I don't own a gun, as I can't in this country and I don't particularly want to.

That said, I do enjoy going down a rifle range with an air rifle every now and again. To practice for the zombie apocalypse, when there'll be guns lying around everywhere.

Then why bother commenting? At all?

If you have nothing of value to say other than to "imply" an insult, then don't say anything. Not a very hard thing to do.
this is a public forum where everyone is and should be allowed an opinion. if you dont want certain people replying prese restrain yourself to PMs and fakebook groups where you can ban whoeever you want.

I know Right. Silly gun owners spending lots of money and taking time out of the day for a repetitive hobby are so silly, unlike us gamers who spends lots of money and take time out of the day for a... oh. (nothing personal, I just couldn't resist, the joke was to easy)

OT: Don't have a gun yet but I plan to get one for the purpose of hunting (as I love venison and it seems like it would be satisfying to eat something you went out and worked hard for)So I know that my first gun will be a rifle that is rugged enough to handle the woods and a high enough caliber to hunt dear effectively, other than that I'm not really sure. Any suggestions?
I would suggest going out and shooting some friends rifles before you buy one. Get a taste for what kind of recoil and action you'd like.

Generally speaking, as far as hunting deer goes, anything larger then 5.56/.223 is usually good (Basically 'large' rounds. 5.56/.223, 5.7, 7.62×39 and similar sized rounds are intermediate rounds, and while suitable for hunting, their harder to kill with. Some US states actually outlaw their usage). I'd go for a .308/7.62x51 bolt action rifle myself.

Marlin, FNH (Expensive), Mossberg, Remington, and Savage all make fine firearms in this weapon type. As these are all major weapon distributors, which have multiple models and numerous modifications to these models, I can't give you an exact gun to look for. Go to a friendly gun shop and get a feel for some.

I would suggest against getting a semi-automatic weapon in this caliber. Many exist, and many people swear by them, but personally I think semi's should stick to intermediate rounds.

Or you could just go nuts.

He was asking why he was posting when he had nothing to add to the current discussion. He didn't even get preachy about guns, he just kind of snubbed his nose at all the gun owners.

Which isn't to say I think he should be denied a post in here. We just think he shouldn't post unless he actually had something to add, other then his disgust, which he didn't even bother to explain.

EDIT: Fixed a double negative that made me sound even more assholish then usual.

I haven't owned one because well I'm English and obtaining a gun is rather difficult here, for y'know safety reasons *cough*. But! I do love playing with them when I get the chance, as such I've got a marksman badge with an SA80, and a .22 rifle of some description. I've played around with a glock, but I've never been big into pistols, I prefer the rifles.

I'm not exactly comfortable with them being readily available, but you can bet that if they were ever "legal" over here, I'd buy some in a heart beat. As a feat of engineering, guns are beautiful, and some of them are gorgeous to look at, like the Barret 82A1 posted a little above. Not to mention the smell of gunpowder.

While the novelty of owning a gun and the potential empowerment it might bring me would be satisfying in the short term I can not justify such an investment in an item that would go mostly unused unless things become really, really shitty.

I would have to take time out of my day to do things with it to justify its purchase and spend more money doing so to perform a function that is, by its nature, 100% repetitive. It does not give me the image of a sound entertainment investment.

I am happy people with liking guns, I just hope they can like their guns over there.
To be fair, it's no worse than buying a console, or a TV or any items you buy purely for entertainment value. Beyond Food, a house and a car(even then, some people might not /need/ a car, and still if you do it only needs to run, a flashy car is just for your enjoyment) anything else you buy is just consumerism that you buy just to enjoy for the sake of it.

Beretta is Italian. Americans make proper guns, like the M1911.

Beretta do however, make beautiful shotguns. Not gonna argue about the 1911 though. If we were allowed handguns in the UK, I'd be all over that shit.

My first 2 guns are a Winchester O/U in 12 bore, a decent enough game gun. No idea what the model is, I think it says Select on it. Did have a picture but I deleted it from my photobucket :(
My Second gun was a Bettinsoli O/U Shotgun in 12 bore, 1/2 and 3/4 chokes. It's still a game gun, but I use it for clays. It's basically a poor man's Beretta but it does the job well enough, and I'm used to it.

My first gun is my Ruger 10/22 that my dad gave me to learn with and I will never get rid of that one. The first one I bought is my Remington 700 in .308 for hunting. I then bought my first pistol, a Glock 26, for concealed carry. I want to buy either a Sig P226 or a Hoyt Charger to learn how to bow hunt. I also have a Savage 12-gauge shotgun and a Remington 742 (won't ever shoot that one as it's a pile of crap.) Never saw the appeal of the 1911 but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Edit: Now that I know that I can buy ammo for it, I will be getting a K-31 to try to hunt with. That rifle is just amazing.

Well, yeah. It's not exactly commercially available elsewhere is it? =P
Its not, I just looked, I saw it and wanted one :p
Bullpup designs really haven't gotten much civilian traction, with the exceptions of the FNH PS-90 and FNH-2000. You might want to look into those if the SAR-21 interest you.

OT:

Well, my first gun was a 22 long rifle, pretty generic off the shelf plinking gun that my father gave me to learn to shoot targets, after that my first self bought pistol was a Springfield XDmatch .40 S&W

Then the first shotgun I bought was a Saiga 12 semi automatic shotgun

And just a few weeks ago I bought an AR15 that has been (Legally, but long story) modified to fire full auto before any idiotic govt bans go into effect!
Out of curiosity, why do you feel the need to own a full auto weapon?
Not that I'm some anti gun hippy, if I could own a gun in Britain I would, full auto just seems overkill haha

Fair point, but I've been growing quite tired very quickly of a growing portion of the once brilliant Escapist community who thinks their opinions are the shit and see themselves as intellectuals who must spread their opinions where they don't add anything (as per the one I quoted) and post several dozen threads asking our opinions on overdone issues such as sexism and racism when everybody knows almost everybody on this increasingly archaic forum is of a moderately liberal tendency. It's getting bloody old.

Just letting off steam here, take no notice of me. Don't ban me, oh nit-picky mods.

(Fuck, I've been meaning to say that for months.)

Rant over.

So I recently got my A and B class licence and got around to grabbing my first two rifles.

I got a fairly good deal and they don't seem to be lemons (although as a novice shooter I am sure some better marksmen will tell me otherwise)

I am curious to any shooters out there what were your first guns ? :) do you still have them? did you regret choosing that set up ?

I bought a Marlin xt .22 lr, blued barrel and synthetic stock. I also got a Remington 700 in .243 sps tactical with synthetic stock and stainless barrel, for that I bought an Elite 4-16 by 40 scope and put the free sabre 3-9 by 40 on the Marlin.

I only paid 1100 for both rifles brand new with bags, the 3-9 scope and trigger locks and i paid 560 for the better scope.

Probably a little too much for a first rifle but I do love them :) (I've only shot out to 200 meters so I am not really proficient just yet :))
Excellent choice on the Remington 700. I started out with a '81 Rem 700 in 30/06. Kicked the like a mule. But it could hold 2 inch groupings at 750m on calm days. Still the best rifle I've ever owned. Get a nice scope on that Remington and its all you'll ever need.
