Have you also noticed how the gun is supposed to be at your eye level when you look down the sites, but when you do the gun just lines up, still at your hips in most games? It's like the camera is placed at your hips. We should only see the gun when you look through the sites because it's lifted up to your eyes, not when it's at your hips unless you look down slightly.

i agree on most parts but i got a solution for the "if i look down it takes me out of the game feeling cuz i dont see no legs"

just dont look down? :D
I'm not saying it completely unimmerses me, but with today's quad-core processors and gigs of ram, and with developers making graphics more and more detailed, I'm saying it's pretty much inexcusable that pretty much every game isn't doing that by now
crysis had that...a lil too much of that actually lol.. you could see every part of the body you'd expect to see which was awkward at points :D.

and i dont remember really but cod doesnt use the legs in 1st person view because when you try to climb stuff the legs just look out of place which is weird .

on the other hand played left 4 dead recently? at some point past version 1.0.1.8 or something the game added the legs part on the view it wasn't all that awesome :D but it was there.

and to be OT: its all out of laziness really a lot of game devs are just cutting edges of game production and development to save money and time which causes all the unnecessary patching later EA are experts on the matter
Crysis did this pretty well, except for one thing which it and (as far as I know) Halo 3 shares. The animations of your arm and gun doesn't correspond to the animations of your shadow arm and gun, but it does so with your legs and shadow of your legs. It is more noticable in Halo 3 than Crysis, however, as the shadow some times makes a completely different animation at a different time than you do.

I think that Mirror's Edge was great in the First-Person-View department. You really felt like you were Faith. Which can be good or ad, depending an who you are.

I did and it was awesome how they did that, but it still had the sway side to side running animation.

It's not something I get particularly hung up on, but I definitely noticed - and appreciated - the difference between Mirror's Edge and the traditional "lol you have no body" approach.

In Half-Life, taking a cue from something I read one day, I call him: Gordon "Arms Of Steel" Freeman. Because you can be falling for ridiculous heights and be reduced to giblets when you hit the ground, but if you catch a ladder, "Arms Of Steel" miraculously stops himself on the spot.
xDD brilliant

Your view point often seems far too low down in FPS's. Like in CoD, they say you're firing from your hip, but it looks more like it's from your shoulder. And in Bioshock, you're like a midget when compared to NPC's, even Ryan.

Does anybody remember a game called Breakdown? It came out around 2004 or so. It was an ambitious game [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d0cAiOz99U]. It was way different because you had to pick everything up instead automatically collecting them, like guns and ammo and key cards, it also has platforming too. It's kind of like Half Life meets Mirrors Edge
Wow, doesn't seem to bad of a game.
Except for it being: Motion sickness: The game.

Ya Far Cry 2 and Mirror's Edge both did that pretty well. Condemned is another when I thought did a good job especially Bloodshot, with the melee combat and finishing moves. Nothing is cooler than headbutting a degenerate hobo that was trying to kill you from the first person perspective. Killzone 2 also did a good job of adding a sense of weight and momentum to your character. The screen even moves a little bit lower when you sprint to simulate your character leaning forward.

I read an article in a magazine about Bioshock 2 and the developers were saying that they have put in alot of work into making the player feel like the character, they specifically said you will be able to see your legs in the game, should help to add to the already incredible immersion of the first game.

That makes me even more excited for that game now!

Chronicles of Riddick did good. That was an improvement, as well as the condemned games.

When I play borderlands with my Soldier class that can heal people by shooting them I wish that I could see my feet. That way I could shoot myself in the foot until I was healed back up. That would also make for a good party trick. Be like "Hey everyone I can't take it anymore!" Put your gun up to ur head and pull the trigger. Instead of your brains getting blown out it would heal you.

If you think about it, the placement of the gun is off aswell. The gun is always super glued to your jaw/eye socket area, so your not shooting from the hip ... it's more like shooting from the cheek.

I understand why they do it but it is off.

Imagine doing that with a crossbow that shoots flaming chainsaws.
