was the original Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. I don't remember the exact year but it was sometime in the mid 90's and I must have been six or seven years old.

I didn't really get into gaming until I played the original Doom in 1997 followed by Half-Life in 1999.

To this day I still own a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog, proudly displayed next to my other games on a shelf.

atari 2600 - maze craze, astroids, warlords, missle command, breakout.

we were on vacation in the states, stopped at department store - perhaps toys r us....not sure how old that chain is.

ataris 2600 were for sale - they didnt have great exposure in Canada yet, and were hard to get when you live in the sticks.

the parents bought the system, and 5 games. i remembering it cost a lot of money, 6 or 7 bills Canadian...and this was in 1980 dollars...think of inflation...way more expensive then any 360, ps3, etc.

we set it up in the hotel that night...best vacation ever for a 5 year old....needless to say, i blame my parents and that night for my on going addiction to video games.

My first was some kind of Atari. It has been so many years since I've played it though, so I don't remember much. I remember some kind of Kung Fu game where one of the bosses was an evil midget and some kind of Helicopter or tank game; oh yeah and Space Invaders.

I used to play on my uncle's ancient gray Gameboy, y'know, the one that you could combine with mortar to build walls? After that, my mom, brother, and I would get home at the end of the day and play the old NES Legend of Zelda for hours. Those were good times.
