So I knew that the 3DS was coming out but I didn't know that it was on demo display at Gamestop and other similar stores with Street Fighter 3D. I was really interested in the whole idea of the no-glasses 3D. Unfortunately, the whole thing is kinda shitty. Honestly, I like 3D tv, movies, games, etc IF IT IS DONE WELL. I previewed a 3D television a while ago and it wasn't 3D as we would think it would be. Everything just looks like it's made of cardboard and everything in the back looks like a backdrop.

Anyways back to the 3DS. Literally within 2 minutes I had a massive headache, was really nauseous, and had something similar to motion sickness. The screen isn't really that 3D, it just kinda skews the view a bit to make it look an inch deep. The characters and scene is really jagged and not smooth at all. I do like the little analog-esque stick thing though

Maybe if you don't get motion sickness you'd enjoy it, but I couldn't play it long enough to experience it.

Anyone else?

I agree with everything you have said. Poor 3D renditions. Headaches if you play too long. The only thing that I liked about it was the analog stick. When I demoed it, I actually turned off the 3D. I personally think its a waste of money. $230+ for a not so great feature. Its a shame to see Nintendo failing at handhelds now.

My girlfriend has one. If I eve use it I set the 3D to off.

It strains my eyes but I don't really care as it's an optional setting.

Didn't mind it myself, and I haven't had headaches from using them yet, although I have only played one for a few hours over at my mate's. Still, I'm not sure its made a great first impression on me - I wouldn't buy one. £200-odd for a DS with a funky gimmick and some sub-par games. I think I'll wait for it to come down in price and to get some good games first.

I agree. I have perfect vision and found playing the 3DS for more than 10 minutes painful (with 3D on). The effect takes getting used to, so I was patient for a bit, but then the sweet spot is so small that I kept losing it and feeling uncomfortable and dizzy. Also, I played it on a couch. I can't even imagine how shitty it's gonna be if you try to play it in a bus or train or anything that slightly moves. If you turn the 3D effect down, the graphics just look like the PSP with a smaller shittier screen. If the price goes down to about 150 and there are at least 10 games out that I'd really love to play, I'll consider it, but for now it's definitely a no.

The only thing I like about the 3DS is the analog stick to be honest. The 3D is pretty bad.

Way better than I thought, tbh.

SF4 was great, player perfectly, and the 3D effects were good enough for me to keep them on.

It's a handheld console, and it's completely region-locked.

Thanks for not making any goddamned sense, Nintendo.

Well I like it...
No nausea of headache for me. I own one.

I don't particularly move handhelds around a lot as I play to motion sickness or getting out of the position where you see 3D isn't really a problem. 3D worked well enough that whilst playing Rayman I felt like I had flies in my face.

I also think 3D TV works. Certainly made watching sharks on the nature channel more scary when I tried it at the Sony Centre.

3d is ok, I feel far more nausea playing Portal 2. 3D is just like any other form - a gimmick. Its cool for awhile but I'm yet to play a game on it thats really much better with it on, otherwise the 3DS is just a solid additition, remember, you can turn 3d off.

I've played a few, at the local gameshop, and then for a lot longer at the IGN section of the London Kapow Comicon... I think it's a quality piece of kit. If the 3d doesn't work, use the slider. It shouldn't give anyone headaches.

I hate 3d films with a passion (from the price rise, to the glasses, to the poor quality image), and even I think that the backlash towards the 3ds is just a combination of Nintendo gimmick hatred and 3d hatred. Face it, Nintendo managed to do first what no one else did-make a quality glasses free 3d system, that doesn't rely on it as a sole gimmick. They hit the jackpot.

Not sure if I'll buy one though...

I like the 3DS a lot more than I thought I would it's pretty cool. I think the 3D effects on SF4 looked great and I've never had any problems like headaches and feeling nauseous. I think people are suffering from headaches etc, because they have the 3D setting to high, it is adjustable I myself only usually have it maybe set halfway to 3 quarters high.

I played a friend's for a little while, and it wasn't that impressive. I'll probably get it just to get Ocarina of Time, though.

The 3D, as was expected, is a pointless gimmick that adds nothing important to the experience. At most, you turn it on and play around in a game for a bit, go "Okay, that's kinda cool I guess", then turn it off so you can play for real without all the strange 3D effects.

Really, too many people don't realize that you can just turn the 3D feature off. Nintendo really made a mistake calling it the 3DS and acting like 3D is the main selling point. It shouldn't be. They should be driving the stronger hardware and other new features like the circle pad and the added motion controls built in. Call it the DS 2, call it the DS Advance, whatever. But calling it 3DS was a mistake, because now too many people aren't willing to look past that they don't want 3D and see what else the system has to offer.
