Now that someone has mentioned it I really am hoping that this is not normal Shredder but this movie's version of Super Shredder.

I remember watching the second live action movie and being startled, surprised, and scared when Super Shredder came on the screen. Mostly because he was huge and I was like six years old. The fact that he had more blades probably added to it, but he wasn't covered from head to toe in them.

Oh well, those were simpler times. I guess kids now would need more to shock them.

How the hell is he supposed to move quickly and quietly like a true Ninja should? I always preferred the 1990s movie Shredder as he seemed cold, ruthless, and above all EFFICIENT. He wouldn't bother with a ridiculous set of armor like that because he'd have the skills to make such a thing worthless to him and thus marking his place as the prime threat.
Given that the Foot are no longer ninjas but just some rather generic paramilitary group they likely threw the whole ninja aspect of Shredder out the window as well. I mean we are talking the same production team that couldn't be bothered to cast an Asian actor as Shredder so why bother with the ninja thing?

This Shredder looks like the Silver Samurai crossed with the housewares section of frys.
Hah! I was just thinking something similar. How on Earth someone looked at this and said, "Yeah, okay, I guess that'll do," is beyond me. Awful, just freakin' awful.

So they pretty much forgo the ninja lord aspect of Shredder and they pretty made him into a large robot thing?

It looks like they are distancing themselves from that leaked script from a few years back.

In that script - written by Ehren Kruger and Alex Kurtzman - "Shredder" was a military general-type white guy named John Shradder and that was it. No Shredder suit, no martial arts. He was essentially just Thunderbolt Ross. He didn't have many direct interactions with the 'turtles' (they were creatures natively from Dimension X in that script) and at one point one of them quips "Shradder? More like SHREDDER!" Seriously.

That script was fucking awful.

You don't suppose they're going to reveal that the Shredder is actually an Utrom, like they did in the 2003 cartoon?

Regarding the armour itself, I think it's a little excessive and that it makes the Shredder look like a giant, but I can see where they were coming from designing it. It also looks like something the Shredder would wear for something especially nasty.

Certainly seems like this movie isn't really for "children" since the design looks very threatening.
I know children exist who happily watch things like Alien, but there are also children who would have nightmares for months after watching Alien.

I guess it confirms that this film and Michael Bay's projects is a reimagining of things children liked, but presented in a very BAD ARSE COOL way to help the now adult viewers not feel like they are watching the same IP as that belovéd 80s cartoon.

I'm awaiting the gritty bamsplosion live action Pokemon Movie franchise.

Well, this is what happens when you take a Japanese ninja master and turn him into a middle-aged white dude. You have to amp up the threat level to beyond ridiculous. Between this and the Turtle designs, it reeks of trying to hard. "Mikey's the surfer dude, right? Well, let's make sure everyone knows that by dressing him up as one! Donnie is the scientist/nerd? GIVE HIM A FUCKING PROTON PACK FULL OF SHIT HE WON'T USE IN THE FILM! Because god forbid we try nuance and characterization!"

The sad thing is that if they had toned it down like 2 stages it would have looked badass.

You know what, I'm kinda hoping they go all the way and have giant blades on his knees, legs and feet. His boots can even make it look like each toe is a blade with another even bigger blade coiming off of his heels. Then the blades on his shins extend whenever he kicks. And each of his fingers can also have blades, and when he hold things his hands can spin like a blender. And for good measure, lets have him fight while on fire.

11 isn't ridiculous enough, turn this up to 14.

I forgot that someone mentioned the razor cape

It's real.

I am disappointed about not having the crazy blade feet though :(

What are you talking about? We already got that years ago.

Too much colour to be gritty.
Too much fail to be acknowledged.

Why do I immediately think that everything that guy owns is made up of knives? I mean, seriously, look at him. Most of his costume is just a set of knives all tied and held together!

You realize I was joking, right?

OT: Shredder is a corrupt white business man? Apparently Michael bay has a thing for making business men villains.

I was aware. It's just my humour is too dry to work in text. It comes across as sincerity.
