My first ever online game was Day Of Defeat(circa HL1) on my PC, on DoD_Charlie (the D-Day map). It's a great game, I was a PS2 owner and my PC wasn't the best, but I saw this in a second hand shop bought it and it opened up the concept of online gaming for me. That must of been 2001 or 2002.

Im an Xbox 360 owner but I owe alot to that game for getting me into online games which eventually drove me to buy an Xbox 360 for it's connectivity in 2005
Ahh those happy days, it also lead me to those classics like Counter Strike, Halo and alot of Half Life mods because DoD had HL bundled with it.

First FPS would be Halo 2 on the Xbox.
First MMO is Astonia 3 about six years ago, it's an awesome 2D game but the community seems to be dying. I have it installed but I hardly play it.

Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast back in... uuuh...
2001, I think. It's kind of funny that a console was actually the first to offer me the horrors of the world wide web.

I remember how all that abbreviated internet-speak confused the crap out of me. It would have been more relatable in a fast-paced shooter such as Quake, but in the slow Action-Adventure Hack and Slash through hordes of monsters, it always left the impression of utter retardation.

I guess the whole experience shaped me regarding future encounters in the world wide web.
Trust nobody since everyone is either a cheater or a jerk.

Spread Needle +255 anyone?

Technically speaking I suppose my first online gaming experience was Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (incidentally quite an unsung gem of an RTS, in my opinion, if a bit outdone by a couple of others in similar times), but that was only with a quite select few friends. What I see as true online play nowadays is something with a matchmaking lobby, which would mean by first online game would be Halo 2.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault on a 56k. Was freakin' pimp. I especially loved it when the realism mod came out and it made all the shottie whores leave because they could get one shot from a bolt action finally.

Runescape and Unreal Tournament although I played Runescape more, mainly becuase it meant that I could meet up with friends and go questing (some of them didnt have UT as their parents thought it was "too violent".
