So the german youtube channel gametube just released a look into hatred after they received a review code. Their no fans.

So as a translation of what is said about the game:
- Terrain Desctruction and Art Style looks kinda neat.
- Controls are wonky and don't work well
- The Game is too easy (You can heal through executions of incapacitated enemies and it's easy to find lonely enemies to incapacitate)
- The game is repetetive and doesn't offer much. It basically goes through several levels were you have to "clean" several subsections of these levels. Mostly just a "Kill x to proceed" as far as i understood it.

Edit: They concluded by saying that it may have some appeal because of the taboo-breaking and the controversy around it but they doubt anyone's going to look back at this game and say that it was worth the purchase.

To be honest: I am not surprised.

Well,i'm buying it anyways out of spite. And to surprise all of the pro-censorships fools out there, i am going to play the game, then Go outside and NOT murder everyone i see. That'll teach em.

Seriously, changed all the civilians to Zombies and the only place i'd be censored is Australia.

I'm absolutely shocked that a game that looked like a mediocre piece of crap is turning out to be a mediocre piece of crap.

Did they mention the sound design at all? From the footage I've seen, that's the only redeeming factor

And what exactly makes it a " peice of crap"? The fact you don't like it? I looks a lot better than what most indie devs are shoveling out these days. And this game is far from AAA.

I'd bet good money that people are going to make videos to name and shame this game for no reason other than because that's what we do in the gaming comunity. Find something we don't like and dogpile on it for x reason.

It's almost as if the game's primary reason for existing was to court controversy, rather than reflecting any real inspiration in terms of design or storytelling.

Oh well. It'll find its audience.

It looks alright. The art direction is great, the lack of color saturation in the environment mixed with the occasional colors of police sirens, blood, and explosions works pretty well. And the sound design from what I've heard so far is fantastic.

The gameplay itself is quite simplistic. And the AI of the crowds and the police seem pretty weak and stupid. But perhaps that's the point. The more I see of this game, the campier it seems. (Seriously. His dialogue makes me laugh out loud every time. It's great.)

As far as indie games go, it looks pretty impressive. But seems to sport basic gameplay that might not exceed much otherwise. And really, as far as the violence goes, it doesn't seem all that extreme to me.

It doesn't look that bad to me. I'll still give a shot myself.

Just be careful you don't cut yourself on that edge.

OT: Well, what did anyone expect? Every time, literally every single time, a game introduces itself to the world by way of a controversy about how violent it is, it turns out to just suck. Anyone remember Manhunt 2 and the AO vs M argument? Didn't matter, Manhunt 2 sucked. It's almost like these games do this just to artificially create controversy for free advertising....nah, that couldn't be it.

That'd be because there's a world of difference between murdering zombies for points and murdering innocent civilians for points. This whole idea of a "misanthropic genocide crusade" personally makes me feel uncomfortable, but despite that, I hope you find enjoyment when you play Hatred.

Geez, the way you react, you'd think I insulted a person instead of inanimate computer code. Maybe take it down a notch?

Was anyone really expecting it to be that good?

It just wanted a controversy, and it will make controversy-money, but other than that, I've played more interesting games for free in browsers, so I'm not gonna waste my money on it, and it's not really doing anything new.
To be honest, when that growly-macho trailer dropped, besides being mildly amused, I never really saw the `big thing` about Hatred.

Disliking attention seeking and intentionally provoking people, behaviour and works does not make you "pro-censorship". It just means you dislike people that get a kick out of being obnoxious.

"Look at me, so edgy - Going against 'the man'"

Hatred is made by those kinds of people and marketed for those kinds of people. Shallow, petty wannabe non-conformist who base the value of their entertainment on how much "the others" dislike it.

Pretty much this. It's as shallow as shallow can be.

Yet ten times as obnoxious because it's so full of itself over the notion that it's offensive and have a right to offend. The developers have a right to offend. Doesn't make them any less ***holes for doing so. Especially when it's done purposefully just to get publicity and money from people that think they're sticking it to 'the man' by supporting it.

Oh, that'll really show them.

Such a good reason to base your purchase on to - On how much it pisses someone else off that you buy it.

Yeah, that's exactly right. A statement off the Destructive Creations website says: "These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment - we wanted to create something against trends."

I personally find that to be a respectable statement, I just wish the end product was more than what looks to be a postal 1 remake.

I take issue when he says 'colorful'. I can hardly point to a modern game that is colorful.

Don't expect a clap on the back. As much as people throw out the word censorship like it's going out of style, buying this game does not equal you fighting for freedom of speech in any way. This game hasn't been banned in any country that I know of. Not even Australia. All that happened was that some store fronts decided that they didn't want to sell it, as is there right. If you want to talk about censorship, talk about Hotline Miami 2 being banned in Australia, or Stick of Truth being censored. This is a non-issue.

OT: A game that was riding on controversy turns out to be mediocre. I. Fucking. Called it.

About the only thing that got my interest in the whole mess was fanart recasting the 'me vs other girls' meme with 'Nott Important' as 'me', and Duke Nukem as 'other guys'.

Best response ever.

...Preach it Destructive Creations. Fuck colors man. I can't go anywhere in games without seeing red orange yellow green blue purple and pink. It makes me sick.

See, stuff like this is why I consider them trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. Granted the color scheme was one of the few things in this game that I thought was actually interesting. Everything in black and white but with a few exceptions. I've always been a sucker for that. Still that's made interesting because they used COLORS! In a minimalistic way true, but they still used colors. 1/10, not nearly edgy enough.

From day 1 this game looked like it belonged on the game section of newgrounds.
